Title: Funny discussion with an Xbox owner
Post by: Crash on January 27, 2004, 02:21:30 PM
Normally I don't get dragged into a brag fest amongst fan-boys; but today I couldn't helpmyself.
My neighbour was telling us about his Xbox..cool. He asked me what I played, which I replied GameCube. Well, the slags started flying. "Xbox trounced GameCube last year"; to which I replied, "no - check your facts" and mentioned a couple of stats I heard on the forums. "Madden isn't available on Cube" - to which I replied "no -check any store. Various other dumbass statements like this came from him. Finally, what seemed to be the last desperate comment from him to prove the worth of Xbox "Xbox system and processor kicks the ass of anything else; especially GameCube" - my reply "If it is so great, why is Microsoft using ATI and IBM as the source of their next processors and chipset???" Sure, we know the answer is the falling out between MS and Nvidia - but he didn't know that.
Anyway - I wish people would just enjoy games and celebrate what each system has their own stand out attributes - versus trying to brainwash others why their system of choice sucks.

Yeah, you find those types anywhere you go. Pretty much all you have to do is show the facts, and they'll stay quiet (Or dumbfounded at the least.).I haven't run into any "Live" fanboys (Pun intended?), but I see the drivel on other forums and just ignore it. Its not worth the aggrevation. I enjoy my 'Cube, and that's all the assurance I need.

This reminds me of my xbox live slogan that I made up: "It's good to hate together". Ok, I probably wasn't the very first to think of that, but I haven't heard it before either.

Ya, but you get fanboys with every console. And Leaf fans. Hate them.

Fanboys suck. These kids who have never touched any non-nintendo system since the NES came out (and yes, they exist) get on my nerves. There has never been and will never be one system that is a clear winner over another. Gamecube has Mario but Xbox has Halo and Jet Set Radio Future and PS2 has the Tekken games and....well, you get the idea. There are half a dozen games on all three systems that I want.

The Xbox also has Shenmue 2, Gunvalkyrie, and Panzer Dragoon Orta, all games I'm very interested in checking out (in addition to Jet Set Radio future- JGR's one of my favorite games ever). Unfortunately, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle outsold all them combined, which proves that XBox owners are not interested in those types of games.

i would expect Sonic to outsell those other titles, though. it has by far the widest appeal of the ones you listed.

It's also a port of a 2 year old Dreamcast game not man people embraced in the first place. :\

As I've mentioned before, Sega did a really good job advertising Adventure 2: Battle, people knew it was out there- I wish Nintendo would take some notes. I don't agree that not that many embraced the Sonic port, you yourself said it outsold half a dozen games combined. Actraiser is completely right that Sonic has much wider appeal and I'm sure Sonic was recommended to many young gamers just because he used to be huge. But MouseClicker you're completely right- Nintendo is where most of Sega's fanbase lies and if Sega wants to sell games they should look in to making games for the Cube instead of Xbox.
SEGA, OPEN YOUR G-D EYES!!!

Panzer Dragoon got the hell advertised out of it. I'm surprised it didn't sell that well.
God that music in that commercial was awesome. I wish I had the name of the artist who did it and a cd of it.

Ah yes, Leaf fans. Sorry to get off topic but one thing that really bugs me is when the Leafs come to Vancouver and half of the audience arrives wearing Leaf jerseys and cheering the Leafs to victory over the Canucks (a victory which ended their undefeated at home record this season). So all these people leave Toronto because they like Vancouver better and then show allegiance to their old hometown when their team is in town? Talk about having your cake and eating it too. What bugs me is that no one cheers for the Canucks when they play in Toronto.
Anyway getting back on topic the thread starter's conversation with an Xbox fan reminds me of the time a friend of mine was playing Resident Evil for the Cube and his roommate thought that Code Veronica X for the PS2 looked just as good. We shut him up pretty soon after putting CV on for comparison.

it's not that everyone from toronto goes down to vancouver to cheer on the leafs. it's just that the team has such a large following that there are fans everywhere. except for maybe montreal (because it's relatively close), toronto fans from toronto don't tend to travel just to see a game. i guess in that sense the leafs are like the yankees of hockey... except the yankees actually win titles and the like
and AMac2002, judging from your comment about the leafs i assume you are from ottawa (just a guess), well i admit the sens are the most talented team in the nhl but (to avoid an argument) i'll just say i don;t like them... no sir not one bit.

