Title: Nintendo Ripping Off Ngage Commercial
Post by: Majexto on December 19, 2003, 04:04:51 AM
Wow I just typed this whole thing and accidently hit back on my mouse.. opps.. So anyway Ill restart. Im not bashing Nintendo in any way so dont flame me, flip out on me etc. If any of you have ever seen an Ngage commercial youve seen the little heart monitor rhythm they use at the end of the commercial almost to signify the two ngages being connected. I was watching the new NFS commercial that was directed directly to nintendo. So the whole time the same heart monitor rhythm pattern, same color, same size, etc was following the cars and what not the entire time on the tv then it like darts down the middle of the screen and the nintendo gamecube symbol appears. I was just thinking whoa, I had first thought it was a Ngage commercial when it started. It seems like Nintendo attempted to rip Ngage's signature whatever. But why? Its obvious that nintendo is being more successfull. Anyone else have any opinions or views on this?

Sorry, but the Nintendo commercials featuring the heart monitor started long before the N-Gage commercials started.
Nintendo started it with F-Zero GX, Rebel Strike and a few others that i forget, back in July or August. So looks like Nokia copied Nintendo.

Calm down guy. It is Nokia ripping off Nintendo's ads here. Nintendo was doing those heart monitor ads back in the middle of the year with teasers for F-Zero GX, Rebel Strike, and a couple others. They just recently started using them again in about November for Sonic Heroes, Tony Hawk Underground, Prince of Persia, and Viewtiful Joe. Trust me on this, I recorded them, I know. Check the media blitz thread link in my sig.

Oh really? My bad sorry. I havnt really paid attention to any video game commercials besides PC until about now. If I was Nintendo id stop using it though because it kind of gives people like me the idea its an ngage commercial until the end. Nintendo doesnt look too good when associated with the ngage.
BTW - to the guy that just posted what makes you think im not calm? I was just making a statement. Why does everyone think your not calm when making statements online

Geez, Nokia will do anything to attack Nintendo. Now they're trying to associate Nintendo with their terrible N-Gage product? Ugh, go attack someone else, Nokia. "Always challenging the future", righto, go challenge Iwata to an arm wrestle then. Oh wait. Game Over N-Gage. Who's next?

Anyone seen that PS2 commercial where the people start jumping around and fighting like charactors in games. I thought for sure that was a Nintendo commercial in the vein of the SMA4 ones where everyone was boudning around the city like Mario. Then they have that slogan that's real similar to "Who are you" at the end, but just a bit different. It seems like the holiday tactic is to make ocmmercials similar to other peoples right now, and hope that you can confuse the consumer enough that they don't know who's who.
I ain't noticed the heartbeat in the N-Gage commercials, but Nintendo's been using that since they had the guy getting surgery done, about a year now I think. I like the X-Box, "It's good to play together" slogan. At least its different, and it makes me wonder just how fun online gaming may be. I'm almost tempted to shell out the $50 a month for broadband,. but I guess then I'd have to put up another $180 for an XBox, and another couple hundred to get some games worth playing online. And then I'd get my ass kicked by some 14 year old who plays way to much. Meh. It's not worth it.

Know what I noticed about Xbox commercials? They are very apt at not revealing the fact that their system sucks. In one commercial for the Xbox itself, when they discuss the price they have the announcer say: "And only for what?!" They can't even say the price. Also, Project Gotham Racing 2 commercial has a quote saying "Best racing game on any console" or something along those lines. Source? Official Xbox magazine. That's pathetic. Their slogan isn't bad, but they imply that online gaming is all that's good about the system. And heck, probably is.

I didn't want to start a new thread on advertising so I thought I'd throw it in here.
When I saw Lord of the Rings: Return of the King on Wednesday, there was an advertisement for FF:CC. I thought it was awesome: not only did the game look incredible, but they are advertising it a good two months prior to release.

XBOX had a really really good commercial, you know the halo character? Sorry not an xbox fan here so I dont know the name of him, there were a bunch of him and they were running on sscreen one at a time then stacking to make like a pyarmid and the whole time you can see the halo fps view with a gun then they all get fragged at once and killed and it says "happy halodays" somthing like that. You have to see it, it was really good. It was all in graphics from the game.

If it really was, it'd be running at 12fps.

Oh my god, that's one of the funniest things I've ever read!!
Seriously, though I hate XBox commercials- I may not like the hoarse whispering at the end of Gamecube commercials, but that "power of X" crap is even worse than Sony's "Live in your world, play in ours".

Thanks
You just aren't too fond of video game slogans, now are you mouse clicker? Actually, I don't mind the GC or PS2 things you mentioned, but the whole X thing they're doing with Xbox is just cheap. . . it's crap they thought up because they have no one creative enough to think of anything actually good.

Not really, Hostile- it becomes more which one I don't like the least rather than which one I like the most. I do like the rest of Nintendo's commercials, though, and most of Sony's.

Heh, I just think it's funny that the latest Xbox commercials, especially the Ghoulies one, are geared towards a younger audience ... one that Microsoft previously wanted nothing to do with, since they were only about "serious gamers"... Who's kiddie now?

The kids in that commercial looked scared to me. What were they scared of...
...LAG??
...gameplay??
...kid-oriented marketing??

The heartbeat bit at the end of those Nokia ads is the only good part. >_> Thirty seconds of an empty street followed by "THIS IS WHERE I PICKED ME BUM" isn't very good, Nokia. Sorry.

Gaaah, whenever I read those discussions about advertising I feel left out. Just because I don't watch TV...

The Red versus Blue series is hilarious. I think one of the best mocks of a video game ever. I've got all 19 episodes, and the other trailers.

Heh. I started watching Red vs Blue with episode 15, when it first came out. I couldn't figure out what on earth was going on, but I DID know that it was funny. After watching it, I checked out the other 14 episodes... Despite the constant Microsoft advertising... it really is funny, and it is worth a watch. Kind of like Penny Arcade.
