Title: Gaming Moments
Post by: Grey Ninja on December 13, 2003, 04:00:29 PM
It's an opinion of mine that there is a moment in each of your favorite games that are burned into your mind, and you will never EVER forget.  I don't know if that holds true for you, but it certainly does for me.  I would be very interested in knowing your favorite games, and what those moments are, if they exist.  I would assume that this will become a spoiler filled topic, but my own posts will be spoiler free where possible.  If not, please use the <spoiler> tag.

1)  Zelda: Wind Waker.  This game had two scenes of very high note, and I would be remiss if I didn't mention one of them, so I must mention both.  The most obvious scene was the ending.  The contrast of the most dark story in a Zelda game, and the light artstyle had really had a profound effect on me throughout the game, and with the ending, everything was brought together in a way that I had never foreseen.  The other scene, I will describe with a track title from the Chrono Trigger OST.  "The Day the World Revived"

2)  Xenogears.  The moment would have to be the first scene in the second disc.  It was at that moment that I had decided that Xenogears had earned the trophy for being the best game I had ever played, and everything after was just a formality.  It wasn't really a shocking or unpredicted scene, but it made me smile, and it was some really great imagery.

3)  Chrono Trigger.  "The sea of clouds has parted and the storm has finally abated.  Could the long winter finally be over?"  The scene which I refer to of course is the part of the game which caused this event.  It was incredibly shocking to me that a video game could do such a thing at the time.

4)  Metal Gear Solid.  "Why?  I loved you..."  I am sure that everyone who has played the game will remember that moment forever.  The character which I am referring to has to be the most dynamic ever in the history of a video game.  It shouldn't have surprised me by that point in the game, as it was the last scene before the second disc, and there were several before then that had a great deal of impact ("Compared to you... I'm not so bad."), but that scene is truly one which can never be forgotten.

5)  Eternal Darkness.  "Charlemagne...."  The character of the third chapter was special.  There were events going on in the chapter which really brought the game to life.  Although later chapters would improve upon the formula greatly, and some of them hit very close to home, I have found that I still like the 3rd chapter the best.  By the end of the chapter, you know very well what is going to happen, and you can't do a thing to stop it.  You just try to do your job.  I must also give a small mention of "The Gift of Forever" though.

6)  Final Fantasy VI.  This was a game that was broken into two parts.  The first part ended with a fairly traumatic event, and I think it goes without saying that this was the moment that most people will remember of this game the most.  "On that day, the world changed forever."  I really became quite the Square fanboy when this game came out, and it really took Final Fantasy IX, Chrono Cross, and Legend of Mana to really make me come to realize how horrible they had really gotten.

7)  Final Fantasy IV.  I really think that this game was out to set the record of most deaths in a game when they made it.  But regardless, it really seemed to work.  It was one of the first games to really try to have a story that stood head and shoulders above the rest, and I really respect that.  I really think that the moment that stood out in this game for me was Palom and Porom.  It was a simple scene, but was quite effective in its job.

8)  Conker's Bad Fur Day.  Everyone no doubt remembers the "Saving Private Ryan" stuff that was in all the trailers.  I choose more to remember the ending above all.  The game was often over the top, and was NEVER serious.  That contrast to the ending was a real shock, and will forever be remembered as the last of the Rare greats, and my favorite game from Rare.  I think that it was a good way to remember my old friend Rare.

9)  Silent Hill 2.  Angela.  Knife.  Empty room with big mirror.  I had a screenshot of that part of the game as my desktop background for many months.  Whenever my roommate saw it, she knew instantly the meaning behind it, even though she had never played the game, and had no idea who Angela was.  She said it was a nice background, but WAY too morbid.  Given that it was Christmastime though... I needed it.  But the fact of the matter is that that scene is my most memorable.  But the line that I remember most from the game... "James... you meant so much to me" will never leave me until the day I die.

