Title: Midway Arcade Treasures - where is it?
Post by: Ian Sane on January 02, 2004, 07:32:56 AM
Has anybody been able to find a copy of Midway Arcade Treasures? I've looked around every store in my area since it came out and I haven't been able to find it anywhere except online. Since shipping costs kind of kill the whole point of it being a "budget title" I would prefer to find it in a physical store. Most stores have it in their system but claim it's sold out. EB said they were sold out after I had been at the store the day before when they said they hadn't gotten it in yet. So either they received like only one copy or they're full of it.
Arcade treasure is right. It's like I need a f*cking map to find this game.

I happened to get the Xbox one, I didn't see a GameCube one around stores here either. I'd easily recommend it to anybody though, it's awesome.

"i haven't seen it in stores, no, but you can get it at bestbuy.com for $19.99 w/ free shipping."
No I can't because I'm Canadian. D'oh! If only I lived in Guam. Then I'd be sitting pretty.

I bought it at EB games, but they didnt have it on their meager GC shelfs, they only had it behind the counter, so i had to ask if they had it. Brilliant work from those EB fools.

Yes it's definately worth it, especially if you're into old school gaming. Gauntlet, Robotron 2084, Defender, Smash TV and Joust are gaming classics and there are many more games you'll find yourself playing for hours like Root Beer Tapper, Klax and Paperboy. There is lots of fun to be had in this package. I got my copy at Best Buy in Canada.

I just got it. After all this searching it figures that the day I bring it up on the forum is the day I find it. I got it at EB and apparently got not only the last copy at the store but apparently the ONLY copy they've ever received. One copy for each store. Next thing you know Midway will drop support because of low Cube sales. *Sigh*
I haven't had a chance to play all the games yet but so far I like what I've played and the emulation seems to be pretty good. One major complaint though is that the menus can ONLY be navigated with the d-pad. Whose moronic decision was that one?

I got it at Price Costco for $17.98, and I just saw it on the shelf at EB yesterday, in my opinion it gets old fast, unless you have someone to play the games with all the time. so really the single player wasn't worth it to me, which is strange because all those games were my favorites back in the day... sigh

I agree. I can only play each game once before i'm trying another. I did have a nice Gauntlet game going with my girlfriend, got through 43 levels before quiting. Its not quite as nerve racking when you dont have to depend on quarters for health, but good nonetheless.

Still waiting for a PAL release. ;___; I ask EB, they claim it doesn't exist, then say when it's comes out, it'll only be on PlayStation 2. Brilliant work! =O

Just got done reading the PGC review and had to add my 2cents. Midway totaly ruined Rampart with horrid controls, if one of the games your buying this disc for is Rampart you will be dissapointed. For those who haven't had the pleasure of playing the GC version let me explain: You can use one of two ways to control your cursor, the D pad or the analog stick. The Dpad is unresponsive, the cursor doesn't move a space every time you push a direction on it making it useless. In stark contrast the analog stick is too sensitive so you'll often find yourself lightly flicking it back & forth trying to get the cursor on a specific space. So in closing Midway made a great game virually unplayable with ridiculously frustratingly difficult controls that one can't get used to, believe me I've tried

I saw this at Best Buy today, and abou 10 copies of it at WalMart in the budget games rack yesterday. There seems to be plenty of copies in Iowa.

The WalMart I work at got in between 4 and 12 copies around December 23rd... I really don't remember exactly how many copies there were of it, but I'm certain they were all gone before Christmas.

It's worth it just for Smash TV alone.

"Big money, big prizes, IIIII love it!" Hey Robotron 2084 was from Willems<sp?) and Smash TV's from Willems &/or Midway? What about Total Carnage, just wondering because the phrase ('total carnage") is used by the announcer in STV?.
EDIT:once again I hit reply before I was done, actually I hadn't typed anything yet. this week hasn't been too good {I'm sick} / _ \

yea ok Midway owns all three titles, and it's Williams you stupid ass! What to add so this post isn't a total waste of time. . . speaking of Robotron: 2084 what of Berzerk? I know it's not from Midway, it's by Stern. I know this because I've tried to find out what happend to this game and've ran across some info. See, I've been itchen` for some evil smiley face action. I can still remember as a child witnessing the horror of that unstopable smiley, good times. But since I've never heard of Stern before my web searching I'm assuming they don't have enough money to publish and are too stubborn to let someone else do it, more likely they don't exist any moreI want my Berzerk!

You'll have to turn to MAME or an Atari 2600 emulator for some Bezerk lovin'. Bezerk scared the crap out of me as a wee monkey. Hit the walls, "BBBBBUUUUUZZZZZZZTTTT", spend too long trying to kill the robots.. HAPPY FACE-O-DOOM. "BBBBBUUUUUZZZZZZT"

Midway has owned Williams for some time now.
But he's right, Robotron, Sinistar, Defender, Joust, Bubbles, etc. were all on the old "Williams Arcade Classics" disc. I guess Midway wasn't convinced that re-releasing the same old disc on yet another generation would cut it (unlike Namco which has given us the same damned 4 game museum since 16-bit days).

Berzerk! Is one of my favorite games. That happy smiley face (a.k.a. Evil Otto
Speaking of Midway Arcade treasures, anyone try it with an X-arcade stick? I have one for my PC, and I got a free Gamecube adapter with it. Could be lots of fun
BS.

Yes, I've been using an Arcade stick with mine. Works great with some games, but there are a few games that need either analog (paperboy, some of the racing sims) or multiple sticks (Robotron, SmashTV).
