Title: Thought about online...
Post by: joshnickerson on December 20, 2003, 10:24:03 AM
I've been reading a bit about EA's struggle with The Sims Online, in which they are dealing with lots of people performing illicit acts for real money and the like, and it hit me. That might be the reason Nintendo is reluctant to get into the Online game, because of all the creeps and weirdos out there. I mean, I wouldn't want to be playing Pokemon Online or Animal Crossing Online and be constantly barraged by people wanting to sell me sex or something worse. I mean, it would be possible for Nintendo to monitor what goes down online, but let's face it, they couldn't catch everything.
Anyway, your thoughts?

Sounds like a crock to me.

I play alot of online games and the biggest problem is usualy some stupid 12 year old that likes to cuss and ruin a perfectly fun game. And thats easy to get rid of, just by adding a language filter or a kick poll.
In games where those things arent possible the makers just add mods and a way to report ***hole users that disrupt gameplay. They then ban the users.

So uh, ***holes arent a huge problem in online games.
The real reason nintendo wont make online games is because they want all games to be easy to just pick up and play, they are against depth for some reason.

Yes but a language filter cant detect everything, unless someone filters out every single different spelling and abbreviation of every single offensive word, and it doesnt stop people from saying things like ***hole, which is equally as annoying as swearing. And kick polls dont always work because there could be 5 idiots and 1 sane person, and the idiots vote to kick the sane person out.

The following is a true example of something going on in TSO

A 14 year old girl is running a cyber whore house and converting the simolians into real money using things like ebay and the like.

I don't think a language filter is gonna stop that.

Hmm, I dont much care. The sims sucks anyways.

Alls I knows is other online games seem to work just fine. A couple of ass monkeys arent going to stop that.

MMORPGs usualy ban people for selling ingame money, and players hate cheaters so theyll report your ass.