10)  America's Army.  I actually really have a problem with putting this game on my top 10 list, beating out other games I love very much.  It's a PC Game, and it's an FPS.  Both of those things I generally dislike.  However, it deserves it's place here.  The first time I played the game online, I was playing on The Bridge map.  I looked down on the bridge from above, and it was exactly what I had wanted to see.  The friendly side was wearing pure white arctic combats, and were climbing around on the bridge.  There was a dense ice fog in the level, and both sides were taking heavy casualties.  There was shooting, explosions, bleeding, and dying.  It felt like home to me, and I loved the map very much.  It's just the general atmosphere I love so much.  I am a Canadian.  I like snow.

Honorable mentions would include reading the "diary" of the main character in Secret of Mana in my Nintendo Power magazines, hearing the radio announcer in SSX 3 talk about Dangerous Dave, seeing the main gates of Valua open up in Skies of Arcadia, and fighting my first no-win scenario in Wing Commander III.

Well, I don't exactly remember everything about certain parts of games but there are things in some games that i loved. (These are some of my favorite games but not in this order.)

Super Mario Brothers 3
When you beat the game and it says something like "Sorry Mario the Princess is in another castle. Just kidding. HAHA" I thought that was hysterical, and i couldnt stop laughing.

Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
I really liked that you could steal from the store, but i really liked how your name changed to THEIF after you stole something. I thought that was funny.

Donkey Kong Country
I liked the way that in the middle of final boss fight King K. Rool goes down and the fake credits start rolling. I remember when i was 7 and i was playing this game with my friend, we had actually thought we beat it. We had gotten all happy, then we saw him get get up and we both were like .

I think that i remember most of the funny things in the games that i play.
That's all i feel like typing for now, i might edit this later.

I'm not in a thinking mood so I'll just name a few and I wont be ranking games in order.

Super Mario Kart
This was the first video game I ever owned and I was racing on 100cc Special Cup as Luigi. Before starting Rainbow Road according to the scores all I needed was to beat Yoshi. 4 laps down and I'm coming 5th, during my last lap I managed to fight my way to 4th but just when I though all was lost, as I turned around the final corner I saw in the corner of the screen Lakitu carrying Yoshi back onto the track! I yelled with joy, went down the finishing straight finished 3rd, Yoshi finished 5th and when the points were counted up, I won! And then guess what happened! After watching the credit I had unlocked 150cc MODE! Does this game ever end!
In an off note it took me years to finish 150cc mode, I have since, but I cant remember doing it, one day I checked to see if I had finished it and I had!

Perfect Dark
Note much here, just wanted to say that I was really suprised when I first met Dr Carol.

I agree with you ib2kool4u912 on the ending to Super Mario Brothers 3, I really liked that too.

I'll probably think of more later, but this is what I've got for now:

Link's Awakening: The ending. . . I hate to give stuff away, so I'll be vague. . . having something that should seem so sad and depressing actually be extremely happy and pleasing.  I'm not sure.  It's one of my favorite endings ever, though.

Kirby 64: There are a few moments in my life when I have laughed so hard I could hardly breath, so hard I seriously thought I might die.  My sister and I were playing the fruit drop minigame, and (as some of you may know), some of them are actually bombs.  You can tell because they blink and have wicks, but she couldn't tell, and ran for them anyway, even as everyone else ran away.  She blew up every time a bomb came down, so eager that she might actually get a fruit. . . we must have played the game about twenty times straight, and the laughter never eased up.  Hilarious.

More later, I need to go for now.

Well most of my favourite games I completed too long to recall parts of the story I loved ( ala Final Fantasy VII ) but I will say what I loved about them

Metal Gear Solid - My favourite part of this game when Otacon peed his pants , I found this real funny , for a grwon man to pee his pants. I also enjoyed the moment when  S*******f died ( like grey stated ) ...there are more but I am too tired to say.

Final Fantasy VII - I really enjoyed the whole game , I remember so much but forgot the plot . I loved the part when I first met Ariel , it was a classic ...I remember trying to escape from an area with her , we were running away from troops on top of the roof of a church or something .

P.S ...I am at the moment playing Tales Of Phantasia which will surely go in this list , It is an excellent game , I am a few hours away from finishing it so I will update soon.

