go here and bare witness to the awesome glory of the megacum.

I suppose you can use the cartridge slot for both GB games and GC memory cards.  I don't like the button layout.  I would have assumed that they would have taken the Cube button layout and made the b button kiddney shaped like the x and y and then taken all three of them and moved them closer to the A button.  This would have worked better than the current design if they lowered the A button with some kind of dip so the thumb can rest there and be surounded by the b,x, and y for easier access.  At least the dpad is a good size.

My real complaint though is that the screen is way way way way too small.  The screen should be able to compete with the PSP's screen size.  It could at least be made four times the size that is shown in the pic.

Now all we have to do is wait for Nintendo to say that it is a fake.

Of course it's a fake...The chance for something this big leaking out of Ninty is almost nill...

It's obviously a mockup, and that's obviously a screenshot of F-Zero taken from some place like IGN and shrunk. It's an interesting idea but in now way real.

Wow.....someone said counterstrike was exclusive?  Exclusive in the sense that it's so old no other company could possibly waste their money to buy a port?

man... knowsnothing... you have shown me that I have been programming for too long.  I had read half the page before I even realized it wasn't being displayed properly.  I was reading the source code just like it was the real deal.

Tip for you though.  Rename the extension to .htm, or .html.  It will work much better.

doesn't sound like Netscape or Mozilla... both of those will display txt/plain when presented with an unknown doctype...

Opera does tend to disobey standards if they think it will gain them a few users...  IE of course was developed by people who never heard of the W3C...

You running Opera over there?  I would check, but I don't feel like booting Windows, and I am happy with my browser here.

KnowsNothing, just out of curiousity, can you add this line in your <head> tags?

you know, if the screen in that GBA2 mock is bigger, like, say the size of the unit itself (like the GBA SP), then i would definitely buy it.

hmmm... I see.  I was just curious.  It's probably the way the Angelfire server is configured then.  What that did was to specify that the doc type of the document was txt/html, which I thought MIGHT override the file extension.  But Angelfire seems to have said that any file without an extension is of type txt/plain, which SHOULD render as source code in a standards complaint browser.

Yeah I know ...that was suggested at the bottom of the pic. But Is that even possible , I mean wouldnt the graphics have to be toned down a bit IF that were to ever happen.

I think the pic looks great.

I just noticed that there was a topic on fast forward earlier today about the same thing, but there should be one in cube discussion anyways cause nobody goes in that forum.

The problem with making the screen huge though is that it consumes more power.  I won't be getting one anyways because I already have a cube and would have only bought the thing to hook it up to my tv to play the games in the first place.  Of course with low cube sales (until this holiday season) the user base has plenty of room to grow so NIntendo can combine their home and portable markets next year allowing for years of gamecube and gameboy advance development since for some odd reason their portables sell better than all 3 consoles combined.

It's impressive enough that Nintendo crammed the immense power of the Gamecube in that little case, I seriously doubt they could shrink it down to the size of a handheld.

FU** THE GAMEBOY!!!

If nintendo makes one more tiny ass portable gaming system, im gonna shove an aligator up Iawatas ass.

If I ever want more tiny ass gaming in the future, ill get a cell phone.

Here: I just drew up my Nessix idea, in about 5 minutes. Nessix
Should I add a cd player?
Should the screen be a little smaller?

Ya damn right im a ****ing genius!

The system of your dreams...

The Gameboy is the best selling system Nintendo currently has. Even if your demand is minimal, overall demand is huge. Of all the systems that have existed, the GBA has, in my opinion, the best library of games ever (that's including the GB and GBC games you can play on it.)

(In reply to Ocarina Blue.)

Thats because the only competition it has ever had has been a POS giant sega gamegear.
Now theres the POS N-gage, and the upcoming PSP, and who the hell knows what else.

All of those things have something in common, they are all handhelds that are a bitch to play. No matter how good they get they will always have small screens. And because of that small screen there are huge limitations on the type of games you can play.
Like:
All rpgs have to either have a small viewing distance, or crappily small graphics.
FPShooters will never even come close to being as good as even N64 FPSs. Not because the handhelds cant be powerfull, but because the screen is too freaking small to show anything in detail. And that doesnt just mean the games will always look like crap, it also means certain objects cant be added, buildings will always seem like cardboard, and you wont ever realy get drawn in.
The controls will always be crap. Sure eventualy handhelds could be as good as GC controlers, but if im always going to be limited to just using thumb buttons and the occasional L&R button, then screw that completely.
Real time stragy games will never be able to be played. No good ones at least.

