Title: Time Splitters 2.........How good is it?
Post by: SLIVER on November 23, 2003, 03:52:24 AM
I still havn't played this game to date. Its very hard to find.
What is it in this game that makes it so cool? Is it really better than Halo? Can you play co-op missions? Give me some info on this game.

What makes this game so great is that its really fun and its the best FPS on Gamecube. The multiplayer is really really good and the customation and options is unbeliveable. The single player is pretty good too and there is a TON of stuff to unlock. This game is highly reccomended since you can pick it up brand new at mostly any store for about $20. Go For It. O yes I forgot there is Co-Op for the whole story mode of the game which is really really cool.

I've had TS2 for about ayear and a half, and still play it frequently. Theres tons of stuff to unlock. Multi-player is almost as good as Goldeneye. And , lets not forget, you can make your own multiplayer maps. Definately worth a purchase. My EB had it used for 14.99, so its pretty cheap right now.

The multiplayer is phenominal its great, I dont really like the story mode though. Its a great game that was made by the old Golden Eye team from Rare.

I have this game but am done with it. It was good but It just diddent stick with me and my friends. co-op was cool tho. BUt ignore that multiplayer level builder.. Its so basic and limited the best thing you could build is a decorated box.

Definitely worth a purchase even if it was still $50, but just so you know the game moves very quickly. In multiplayer you will hardly ever find yourself aiming because if you try to aim someone will rip you to pieces with a machine gun.

Perhaps you're not good at making maps? My maps are as good as the maps included.

I just wish you could make a bigger map...So many great ideas in my head, yet I have to scale down when I make it... ;___;

Definitely worth the price of admission (especially at the $20 price tag in many places). Personally, I don't think it compares favorably to Halo, but its by far the best FPS on the 'Cube - for both single and multi-play.

Pffftt...Halo can't compare to an exhirilating game of Virus on a home-made map...

It's very under-rated in my opinion. It has the that Goldeneye feel to it that PD lacked, and it is very humourous. Some very original concepts like the Monkey Assistant multiplayer game, and lots of cheesy fun (ie Harry Tipper, big breasted women etc). I wasn't ever a Halo fan, but I love the FPS genre. Get this game.

"I still havn't played this game to date. Its very hard to find."
yeah, its hard to find if you dont look. if you get up off your arse and look, its at nearly every gaming retail around.
its not that great, the multi-player is fun, and highly customizable. the story mode DOES have co-op, but the levels are boring, the AI is mentally retarded, and, well, the story mode is laughable. this, of course is no halo... halo spanks on this like its his red-headed step child. if youve got an xbox and halo, its hardly worth the purchase.

So if you have an xbox, you shouldn't ever need another FPS? Thats funny. I could say if you have Halo on your PC, the xbox is hardly worth a purchase. In reality, they are two very different games, and the multi-player is very fun and customizable. The game is well worth the purchase.

The only problems I have with TS2 is the story is bad and the C-Stick aiming is very sensitive, so it can be hard to aim. Other than that, it's pretty fun.

Ooooh. I love TS2. The single player is disjointed, but not bad. Just poorly implemented. I think it is a cool idea though, to have different time periods and different weapons to go with the different time periods. I really enjoy this game.

The Single player mission mode was pretty much your standard fare, but the arcade mode (with AI BOTS) was quite pleasing for me--took along time for all Gold/Platium medals. Felt that enemy AI was quite challenging but the friendly AI needed a bit of work.
Biggest problem lies with the auto-centering of your crosshairs--I HATE THAT. Pefer doing it all manual with the c-stick and there wasn't an option for that.
As for MP, yup--this is where the game shines, alot of modes and unlockables and the best part is the co-op play . Gotta love good ole co-op.
If you haveXbox/PS2 and a 1/2 dozen+ friends you might consider their versions since it supports lan play up to 16 players while the GC only has 4 players spilt screen.

FPS don't appeal to me. I bought this game after playing metroid prime, and was hoping for a similar experience...nope, metroid is much different and very special.
\EDIT: nevermind. I will sell it on ebay, I didn't think it was approriate to offer the game here.

I dont suck at making maps.. Im actually very good. IT is YOU who is just unaware of true FPS editors and have only used silly console editors like the one in TS2. all you can do is place big empty rooms and put nothing in them but like 1 crate. it really was a waste of time to even put that editor in the game. Using that time they could of implimented a lan mode or some more levels or something else.

I'm unaware because i disagree with your comment? I'm just saying they're not worthless, and i make them very well, and me and my friends have fun with them. Where did i say its the most complete FPS editor available? You can do more than a 'decorated box'. I just dont agree its that limited.

timesplitters 2 is as good as a hot girl running into your room ripping off your pants and giving you oral pleasure. Ok not quite that good...but almost.
does that answer your question?

Timesplitters 2 is like a love letter to fans to of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. It's one of those games that just throws in everything imaginable and gives the player so much to do. The storymode isn't perfect but it's still pretty fun. The storyline is crap and is just used as an excuse to let you play in multiple unrelated settings. But that's okay because the variety of the levels is fun. It's kind of like a greatest hits where they took one level from several FPS games. It's a bunch of levels designed with gameplay in mind. The game is designed first, story second.
The multiplayer is the real meat of the game and they just let you customize anything. Sure I may never use everything but I'm glad it's there. Regardless of how poor the level design editor is at least they threw it in. It's an option and that's what TS 2 shines in. The multiplayer matches are insanely fast and intense. My friends and I have to stop to catch our breath after every match.
Timesplitters 2 is the Super Smash Bros Melee of console first person shooters.

just set the controls so you aim with the regular analog... the controls are all customizable. can't you make your own story campaigns with the map editor??? and someone said the AI is retarded... i guess they don't play on the hard difficulty settings.... it's not retarded

Not at all. The graphics are above average, but the framerate is top notch. Even in 4 player.

Personally I thought the game sucked. The aiming is awful and I didn't like the graphics either, or anything else about the game. Pretty much thought the play control was terrible and it doesn't compare to ge/pd in my opinion, it's just a cheap imitation. And there's no blood which takes the fun out of shooting anyone. I don't know how you could go from playing pd to playing this and be happy, pd is superior in every way. Most people seem to think it's great though so you should try it out definitely.

I like it better than PD because i can play 4 players without ruining my eyesight. Of course, Goldeneye rules all, bad framerates and all. Its just a great game. Its made by some of the same people who made GE/PD, so its not a cheap imitation. What is wrong with the play control? Besides the aiming, which always seems a tad off, the rest of the play mechanics are spot on.

I was just used to being able to hold down L or R and aim all around and you can't do that you gotta like move the c stick and and walk a certain direction just to aim somewhere and I found this quite annoying and impractical, plus walking around just seemed kind of herky jerky like the screen would bump up slightly then bump up down when you stop which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. The guns and character models seemed kinda cartoony which I don't like either. That's as good an explantion I can give as to why I don't like it. Pd really slows down on the villa level on co-op but besides that I never thought the framerate was a problem.

In 4 player its very hard on the eyes. 2 player is pretty good though. Don't get me wrong, i played PD to death, i just put it 3rd after GE and TS2.