I'm really surprised you haven't learned tha spoiler tag yet akdaman after grey even put it in his post.  This would be your second time.

Anyways,  probably the one recently that stands out the most, is when I beat WW. When I turned the last beam of light back towards Ganon and the sword then went up and through his forehead. This is the first Zelda game I have ever beaten.  I never owned OoT or Majora's Mask until now.

The only other that I can think about right now, is when I beat ED for the first time.  I tried soo many times trying to figure out some kind of pattern to the last guy and dying.  And when I finally did, it was a awesome feelnig partly because of the scope of the game.  Although my brother did beat it faster his first time :\.  I only have 1/2 way to go on my 3rd time through to completely finish it and get the supposed not to great super ending.

Moments that just stick out in my memory:

Mario 64: After the final battle is over, to see Mario return to the castle and get a kiss from Peach just made me go Awwwwwwwwwww. And the frustration of getting 120 Stars (I never got the last one on that flying level with the clouds - my brother wiped over my file when it was on 118, and then I started again and got to 119 )

Zelda OoT: After defeating Ganondorf on top of the castle, thinking the game was over because Zelda was there, and then going crazy trying to get the hell out of there before the castle collapsed. And then there was Ganon...
Also, the Bunny Hood - Best. Zelda. Item. Ever!

Zelda MM: People keep mentioning the Anju and Kafei storyline, and I was reminded of this scene where, with about two hours of game time to go, that you have to rush back to the inn to meet the reunited couple and retrieve that mask (which had no point if my memory is correct). So it was insignificant in terms of the real game, but 'magic' in the story-telling sense - Guy loves girl, girl loves guy, guy loses wedding mask, risks death to steal mask from thief, wins girl's heart, live happily ever after, moon falls, y'know, that old chestnut.

Zelda WW: The sight of Ganondorf, with the sword planted between his eyes after the final battle. And also the huge statue of the Hero Of Time in Hyrule Castle, and the castle being frozen in time, sealed under the sea. I stayed away from the spoilers until I had this game, but I had suspicions that the old Hyrule was nearby, particularly as they told the story of the Hero of Time.

Goldeneye / Perfect Dark: The Complex. The single reason I kept playing these games until TS2 came out!

Metroid Prime: The title music. The first time I heard it when I booted up MP, it sent shivers up my spine. And it still does.

Mario Kart 64 : I remember when My cousin and I were playing multiplayer , he had 6 green shells ( 3 baloons) , while I only had 3 green shells and 1 balloon . We were in the middle of block fort ( an nice arena with few turns ) and he was behind me . He shot 1..2...3 turtle shells. I slid right through the perfect shots of turtles , I shoot back a turtle ....SCORE. He shoots 2 more , I dodge ...then out of nowhere I shot back my remaining 2 turtles ( with my back turned to him ) and 1 scores ...he is lucky he turns around only to find the turtle shell that I missed him with had rebounded off the nearby wall and hit him Straight in the face...I WON...It was an AMAZING feeling.

( Sorry my spelling and story is hard to follow )

Tales Of Phantasia : Well this game is AMAZING!!! My favourite part of the game was when I defeated Demitel , It was the fact that I was progressing through the game ...He was the first MAJOR boss in the game. I also enjoyed the new charecter that joined my party after the match.

Perfect Dark - One of the missions involved guarding the president, so i decided to be silly and aimed at the presidents head, i shot like 50 bullets from my machine gun or whatever it was (i think it was a CMP), and every single bullet missed! It was hilarious, there was bullet marks on the wall behind him, and when he moved they were in the outline of a head, i just managed to shoot around his head without hitting him. Its kinda hard to explain, you had to be there.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Oh ho ho, good ol Sonic 2. The last boss (i wont spoil anything), i remember fighting that boss perfectly, i would get my ass kicked every time. Every day i tried to beat it, but failed. It almost made me go crazy with anger, but i kept my cool every time. Now, about 6 years later, i still havent beaten it.