You are probably thinking, "so what, thats what consoles and PCs are for." To that I say, go to hell! You mean im always going to be tied down whenever I want to play a good game? Why!?
Now you are thinking, "so get a freaking laptop, they can play games." To that I say, I dont have 3 grand handy, and laptops arent made for gaming, and they arent as portable as you would think.

So uh, handhelds suck.
Portable doesnt always have to mean handheld.
Laptops are mobile but not realy portable, by that I mean they arent meant to be used on the move or on the can, usualy just in planes, homes, or offices, and occasionaly in cars.
So we need a hybrid. A portable thats not a laptop, not a handheld, and not made by an idiot company. At first I thought that was what the PSP was, until I saw the concept. I think nintendo should make the Nessix, a portable gaming device that has a bigger screen than a handheld, better graphics than a handheld, not as expensive or as bulky as a laptop, and alot better than either.

How would the Nessix be bad? Cost too much to make? So up the price a little and charge 40 bucks for the games. And if you have to, leave out the modem and the HD.
It would be up against stiff competition? No it wouldnt, its not an expensive ass laptop or a crappy expensive handheld. Theres no competition.
Doesnt fit in your pocket? Niether do alot of things, thats what hands are for. Or maybe get a strap and hang the thing off your wang, like you used to do with the original gameboy.
Not feasable to stick all that power in such a small case along with a battery pack? Hmm good point, go to hell. It can be done because I say it can be done.
With a hard drive and a net connection it will be easy to play pirated games? So nintendo has to think a little to prevent that, big deal. They could just add a program that detects illicit software, like punk buster. Or maybe the games have unique codes that must be registered. Or dont have the modem dial up to the internet, maybe nintendo online is like x-box live. It shouldnt be too hard.

So what the hell else can you think of? Come on. The Nessix would rock!

Nintendo is succeeding in the handheld market because they have a good console. In times when competition was non-existent, and the quality of Nintendo's handhelds was only average, they did not do well. Then they released a Good Game. Ever since Good Games have been being released, the handhelds have been doing fine. Any competition is pretty irrelevant; Nintendo's recent success is the cause of a good product, not much else.

Handhelds have good points and bad points. FPS' are a problem, RTS' hardly are successful on the consoles anyway, and RPG's are no problem. Have you played Golden Sun? It is of extremely high quality, and suffers, in my mind, of none of the issues you mentioned. I think the main thing you’re underestimating is the portability. I doubt many people would take gaming seriously enough to carry around a briefcase with a laptop-sized contraption in it if they’re going on a 10-minute bus ride or whatever, but slipping an SP into their pocket is no hassle. The small screen is, as current technology allows, required to allow for maximum portability. Fully portable and semi-portable systems belong in different markets. For decades, the game and watch, and then the GB line have proved there is a large market for small gaming devices. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, semi-portable products generally have been a complete failure. I doubt many would complain if Nintendo produced a small risk, experimental product of that nature (as long as it varied enough from the Virtual Boy ), but they’d never drop their line of GBs for it.

NarmaK: Look, maybe you shouldn't try to play the thing from three metres away, then the small screen shouldn't be an issue even for a person with bad eyesight. Making these things larger isn't a real option, after all the point is having a device that is as small as possible and has a long battery life. Graphics and sound are usually neglected to make the device fit the requirements. If you want a larger screen, get a used notebook (I got a nice one for EUR100).

No.

You are not going to put down the future of gaming like that.
My nessix wont be the size of a laptop, itll be the size of a freaking book. A little bigger than a DVD case when open.
Pretty soon GBA exclusive titles will be showing up on the PSP but better looking, and that is going to screw up nintendos handheld success.
CD players have never had a problem with not being portable enough. Sure mp3 players are smaller and better for it, but they are for listening not looking at.
If my arms werent 3 meters long I might not play from that far, but when I try bringing the tiny screen closer it still looks like crap only now my back and neck hurt.

