I must say, that is one sexy Game Boy...But the estimated battery life for something of that power chills me to the bone...

Why? Don't you like getting a full five minutes of play time? Just enough time to boot up Wario Ware, Inc 2.

why would you want to play GC games on the itty bitty screen?

Errr... so you can play it anywhere you like?
And who says it has to use batteries?
It would be so awesome if Nintendo release something like that, but knowing Nintendo, they'll think up something even better.

Berny: The GC battery pack can power the GC and an LCD for about two hours, or so I heard.

I am assuming that this is Nintendo's answer to the PSP. If it is true.

It is obviously not Nintendo's design! Even they are smart enough not to include a slot for GBA games. It would just be useless, since it would already have the back-comp. of the Gamecube games.

That's a pretty cool looking render. Obviously it's a fake (where's the Z button and memory card slot) but it's pretty cool nonetheless. I have a version of this pic without the "confidential" watermark as my wallpaper. While this design is functionally not realistic (it would be impossible to reach that d-pad and c-stick) the concept is pretty cool and IF Nintendo can make such a device they should. Of course battery usage a price are an issue but they may not be such a big deal in a few years. If they released this as a replacement for the Gameboy a few years from now they could compete with the PSP and keep the Cube format alive well after the launch of the N5. A required feature of such a device of course would be the ability to hook it up to a TV and connect controllers to it for multiplayer. They would also have to make it attach to the broadband adapter.
One thing that bugs me though is the button placement. If Nintendo went with a standard button arrangment they would almost certainly have the A & B buttons beside each other with the X & Y buttons over top like on the SNES controller. The person who made this probably hasn't been a Nintendo fan for very long.

I too was thinking that the design was very unrealistic. Would be cool, though, if they could design something like that properly.
They spent a lot of time on that, though. . . very well done.

Look how small the GC disc is compared to the GBA cartridge. That's a big-@$$ cartridge. and the control pads are almost as big as the disc is!! Also, that would actually be quite a large enough screen considering it is as big as the GC disk. In fact the whole unit would be huge considering how large it is in comparison to the disc. Unless we are assuming that they are using even SMALLER discs than the GCN uses. But that would be retarded so we won't assume that. And don't tell me the cartridge looks so big b/c of perspective. Nice render yes, but completely obviously fake.

1. The Disk-lid looks smaller due to the perspective (the rear end is placed lower than the front end). 2. The controls are too large, maybe to suggest a smaller size. The a-stick is about as large as the centerhole of the disk. 3. GODs are about 50% larger than a GBA cartridge.
We can assume that the artist here wasn't able to convert the sizes correctly. If we took the disk as the size reference, the real version would have controls maybe 1/3rd of the size portrayed and a smaller cartridge slot. The real version wouldn't have a GBA slot and the memcard slot would be positioned so the card fits into the shape of the device perfectly (and 3rd party cards don't) like the cartridge on the GBs.
