Title: Component Cable Question
Post by: NickNiteQ93 on January 27, 2004, 01:11:04 PM
What's up all?  I'm looking for some encouragement.  I'm thinking about buying a component cable set from Nintendo now that I've got the TV for it.  Do you think, if you have the cables, it was worth the $30 to buy?  I knew S-Video cables were expensive and they make my DVDs look a lot better, but how much better than S-Video is Component?  Is it a lot more difference?  I currently use the stereo AV inputs, so I know i'll a difference either way I go, but I want the best quality I can get for my money.  Thanks for whatever input you give.

Is it a High Definition TV or just one with Component connections?

If it is indeed an HDTV, go with the component connections.  If not, S-video usually prove to be just as good.

It's not HD compatable.  Just has component.  But from what I heard it's a slight bit better than S-V.  Which if it's only a slight margin, it's not going to be worth the extra $15 to buy a cable I won't be using to it's fullest capabilities for a while.  But I am starting a new job with 10 times the pay I have now (it's a legal job), so that could change, hence my delima.  sorry if I'm confusing

Exactly.

Of course, if you have the money and the desire, I'd go ahead and do it.

thanks man
i appreciate your help
I'll probably just wind up buying it in hopes that i can get an HDTV soon
plasma screen baby

also, I know this is'nt a PC place, but would hooking my PC to my TV via a component input improve the quality?  I hooked it up via the S-V input, and games and such look fine, but the type is barely disternable, even when bumped up to large fonts.  Any idea?

I went from S-Video to component video on a TV that doesn't support HD but has the component video inputs. I would have to say that the colors are much better, and if you have the cash you should get it. You never know you might getting  HDTV in the future. And knowing Nintendo they will use the same cable for there next system.

I just got my component cables a couple of weeks ago, and I'm very pleased with them.  I tried them out on both my 27" Sony as well as my Philips HDTV, and they look fantastic.  I'm especially pleased with games that are also in 16:9, such as F-Zero or Soul Caliber II.  When they're in 480p, it's just mind-blowing.  Heck, I was even blown away by Mario Party 4!

I have had a chance to try both S-vid and Component.  And personally I would say that the component cables are worth the extra investment.  I noticed that someone here said that text would not improve, but I would disagree with that.  Text definitely improves, with component cable you get no bleeding or text smeer.  I was also using the component cable on a normal, no HDTV, tv, looked superb.