"it's not that everyone from toronto goes down to vancouver to cheer on the leafs."
Well obviously not. These are people who are originally from Toronto and for whatever reason have moved to Vancouver. Seriously there is virtually no one who was born and raised in BC who likes the Maple Leafs (none I've ever met anyway) so it's not a universal appeal factor (at least not here). I will at least admit that Toronto has a pretty good team this year I just don't like seeing Vancouver residents cheering for a rival Canadian team especially when any other team comes to town GM Place is packed with like 90% Canucks fans.

ha, i find it absolutely hilarious how people that even OWN a videogame system can be so misinformed. I've had a disscussion with an xbox owner that is far worse than yours. I won't recreate the discussion, but he said, "You can get a Mario game for the Xbox" like it was an obvious thing. I didn't want to get angry with him, so I just pointed out that Mario is Nintendo's mascot, they would never give microsoft the rights to use him, to which he replied., "videogame companies don' have mascots, you idiot!"
Heh.

Not as bad, but a freshman sitting in front of me was talking about playing PC games on his xbox, straight out of the box, all the time... the sad part was that his friends were talking about how they had done the same thing.

I have a friend that refuses to buy a gamecube. We had a conversation one day about why he wouldn't. He couldn't articulate what it was he didn't like about the gamecube. Finally we just forgot about the whole thing. Ten minutes later he says "i know what it is I don't like about the gamecube. Everything seems to be so, I don't know, "kiddy." I tried to counter, but to my dissapointment, I think I kind of agreed with him. That's a thinker. I know it's a lame reason, but it is kind of true. I'm not here to argue. That's just what happened.

I remember a time I went out for lunch with him and another friend and he went on the whole time about why CS was better than Super Monkey Ball. Comparing the 2, saying stupid things like CS is better b/c you can shoot people, whereas Super Monkey Ball is for kids, and is stupid b/c it has monkeys in plastic balls.
Sad, but true.

but in CS you have RAD 12 year olds yelling out obnoxious things like BS HS HAX FAGZ OMG WTF IS DAT BS!, now which is really more kiddy :\
pro tip before you flame me, I like CS and play it regularly (check Internode -FF -AWP and Optus 32 player servers if you're in australia)

I don't know if I'd walk away, or punch the kid in the face..."Oh I'm sorry! But beating up people is better than talking to them!!!" Ugh...

Who cares? What kind of a gamer plays games for image anyway? To ignore a game for any superficial reason, be kiddy or whatever, is just plain ignorant. You should have slapped your friend right there for being too stupid to come up with a real reason he doesn't want a Gamecube.

That's kinda like how bicycles are better than sandwiches. I mean you eat a sandwich and it's gone forever but a bike lasts a long time and you can ride it and stuff.
While disliking a console because of image is pretty dumb there's still no point in trying to convince those people to buy one because they won't enjoy it. If you're so self-conscious that you can't play a game that looks like a cartoon then you just plain aren't going to enjoy owning a Gamecube. So consider them a lost cause because you can't force someone to like something even if their reasons for disliking it don't make any sense.

Bah, if CS is what adults play I'll stay kiddie forever. Most kiddy games don't give me the urge to perform random violent acts upon my friends.

It did not take me long to realise it was not worth my time to convince him. I mostly ignore him when it comes to gaming conversations.

If CS is for adults then failing english, having no judgement of anything, severe denial, and being under the age of 21, then people with all of these traits are now adults.
I'd rather be classified as kiddy, atleast baby's can't talk.

not all of CS is like that, i mean there is me and ... maybe a few others, i've got pretty good english ;___; also it's funny to watch annoying little kids get kicked by admins playing then come back with OMG UV GOT NO LIF UR FAT GO DYE and then get banned, many lol's all around.

I had a funny discussion with an xbox owner once, a friend of mine.
It wasn't about video games, though. I think it was about falling through the earth, and how fun it would be. Funny noises were involved.
Yeah, he likes Gamecube enough and I like Xbox enough that we get along rather well in that respect. He plays generally violent games, but with Wind Waker and stuff he's all like "Cool" and he plays monkeyball with us.

After a while kiddy doesn't exist to me anymore. I kinda forgot the term kiddy when playing multiple systems. Games are just fun. Kiddy is what people use when they are ignorant. Then they try the games to prove they aren't fun. Their mind is drowned with thinking the game will just suck. I like also systems but I will always be a nintendo boy.
