Title: Platinum Waverbird for U.S. on Wednesday?!
Post by: swimguy228 on November 15, 2003, 03:12:25 PM
I was looking through the Best Buy advertisements and it showed that the platinum wavebird was to be available on Wednesday. I found this quite odd as Nintendo has not made any anouncments on a platinum wavebird for the U.S. as far as I know. Has anyone else seen this ad or know if this is true?

They made the announcement a little while ago, at least they released the info to IGN and other gaming sites. And don't believe the ad. I have been to FYE and Wal-Mart and they already have plenty of platinum wavebirds for sale. So if you really want to grab one start calling around because they can be found. It looks pretty sweet hooked up to a platinum cube!!!

Man do I feel stupid now. I can't believe I missed out on this, considering I do my ring of site-checking every day.
I'll probably pick one up when I get Mario Kart on Monday. It should look sweet with my Q.

*sniff*
And I just bought a standard Wavebird about a month ago. Ah well, I still think it's cool, and I probably wouldn't have waited anyways.

Eh, I've already got a standard WaveBird, but I'll get one eventually to match the platinum cube I'll be getting later this month. I plan to mod the platinum cube with a blue light instead of the orange one... I wonder if it would be possible to put a blue light in the Wavebird as well...?

josh, I have actually been thinking of replacing the LED in my Black GCN with a purple one. I imagine that both the GCN and the Wavebird just use LEDs to supply their light, which means that you need to bust out the soldering iron, but should be reasonably easy to do.

Yah should be easy to do. And then you could tell your wave birds apart. Right now I am using the ol' masking tape with the letter 'b' written on it to tell them apart.

yeah, i'd like a black one. its kind of strange how nintendo ignored the two launch colors when making their choices.

Oh, hell, I'm not going to be doing this myself. I know a guy who does customization of systems on a pretty regular basis. One of my friends, Joe, uses him all the time to mod his system. His current project is "Project Saturn" which is to totally customize a Sega Saturn to play any region game and covered with LED lights that move in a "Knight Rider" like pattern. I won't be going in THAT extreme of a position, but I think blue lights on both the Cube and the Bird would be pretty nifty. When I finally get around to it, I'll post a picture or two. ^_^
