Post by: KDR_11k on January 19, 2004, 08:06:56 AM
Article

It makes valid points, but just look at that last paragraph...

Heh.  That is pretty bad.  Almost as bad as when he said that Sega still made consoles.

Where does this guy get his information? The Nintendo Official Website?

Bracing for 2006
He noted that when the next round of game console innovation hits in 2006, hard-core players who prefer first-person-player games like Nintendo's "Final Fantasy" series -- which takes 100 hours to complete -- could be spending even more time in front of their game screens. And TV could take even more of a hit.

Eh, they're kidding, right?

She apparently thinks that gaming systems dont need a TV to run. I am writing a complaint to the writer of that article and it would be great if you guys would do the same. The address is:

I just think it is stupid that Miss Cuneo thinks that
a) Ninendo made final fantasy
b) Sega makes consoles
c) Gaming is worse than TV

I have had a (very prompt) reply from Miss Cuneo:

Hey, Jale, Thanks very much for your note. For one, you've hit it. I'm new to
covering this beat. Thanks for the help.
Also, I don't think the story was anti-gaming. On the contrary, it discussed
how much more active game players are than TV viewers, and how marketers need to
figure out a better way to measure the influence of games.
Best,
Alice Z. Cuneo

Maybe she edited the article because of Jales's e-mail. The last paragraph is different than what Mouse_clicker posted here.

I'm sure Jale's email was but one of many Miss Cuneo got in regards to her article. Here's the edited last paragraph:

All that's been changed is the removal of "Nintendo's Final Fantasy"- most first person games, being shooters, generally last no more than 10 hours given the limited gameplay variation. The longest first person game I've ever played is Metroid Prime, which took me about 20 hours- still a far cry from 100.

Maybe if TV didn't suck so much these days...

I think she means the whole series. Its still an improvement.

Nintendo's Final Fantasy? Yeah, that just disreputes yet another poorly written article. Funny stuff though. Ha ha ha. They should have called it Sony's Final Fantasy. They're ones that practically own the series. And another thing. TV doesn't have flash cartoons. Those are the best. They allow what would typically be a nobody who could never make a movie or TV show to create their own cartoon. (self–proclaimed Homestar Runner fanatic). There's only one TV show I go out of my way to watch. Monk. It's my favorite.

Actually, Home Movies on Cartoon Network is animated in Flash, which is why Cartoon Network could afford to revive the series after UPN cancelled it.

Flash movies? Yay, Happy Tree Friends!
