Title: how many gamecubes sold if?
Post by: joeamis on December 21, 2003, 05:59:00 PM
i was wondering if the Xbox never came out and everyone who had bought an Xbox, bought a GC instead, how many GC's would have been sold right now?
please provide world wide sales numbers for XB and GC, and tally it in your response, thanks.
Nintendo would have the (successful) system with the best graphics for the 4th generation in a row, if this was the case =)

alright well here is worldwide sales figures as of November 1, 2003 PlayStation 2 - 51,200,000 GameCube - 9,550,000 Xbox - 9,400,000
now if gc had all the xb sales it would be: 18,950,000 then tack on like an additional 1.6 million for xb and gc sales combined for the month of november (doing this by memory, so its not very accurate) and our final tally is about:
(did last months almost a million GC sold only stand for USA sales or worldwide?) 20,550,000

I imagine most of the Xbox owners would have gone for a PS2 over a Cube since the PS2 provides a more similar experience. However in terms of market share Gamecube would have had a bigger percentage chunk of the whole market which would have resulted in more third party support and thus I assume more consoles sold. I imagine most of the big Xbox games would be PC exclusive though Sega's Xbox games could have appeared anywhere. I wonder if many of the "on every console but Gamecube" games would have been on the Cube or become PS2 exclusive.
Doesn't matter anyway because the Xbox does exist so there's no real point to this.

Well then I guess I'm in the minority.

I didn't say if xbox didn't exist what other system would be bought.
i said if every xbox owner had bought a gc instead, hypothetically.
and there is a point, to see how many GC's would be sold if this hypothetical proposition happened......
