Title: Has anyone heard anything or thinking anything about the new Zelda GBA?
Post by: Chode2234 on January 22, 2004, 10:49:50 AM
I head a while back, well a year I think about Capcom doing an original Zelda game for the GBA. Haven't heard anything since, has anyone heard anything? I am really looking foreward to this title as I can't wait for an awsome new zelda, as I love the Oracle games, LA, and LttP. Is anyone else excited by this? What do you guys think the story will be, the bad guy? Will it build off of WW or LttP, or more of a side story? I can't believe there isn't a good discussion on this game, so lets start it. What are you all thinking out there?

Look to E3...
And there's no discussion because the game could take place anywhere in the timeline...(I hope it takes place after the Oracle games)

I doubt that it would be a core story game, more likely a fleshing out side story. As a rule the core zelda games occur on the main console (NES, SNES, N64, GC) whereas most of the sidestories (with the exception of MM) happen on the handheld ones. LttP was originally on SNES and was only recently ported to GBA.

The Oracle games were no side-story...It was a whole new Link...

Well, a couple of months before this last years E3 Miyamoto spilled the beans in an interview that Capcom was working on a brand new GBA Zelda game. He said that they had been working on it since the summer of 2001 and that they had temporally stopped the games development to work on A Link to the Past/Four Swords. He also said that the game would be shown at E3 but that never happened. Sometime shortly after E3 I believe I read an interview with Miyamoto at ign.com in which he said that neither of the Zelda games shown at E3 were the GBA Zelda he had been talking about. So apparently this game is still in development and is supposed to be a classic single player game.
Honestly though I'm beginning to wonder if Miyamoto wasn't talking about Tetra's Trakers and/or Hyrule Adventure. I mean doesn't almost 3 years of development time seem a little excessive for a GBA game? Unless it's just supposed to be that freaking huge. Also we haven't heard a damn thing about it since then.

By side-story I meant an adventure that doesn't take place in (or above as in WW) Hyrule.

Actually whether it is a new Link or not depends on where you put the game in the time line. For instance a lot of people believe it is a direct sequel to A Link to the Past and a prequel to Link's Awakening meaning that it's the same Link in all 3 of those games.

Considering that Link in the Oracle games had never met Zelda before, I thought it was pretty obvious that he wasn't the Link from LttP...The Oracle games could be Link's Awakening prequel, maybe, but it's definitely not related to LttP...

Not that I meant to start another timeline debate....
But anyway, what would you guys like to see in another GBA game, any improvements from LttP, or anything you wouldn't want to see. I myself would love it to have Epona. Do you think Nintendo would put a beast of burden in a GBA game?

If it is a different timeline, I can't see Epona. But hey they put in the Bear, the Lizard, and the Bear in the Oracles. You never know...

Yeah, I wouldn't mind a horse, but I really don't know if it's all that necessary in a 2D Zelda. I mean all Ricki and the others did in the Oracle games was to help you get past certain obstacles. It's not like it made travel faster which was the whole point of Epona in Ocarina of Time. On the other hand I definitely don't want to see Link riding anymore boxing kangaroos, nice dodongos, or big dumb bears with tiny wings. I mean this the Zelda series Capcom. Please treat it with some more respect and seriousness next time.
Overall I'm not the biggest fan of the Capcom Zeldas so I would prefer that they attempt to make A Link to the Past 2. I mean that game play wise not story wise by the way.

Haven't played Link's Awakening? The Oracle games took their inspiration from it...(LA is my 3rd favorite game of all-time, just behind LttP and Wind Waker)

Yeah, I've played LA and enjoyed but it's not really one of my favorites. Of course it had talking animals and crap like that too, so if Capcom is making a new GBA Zelda then they'll probably take their inspiration from ALttP for it.

They can't really go wrong if they try to make it like LttP but I would like to see a companion, preferably a non-stupid one. A horse wouldn't work on 2D and the Oracle ones were silly. Again I present my case for a valoo-type dragon

I guess I really just want a new 2d adventure. A little off topic, but do you think that 4 swords will be fun if it mostly just yourself?

Ricky > Dimitri > Moosh > "Valoo-type dragon"
If you only play 4 Swords + by yourself, then you are missing out on a good percentage of the game, but I don't doubt that Hyrule Adventure will be large enough to warrant purchase(for only 1 player play)...

Eh, Link's Awakening is a sidestory to LttP, right, in the same way that MM was a side story to OoT? So how could the Oracles be a prequel to LA but not be related to LttP?

LttP - Meeting Zelda for the first time Oracles - Meeting Zelda for the first time LA - Memories of Zelda(meaning he had met her before)
LA can only be related to one of the two, not to both...

Right, and I was almost certain it was related to LttP, not the Oracles, meaning the Oracles presented an entirely new Link.

No one really knows where LA goes...It could fit after LttP, the Oracle games, or even AoL(least likely)...
I, myself, am leaning more towards it being after the Oracle games, because the end of the linked game shows Link riding off on a boat...

That doesn't mean much- it could imply it's after Wind Waker. Ocarina of Time didn't end with Link riding off on a horse.

It was supposed to...
Before being changed, OoT was originally going to end with Link and Malon riding off into the sunset on Epona...
But as I said, it's all up for debate...I just wish Ninty would just spill what the timeline was... ;___;

I don't think Nintendo really cares about the timeline- personally, I think it's all a coincidence that all the games fit together like they do.

Honestly, what major difference does it make whether the games fit together, or not? As long as each individual story is excellent, we shouldn't worry.

At first Ninty didnt care about the timeline, Zelda was just a game and so was Mario. It wasn't untill OoT-MM that a timeline came into it.

I beg to differ...The timeline began when AoL was made(a direct sequel to LoZ)...
