Title: When is the "Only For" not only for?
Post by: Arbok on December 30, 2003, 06:56:07 AM
Ok, just got to wondering. Have there ever been any games released on a Nintendo system with the "Only For" logo on them that were then ported to another system, one from the same generation, under the same title?

The only game I can think of is "Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee" which was ported to the Xbox, and I was just wondering if there are anymore? Just for curiosities sake.

I'm not quite sure about any more of those, but I know that there are a few "Only on XBox" games that were released on Nintendo's console.  Can't quite remember any specific names, but I know that there are some.

It was "only for xbox" for a limited time period.  Splinter Cell is probably the most famous example, it was released on Xbox first, and due to the agreements with Microsoft, the GC and PS2 releases were pushed back.

Right, but I was talking about JUST Nintendo, I realize that there are several examples for where the Xbox "only for" didn't stay true, I was just wondering if "Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee" is infact the only Nintendo game where this happend.

Hmm...nope, I think that's it.  All of the desireable releases that the 'Cube has are either multiplatform from the start (Prince of Persia), on other consoles originally (Splinter Cell), or are going to stay exclusive (Mario, Zelda, Metroid).  Godzilla wasn't even that good a game...I'm surprised that they wanted to release it on the XBox after the lackluster GCN version sales.

There is also Capcom vs. SNK 2: EO, which was later ported to XBOX.

Dark Summit has the "only for" on the Gamecube, when it is also on the Xbox and PS2.

If I'm not mistaken, weren't there early copies of SSX: Tricky that had the "Only For" label? And wasn't it originally going to be called SSX: Special Edition? (I seem to recal an article from IGN stating that the BIG team was suping it up and making only for the cube, but of course that later changed before release).

I don't remember seeing an 'Only For' triangle on either Godzilla or Capcom VS SNK 2. =/
Did Sega Soccer Slam have it? That was exclusive for a for months, then BAM, ported.

Sega Soccer Slam doesn't have it.

For some reason the "only for" label is missing from my copies of Star Wars Rogue Leader, RE, RE0, Sonic Mega Collection... but they're exclusive right? RIGHT?! *shakes fist at some old lady*

Sega Soccer Slam did have it, I have a copy that has the logo on it. Perhaps it's been edited out since.

Oh, yeah it's probably been edited out then, because my copy doesn't have it and i just got it a few months back.

My Sega Soccer Slam doesn't have the "Only For" and I got it a month after release, also my Sonic Mega Collection doesn't have the "Only For" as well.

Possibly beacuse Sega wanted to leave the option to port it if they choose? Anyway, I didn't know the "Only For" has been wrong so often this generation... :-/

Quite a lot of exclusive titles don't have "only for" written on them. Lost Kingdoms is another example (or was that released on PS2?).

Nope, Lost Kingdoms/II are exclusive to GameCube.
I have a question! =o
My copy of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle doesn't have it (PAL), but I've seen some scans where it has both the Only For triangle, and the silly European Only For.. 'blob'. Does anybody have the only for on their copy?

My copy of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, bought on the month it was released here in the US, does have the "Only For" logo on it.

Both Soccer Slam and Godzilla had "Only for" logos, but only with limited quantities (once the publisher realized the mistake, they were recalled apparently).

I own a Soccer Slam with the "Only for" logo, and I've seen several Godzilla's with the "Only for" immediately after release, but of course none now.

And yes, there were several Xbox games that went from "Only on Xbox" to "now on GCN":

Cel Damage
Hunter: The Reckoning
Dead to Rights (VERY few copies with the "Only on Xbox")
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
Outlaw Golf

There are probably more I've forgotten.

BTW, why is it "GCN"? NGC would make at least some sense, but GCN?

NeoGeo [Pocket] Color. I don't think there would have been any confusion over a handheld that bombed, but.

yup, that's the official abbreviation from Nintendo's corporate site.

Either GCN for short, or Nintendo GAMECUBE.

Nintendo must always be written before "GAMECUBE", and GAMECUBE must always be in all caps.

Also the GCN logo can only be shown with the "Nintendo GAMECUBE" moniker at the bottom, else you could be sued.

Interesting, eh?

I'm pretty sure that Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions had the 'only for' thingy when it was on Xbox but it was ported to Gamecube.