You people are looking for OK games on a portable, I want realy freaking good ones. And eventualy, everybody will. I refuse to accept small crappy games forever, if you want small crappy games forever then just wait a few years and all cell phones will have GBA sized screens but with better graphics. Dont you ever want to play chrono trigger on the go? Or dont you ever want to play chrono trigger 2? Do you realy think SNES graphics are ever going to look normal on a handheld? Sure the games on the GBA are moderately good, but top down rpgs look more like 3rd person shooters when you walk around facing the ground.

RTS games dont work on consoles either? Does that mean they never will? Hell no. Start looking a little further into the future, past golden sun 3 and wind waker2. Eventualy portable gaming will be on wearable PCs equiped with retanal projectors, but that wont be for a while and im not going to sit here with tiny ass handhelds until then.

The SNES is in alot of peoples opinions the best console in history. As soon as the N64 came out the snes style games died. Many people still play the games emulated on their PCs. And GBA games try to be like SNES games but handhelds just cant do it. Even if the next GB has as much power as the SNES the screen will still suck and so will the controls. Even if it has N64 controls it still wont be enough. I want a freaking game system with keyboard like controls, mouse like controls, and GC like controls. That way all types of games can be played. FPS games will play almost as well as they do on PCs, racing and flying games can be played like on a GC, and you can communicate with online players like in PC games.

Now think about this, think about the new styles of gameplay that can be had by combining SNES graphics with online gaming. Maybe a MMORPG with SNES FF graphics. 2d soul calibur, like samurai showdown but better, and online. Doom multiplayer.
And thats just the beggining. What happends on the next portable gaming system. Or even on this one if they realy work on it. Playstation games, portable, and online. That means games like now, just a little crappier looking. N64 ports, not as good but close.

And uh, stuff.
So screw you all, portables shouldnt just be console substitutes they should be truly good.

You want more? Me too. Add an mp3 player. And free game trailers. Whatever. I just want this ****er.

Oh god, will you shutup. GBA is freaking awesome, and has incredible games, in fact a lot of Gameboy games are better than console games. The Gameboy SP screen is awesome, and the controls are perfect, stop being so ignorant.

FYI, the GBA is much more powerful than the SNES. The SNES can only beat it with the SuperFX2 chip, but we don't really want ugly, low-polygon games on the GBA, do we?

That cannot be done with a portable. A desktop system, maybe, but not a portable. If you downscaled these controls to a level suitable for a handheld, no human hand could use them.

If the GBA is so much more powerful than the SNES, then why does it only have nes ports?

If you like the freakijng GBA so much, good for you, you can continue playing that for the next 20 years. Me? In 20 years ill be playing with my bitching wearable PC, retenal projection and all. I dont care how good the GBA is, its still a freaking handheld. Its games are like regular games, but with dwarfism.

The GBA, its good. But my $5 keychain version of tetris is still better. But like I said, handheld games are on average always going to be alot worse than console games. Every once in a while there is a game where you dont think, "hey, this would be alot better if the screen werent so small and the controls werent so basic", but on the whole, thats what GBA games are. They is midjet games.

"we don't really want ugly, low-polygon games on the GBA"
Not on the GBA but on the GBA2, right? Or are they going to use a shrink ray to get good graphics into the next nintendo tiny ass handheld?

"That cannot be done with a portable. A desktop system, maybe, but not a portable. If you downscaled these controls to a level suitable for a handheld, no human hand could use them."
Handheld? I dont want a freaking handheld. This will use GC controll ports, a small keyboard that works differently than a keyboard. Certain letter keys will be bigger, as they will be used more often as directional buttons and action buttons and such. There wont be print home insert and crap keys. There wont be a numpad. There wont be F1-12 keys. No tab key, and alot of other keys will be gone as this is not a PC or laptop keyboard. The keyboard will be broken in the center to make room for the IBM thinkpad mouse stick device. If you have ever used one you should know that they work pretty damn well.
Soo.

"You mean, like, Ragnarok Online?"
No I mean a good game. Like say, a cross between FF11 and FF5.

"That won't happen soon. At least not with a battery life over 10 hours. "
What? Reword please.