Sonic Mega Collection - When i got this game earlier this year, i was overwhelmed with memories, they just all flooded back to me, Sonic was back! And on a Nintendo console too. I selected Sonic 2, began playing, and fell in love with Sonic once again.

Luigi's Mansion - A few moments from this game that struck me emotionally that i wont forget. The ending almost had me in tears. How Luigi ran towards Mario after he was saved from the painting, and the tears of laughter coming from Luigi were just AWESOME. I will never forget that. And the end credits music to Luigi's Mansion is my favourite song from any game, ever. And also, the first time i played this game, and i sucked up a ghost, i just thought "woah". The game was nothing like ive ever played, i was in love with it, and still am.

Starfox Adventures - The ending, and the test of fear. I loved them, and will always remember them. Nuff said.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - The first time i played this i had never even heard of Zelda, i had no idea what i was going to be playing, as i walked around for the first time, and saw the incredible environment, and just... i cant explain it. I was in awe, i guess this was the first real 3D game i had played. The satisfaction i got from completing the puzzles and dungeons, getting items, and killing bosses was like nothing ive ever felt before. This was the perfect game. Until...

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - I got this game the first day it came out, i actually remember getting it and getting ready to play it. I fell in love with it. I LOVED the music, and the mood of the game, and i couldn't believe how awesome the graphics were (back then). Well anyway, the part i will never forget is when i first went up to the moon to that peaceful meadow. It was so peaceful. And also, after i beat Majoras Mask, the end credits, the Zora band were playing, the song in the background was perfect, i was sitting back watching and smiling. Oh, and theres more, there was this ONE GOD DAMN HEART PIECE that i spent about 12 hours straight trying to get, It was one of the ones where after you give your mask to one of the people up on the moon, and you get taken to this place, the one where you're a goron and have to roll and bounce off treasure chests PERFECTLY. UUUUUGH i remember that because it was so goddamn hard! I tried HUNDREDS of times to get up to where the heart piece was, ended up playing for 12 hours straight, from 8pm to 8am. I wasnt going to stop until i got it, and i got it! . Oh, and tons more that i wont bore you with

Super Mario 64 - The whole game. Best game ever.

ummmmm, thats all i can remember at the moment.

First of all, I completly agree Grey Ninja. I proboboly have hundreds of moments tucked away in my memory, and I can remember  a fair share of them. Only a few really stand out though. Here is a small section of them.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - When I first obtained this game, I was not really a gamer. All I had ever done was obtain a small number of games and play them to death. I only owned 3 other games for the N64 before I got this. However, I had become more interested in gaming, and I knew about this game long before it was released. This being before I had access to the web, I ardently followed magazines for all information I could get about the game, dropping into various bookstores every Thursday to see if the new shipment had arrived yet. Needless to say, I was pretty hyped for the game. If this was almost any other game, I think I would have been disappointed when I received it, but OoT reeked of quality from the beginning.

My most vivid memory of the game is taking a step back and thinking just how good the game was. Fishing as an adult, I thought about Kokori forest as a kid, and running past the guards to get to Zelda. It suddenly dawned on me that the game was miles ahead of anything else I'd ever played. Then I remembered many other events in the game as well, most of them were minor oddities, making Daruna dance, playing songs to frogs, and shooting the target in the lost woods to get extra ammunition capacity for my slingshot. I went of further to realise the range of things you did on your journey made it feel like a journey, not just an excuse to shoot/jump on/race things. Although not a dramatic or exciting moment in the game, it remains memorable to me because of what I realised while it was happening.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - I was extremely disappointed when I first received this game. Finding the annoying kids I found to be difficult, and more a case of trial and error than anything else. I kept on playing though, and I enjoyed playing through the game. I got to the stone palace, and found it incredibly hard. After spending several monotonous hours on a puzzle, a simple solution can seem far away. After a while, I gave up. One of memories is hopelessly wandering around the stone palace, growing increasingly frustrated.

