Post by: joshnickerson on December 03, 2003, 03:58:32 PM
According to IGN, Sonic Heroes will debut on the cube on January 5th, three weeks before the game launches on Xbox and PS2 on January 27th.

Considering Sonic Team has preference to GameCube, I'd place my money on "No, the world hasn't gone mad." Just me though.

Well, considering the game sucks hard core, I really don't care. I mean seriously, who here played the demo and LIKED it? That was rhetorical. I'm sure there's at least 5 people here who liked it. I just happen to dislike it. With an intense, passionate, undying hatred.

Sweet. I also read that the GameCube version is not a PS2 port. I applaud Sega and Sonic team.

I find it really hard to believe Sega will actually release the game on January 5th. January is just a terrible time to release games and releasing one in the first week of January just after Christmas would be one of the most idiotic moves in Sega's history. I think the games will be delayed until at least February which is when SA2B came out a couple of years ago. I do think giving the Gamecube version a headstart would make sense. Both Sonic Adventure ports sold well on the Gamecube afterall.
BTW, the Sonic Heroes demo is actually really fun. It just takes a while to get used to the crazy controls. The problem is people aren't giving it a chance. I hated the demo at first too but after I got over the learning curve it became by far my favorite Gamecube demo yet (beating out both the SC2 and VJ demos). The level design is amazing, the controls are intuitive after some practice, and the camera isn't as bad as in the Sonic Adventure games and there aren't anywhere near as many glitches. The only thing that really sucks is the voice acting.

We also got Rayman 3 first, with GBA linkup. I didn't say that the game was good or the linkup was worthwhile. But that means more effort and work from Ubisoft and a sooner release date.

Yeah saw this and I then showed it to my friend who was gonna get it for PS2 and he told me to go check the release on the PS2 version and both Gamespot and IGN have it listed as being released on January 6th. If this is true then I really don't care. I mean big deal we get a one day head start over PS2, whats to get happy about. So unless Sega delays heros till the 27th and have it release with the Xbox then i really dont care about this stuff.

Yeah, I didn't care for what I played either... it seemed as though I was just holding forward on the control stick the whole time, I don't really remember having to jump or anything.

My thoughts while playing Sonic Heroes: "Sonic go. Sonic jump. OMG! SWITCH TO TAILS! Tails fly. Tails fly higher. Tails jump off cliff. Other "heroes" also jump to their deaths because....THERE IS NO LOGIC!!!"
Oh yeah, and my cousin played that and he commented on how stupid the intro song was. He was like, "I could have thought that up in 5 minutes and the guy that did it first will get millions." I said, "He won't get paid if it doesn't sell. Which it won't, if this is what it will be like."

I thought there was too much going on in Sonic Heroes for me to enjoy it...I like a game that I can set my mind on one thing without getting a migrane...

Hey, to each his own Bill. I don't hate you (too much ) for not hating Sonic Heroes. I personally like stress. And frustration. And VJ. And not SH. By the way, I think this thread should be re dubbed, SH discussion/bashing. Bill, get out of here. This is the place to BASH. Go start your OWN thread. You arent wanted here.

Back in the days of the Sega Genesis I was a huge Sonic fan... I mean, the SNES eventually won out as my favorite system from that era because of Donkey Kong, but the sheer speed of the gameplay that the Sonic games brought to the table made for hours upon hours of fun! The Sonic games were pure fun through and through. It was pure gameplay bliss. The somehow when Sonic went 3D something was lost. The feeling of speed wasn't the same, and the gameplay seemed to be lacking the special ingredients that made the original formula so awesome.
Don't get me wrong, the Sonic games are still fun in their own way. Yet while Mario entered the 3D world with one of the most amazing games of all time (Mario 64), sonic seemed to have a harder time with the transition...

I didn't really mind the Sonic Heroes demo too much. It wasn't worse than the Sonic Adventure games so at the very least it's an improvement. I think the concept of playing three characters at once is pretty cool I just found that the major problems with the SA games are still present: floaty controls and a REALLY sh!tty camera. You figure eight years after the release of NiGHTS that Sonic Team would have figured out how to make a decent 3D camera. It's not that hard. Make it so you can move the camera any direction you want and use one button to center the camera behind your character.
Since the camera was always the biggest problem with the Sonic Adventure games the fact that it still sucks is going to doom this title to mediocrity which is too bad because it's a step in the right direction and seems like a legitimate attempt to improve. There's no more boring search or mech levels anymore which alone is a great improvement.
I think Sega has to realize what Konami and Capcom have been forced to learn the hard way: some classic 2D franchises don't work in 3D. I think like Mega Man and Castlevania, Sonic is going have to go back to being a 2D series where it may not be as high calibur of a title but will remain true to the series.
Oh and Sonic Team NO ONE LIKES AMY, ROUGE, CREAM OR ANY OF THESE OTHER LOSERS SO STOP MAKING US PLAY THEM!!

LOL. Ya' have to laugh at that. That's exactly what SMS did and critics hated it. I've come to the conclusion there's no way to make people happy with a camera. Unless it has some sort of magic ability to know exactly what you want to see and always show it, people will complain. If it requires any sort of intervention by the player, people will complain. If the computer controls it for even a second, people will complain.

That's also what Wind Waker did and everyone loved it. And even if it was executed like in SMS it would be an improvement and would be tolerable. The problem with Super Mario Sunshine's camera was that it got stuck on objects and when Mario was behind something all you saw was a silouhette. I find the problem with most 3D cameras is that the designers treat it like a physical camera so it get's stuck when it swings around behind the main character. With Zelda they made it so that the camera instantly teleported behind which is the most "well DUH" addition to a camera ever and the fact that everyone hasn't copied it since (including EAD themselves!) is bizarre.
Make the camera go through solid objects and make solid objects become transparent when they block the main character and *POOF* instant usable camera.
