Title: New Nintendo Game Studio?
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on January 26, 2004, 07:06:49 PM
According to Cube-Europe (I don't know their reliability, so don't shoot the messenger:angel Nintendo has a new game studio consisting of former employees of the following game studio's:

1.) Capcom
2.) Namco
3.) Konami
4.) Square-Enix
5.) Sega

supposedely aroung 60 members strong and Nintendo exclusive.

Good news if true!!

Yeah, I heard this on another board earlier today. Apparently the ex-members have all been picked by Shiggy himself, so they've gotta be damn impressive.

that's HOT >_<
especially members from Sega, Sega, aslong as they are left alone to make new titles, it will be even hotter, this could be the best damn news i've heard all generation!

This is impressive. It wouldn't be the first time Cube-Europe reported something they were unsure of, and got lots of hits as a result, though.

A studio like this would be amazing. Nintendo needs a few original games that grab peoples' attention. Pikmin was great, but it hardly stood out. Even something of a stock standard genre with strong design principles would do a world of good (look at how Tales is going). Whatever it is, these are the people to do it.

It also says they are working on 2 games too.
Lets hope this is true, because it sounds great. But too good to be true...

*signs point to DS development*

Yes, I was going to mention that one, Bill.  It seems quite obvious, really, and this would explain all of the mentionings of popular companies like Konami joining up to develop software for the Nintendo DS.

The real question is who is the head of this team.  I mean the five greatest third parties in Japan are mentioned but that doesn't mean that much if these employees were only minor players in their companies.  A former Konami employee doesn't mean sh!t if all that guy worked on were Disney sports titles.  I want to know who the head of this team is and what he's worked on in the past because that wil give some indication of what this studio is capable of.

If they exist they better be working on some new stuff in genres Nintendo isn't too hot in.  If they're just making Mario spin-offs that EAD doesn't have time to do themselves then there's no point in forming this studio.  Every Nintendo studio should have their own style and work on their own unique type of games.

Not really, and Retro Studios is a pretty good counter-example that shows the people under the head are just as important.

And how many 1st-party branches make Mario spinoffs?  Zero, so I wouldn't worry about the development of new material...

"And how many 1st-party branches make Mario spinoffs?"

Well Intelligent Systems did work on Paper Mario and Mario Kart: Super Circuit but overall, yeah, you're right.  I forgot that most of the developers that do spin-offs are third parties like Hudson and Camelot.

Camelots a 3rd party?  I was under the impression they were 2nd?  Of course I'm probably wrong.  Who are Nintendo's  2nd partys?  Do you guys think this new studio will be a 1st or 2nd party?

well if Nintendo is forming the studio themselves, wouldn't you think it would be first party?

They claimed their sourced to be www.sectionN.com, I checked out that website,  (it's in spanish), and basically they say  'it has been confirmed.' From who it was confirmed, they don't say.  Also all they really say is that members fromthe 5 companies listed are forming the studio in Tokyo and that 2 game artworks will be ready at E3.

Actually, this news is pretty old...There was news of the dream team being made earlier last year...The only thing new is the news that they are working on 2 games, which isn't very surprising...

Camelot is a 3rd party that likes working with Nintendo(They worked on the first Hotshots Golf for PS1, for example)

It will most likley be games for either the GC or DS ...but dont hold your breath for news at E3 ...I am expecting more news at 2007

p.s - Why does everyone put down C-E , it really is a great site and this news is actually 2-3 days old.

Isn't this pretty much what happened with the making of Chrono Trigger?  All the greats coming together to form a "dream team."  We know that those results were pretty impressive.

This is great news.  The only developer they're missing is Silicon Knights, but they're in Canada and they just wouldn't seem to "fit in" with the rest of them.

Yeah I remember a while back that Nintendo was making a Tokyo branch, but they said they had to be taught the "Nintendo Way." Maybe now this team has their degree in Nintendology?

Hopefully after Prime 2 and whatever SK has in its sleeve (aside from Metal Gear, still no word on Too Human....), that these two can start cranking titles to so 'Cube owners don't suffer extensive gaming droughts.

Hey, so how far apart are Tokyo and Kyoto?

A games drought on GC is the last thing we need, so games releases spread throughout 2004 and 2005 would bea good idea.

"W-T-F ? Am I missing something in that article, or is that just spam?"

no- in the article it points out the distance between kyoto and tokyo:

from the article: "an ekiden race from Kyoto to Tokyo, over a distance of 508 km"

yeah i knew this before when NINTENDO first announced that they created a TOKYO studio long ago but the 2 games where news to me though.  i just hope that this TOKYO studio is a "hole filler" for them.  you know since NINTENDO dont have a solid traditional rpg on their console maybe they will fill it for them.  (its not fair that GAMEBOY got two great rpg franchises under its sleeve, POKEMON and GOLDEN SUN.)

hmmm, in an related matter, CANADA has SILICON KNIGHT, US has RETRO STUDIO, JAPAN has EAD and UK used to have RARE but im really hoping ZOONAMI will fill up the hole that RARE left.  maybe NINTENDO should open up a studio that is SPORT ORIENTED... better than LEFT FIELD and NST combine.