A few months later, I tried again. This time I understood it. Similarly to how OoT had felt like a complete experience, MM did too. The difference was where OoT had a cliche story involving an underprivileged child saving a princess and the world, MM had stories almost completely void of such things. The basics were there (which is one of the reasons why I was originally unimpressed with it) but delving deeper, I could see that there were many things more interesting than the somewhat tired main plot. As with OoT, the moment is remembered most vividly more because it symbolized an important realization for me than because of what it is. The moment itself is when Kafei married Anju. This game is still by far my favourite game ever.

Once again, I'll update this later.

I have mostly old school memories, since i'm an old head.

Ikari warriors-It took me and my friend seemingly days to beat this, there was no save.  Very rewarding.
The Legend of Zelda-hearing that little jingle when you find something,   a staple for all zeldas to come, was magic to my ears, and still is.
Castlevania-Beating the count..awesome.
Final fantasy 2-Cant remember any specific moment, but i remember beating it was a long and hard journey, and i felt invincible after beating it.
Metroid-The first time i found a secret passage by bombing the floor.
Super mario brothers-The coolest memory i have is world 7 or 8[?] when its nighttime.  I just loved it for some reason, and still do.  Honorable mention to the minus world, when i finally got Marios head stuck in the brick so i could warp to it.
Ghosts and Goblins-The game was so hard, that i'll never forget beating it.  I still rank it as one of my great accomplishments, along with the sequal.
Tag team wrestling-Becoming super champ.  Another gamne with no save, and you had to win 100 matches to become super champ.  I left the NES on all day while i was out so i didnt lose my place.

I have others, but those stuck with me for some reason.

Well......

I don't think I'll ever forget Sonic 2.  It was my first videogame ever, and I couldn't get past Zone 2 act 2.  I still can't beat that stupid game.  No parts in particular....so yeah.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time:  Basically the whole thing.  This was my first Zelda game and favorite game of all time, and I'll never forget any of it.  It's not the ending of games that stick out in my mind, but the beginings.  I'll never forget the Kokiri Forest or Saria...and the music in the game is just amazing.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask:  Please note, I haven't finished this game and I don't paticualrly like it.  But the whole game has this amazing sense of style and eeriness.  And as much as I don't like being timed, the way they handled time travel was pretty cool.  I enjoyed every minute of the game, but I stopped playing when I ran out of time right in front of the Kyorg's door.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening:  This was the first game that I have ever played and beaten more than once.  The begining sticks out in my mind, when Link first washes up on the shore and wakes up in a strange house.  I love this game.

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker:  Well, I remember coming home from school the first day I got it and watching the title screen for the first time. And seeing Aryll wave at Link looking al sad and crap.....*sniff* Aryll's too goddamn cute.  Listening to the music and seeing everything for the first time in WW is just so magical. Man, I love this game too.  My disk broke, though.  But I did get to the ending and I don't think I'll ever forget that either.  The cel shaded graphics were absolutely perfect.

Super Mario 64:  Beating the final boss.  I had tried him so many times, but I couldn't do it.  I was so nervous fighting him the last time, and then finding out you had to throw him into those spiked bombs YET AGAIN made me so very angry.  But I finally beat him with sweaty palms and shaking all over.  I was so proud of myself. ^_^

Not really in order...

1.) Ocarina of Time - Leaving Saria...

2.) Wind Waker - I had never been so enveloped in a game since LttP.  Everything was so picture perfect that the whole game has been imprinted in my mind...

3.) Conker's Bad Fur Day - Same as Grey...The ending just left me with a sad, sickening feeling in my stomach...

4.) Mario & Luigi - The funniest RPG ever left me dwelling over the different things that happened by the time I finished it...

5.) Gunstar Heroes - The end of the game sort of shocked me...Another sad ending

There are many more, but if I could I would fill out several pages...

The videogame moment most burned into my mind is the part of Wind Waker when you first walk into the Temple in Hyrule and everything is frozen in time and black and white. That part of the game was so powerful, I just stood there and stared for what must have been 10 or 15 minutes. Then it went further when you walk out of the temple and see all of Hyrule- it was the most incredible thing I've ever seen in a videogame.

The other notable moment is the ending cutscene to Ico, which, in my opinion, is the best in a videogame yet. No matter how many times I see it, my eyes fill up with tears- not because it's sad, but because it's so beautiful.

I also loved Hyrule Temple in WW.  I stared there for just as long as you did, not wanting to move, mezmorized.

But dang, MC, now I want to play Ico even more!

Metroid Prime:
The whole game, environment, ending, extended ending, and the cut scenes were all very memorable, this game is the most addicting game to play ever.

Zelda ocarina of time/majoras mask/wind waker:
The temples, i still remember where everything is, same with majora's mask and wind waker.

All final fantasies:  The music and story.

*SPOILERS BELOW***BE WARY*

Wind Waker
I liked bringing the Temple of the Gods out of the water in the Wind Waker. And then going down in Hyrule both with and without frozen time. And then the ending made me cry. The very end, not the death of Ganon. But that was cool too. Ok, can I make the whole game a favorite gaming moment?

Metroid Prime
Finally beating the Omega Pirate. Getting 100% on hard.

Eternal Darkness
Um...there are quite a few. Watching Paul Luther get smoted by the guardian. Killing the Guardian as Peter Jacob. Fighting Pious as all the characters. Oh and the scene where good ol' Max goes apesh!t on his servants is forever burned into my mind. That was sad.

A Link to the Past
Link as a bunny was great. Blind's dungeon is for some reason my favorite. I liked having to bring him into the light to kill him.

Ocarina of Time
The battle against Ganondorf and then Ganon was so fun. This game is what got me hooked on Zelda. It is very dear to me.

Majora's Mask
There is so much in this game: the four guardians' saving the earth, the sad story of Skull Kid (reminds me of Smeagol a bit...actually a LOT...Jeez! I only just now make the connection), following the monkeys through the forest, putting the giant goron to sleep and watching him fall to his demise (I know he didn't REALLY die)

Well, if I go on, I'm gonna get banned for continuing an already huge post. So, that's it for now.

1.) Ocarina of Time - Leaving Saria...

I know what you mean, Bill.  I felt really sick to my stomach having to watch Saria leave. . . you leave everyone behind, really, but her especially. . .

I remember Little Nemo for NES. . . could never beat it without game genie, but it left me with an awesome feeling nonetheless.  Same goes for Jackal.  And Kirby (no game genie for Kirby). . . NES Kirby was a GREAT game; so much stuff to do.

Never owned a Super Nintendo, but there were tons of great games I recall playing with my friend.  There's one I'm still trying to find; if anyone could help, that'd be great, but I have so little info it'd barely help.  I think it's two player co-op, overhead for walking around and I think maybe a side view for fighting.  It seems that they were travelling through China, but I'm not sure.  Anyway, I think that might've been a good game

Star Fox 64: Extremely good game. . . I don't really recall any specific wonderful moments, but there's an array of small stuff, trying to defeat enemies and beat levels in different ways, harder ways.  Much fun.

Playing Mario 64 for the first time. . . a friend of mine came over and did a dialogue between Mario (whom he dubbed Timmy) and his dead grandfather, who ruled the castle, while I played.  Much stuff branched off of that, and it was a lot of fun.

SSBM: Tons and tons of fun, awesome, cool matches with murk280.  Great game.

Here's a couple of my favourite moments. I'll try to be spoiler free.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - I just remember the first time playing it and how utterly WOWED I was by it. Running around Kokiri Village at the beginning just seemed so amazing. Ocarina of Time was EXACTLY what I wanted out of 3D Zelda game. The whole experience is memorable.

Metroid Prime - I really suck at this game so I'm kind of stuck but the whole experience thus far has been incredible. It's the only Cube game thus far to give me a feeling of awe. I don't think the gameplay is perfect but the atmosphere and attention to detail is the best I've ever seen.

Super Smash Bros Melee - Beating Event 51 and as a result unlocking the sound test. This is probably my favourite game moment ever because it's something I did, not something I watched. If my Smash Bros save ever gets deleted I will cry like a little girl.

Banjo-Kazooie - I was initially put off by the N64 so I didn't play this game until a few years later when my brother finally bought a used console. The game itself is a Super Mario 64 clone (though a good one) but what really stood out for me was the intro. I had NEVER seen an intro like that before. The music and the animation was unlike anything I had seen on the SNES (which was the most recent console I had owned at the time).

Metroid Fusion - This is a potential spoiler. I'm going to use a really bare bones description but if you're a real stickler for going in fresh look away. I really loved the part where you first encounter the frozen body of an old foe. I'm pretty sure I said "holy sh!t" for that one even though it's not that big of a surprise if you think about it.

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - This one is a very memorable moment that really can't be replicated. I bought A Link to the Past used without an instruction manual. At the time I had never played a Zelda game and knew very little about the series except that they were REALLY good games. I remember when I first beat Agahnim and was teleported to the top of the pyramid in the dark world. Sounds pretty insignificant, huh? Well it was a big deal to me because I had NO CLUE that there was a whole other world to play in. The fact that I still had most of the game ahead of me was a complete shock. Of course most people didn't have this same experience because the two worlds were explained in the manual. Personally I think that most manuals contain too much info and should only tell you the barebones controls and leave levels, enemies, and power-ups out completely. Games would be much more surprising that way.

You mean there's a dark world?  AWWWW!  Why'd you tell me?!

Nah, that's cool, though.  I know that feeling. . . I never read manuals, so I get little surprises all the time.

Americas army, hey, I got one of those.

On the alaskan pipline level. I was on assault. I had the 203 and was watching the vent for my rival, the rest of my team (all 4 of them) ran off to wherever the hell they wanted, then they all got taken out extremely quickly. 3 of them by one enemy frag nade and the last by whatever, cant remember. So, I was still hiding by the spawn point and uttered a censored "****!". So it was me vs. 5 other guys carrying various high powered weapons, meanwhile I was sitting in my little spot with nothing but a semi-auto assault rifle equiped with a grenade launcher.

So, first guy eventualy pops out the front door, he sees me, freezes for some reason (he was readying the nade launcher portion of his own 203) so then, I readied mine for some reason, not realy a bright move as I could have shot him easily. So then, he fires one out, misses, and I fire one out, hits him right in the face, yay.

Ok, one down. A fluke I assume. Then I move over to the shed and keep an eye on the front door for his buddies. And I switch my weapon to burst fire. Guy pops out, lucky me, I start shooting, and missing, he shoots back, I get hit, I shoot back some more, hes dead. And im wounded and bleeding.

Some dude heard us and pops out of the basement door to the left of the front door. I see him, he doesnt see me, he has an AR so I hide behind the shed. I shoot at him, miss, he shoots back, misses, I shoot back, hes dead, I win again. Interesting I thought.

Then immediately I see another dude that probably heard me kill him, so he pops out the same door, sees me, chases me, I run and hide back at the spawn point without him seeing me. So hes by the sheds looking for me and about to find me. So I just pull out a frag nade for fun, im gonna die anyways. I toss it over the fence and by the sheds, it goes off, takes him down along with his other buddy that I never saw.

I won. 5 guys of various honor levels vs. level 8 little ol me. Surprised the hell outa me, teamates say whoa. I go back to sucking.

Great moment. Something you never get in single player games.

Another moment im sure to have is when I finaly get FFXI and start getting the ***t beat outa me by trains of giant beasts, outside of Bastok.

Getting your ass beat is one of the greatest things you can find in a game. Especialy when the time comes when you get to be the beater of ass.

Hmm, what else. Wind Waker of course, kicking gannons ass and that final sword through the brain. Suprised the hell outa me.

OoT, first time Ghoma apeared. I thought the game was like mario up till that moment. Then beating her and watching her crumble and burn. That was cool.

MGS the dude pissing himself, yeah, memorable. He better do it in Twin Snakes or im gonna write a letter.

But anyways, Americas Army, good game, best of all, its free. Download it and play it, its only 650 megs.
