Title: Official news on the Zelda bonus disc
Post by: Round Eye on November 04, 2003, 09:24:56 AM
http://www.nintendo.com/zeldaclassic/
You have to try the link a few times before it will go through it seems.
Looks like those who buy the 2 games get a bit of a head start on the disc, Nov 11 versus Nov 17 for those who subscribe.

Gah, setting up an account on Nintendo.com is a nightmare- I kept getting crazy error messages, telling me to change all sorts of fields, and then it tells me they already have my username/screenname/email address on record, and I have no idea which combination was the one that went through. So confusing!

put 666 in your username and you'll be just fine.

If you forgot your password(like I did while logging in a couple minutes ago), just put in your email address and they will send you a new temporary username and password...

That's what I did, Bill, and it worked, but I was seriously confused there for a while.

So, all I have to do is buy 1080 and Mario Kart, then tell Nintendo I bought them and I get the Zelda disc? I wonder if I ever registered my Cube...
BTW, did anyone else notice they called WW "Wind Walker"?

nintendo is really starting to piss me off. why cant we get this disc without having to buy something else? why cant they just sell the disc alone at a discounted price? screw the people who already bought a gamecube, lets make them buy more! i hope retailers sell this disc against nintendos wishes, that way i'll actually be able to get the thing.

Jeez, Cap. I'd bet these are games that you had planned on buying regardless of whether or not the disk came with 'em. They don't HAVE to give us this disk. It's not a demo and it has some 4 games on it.

actually i wasnt planning on buying any of those games this christmas. no, not even mario kart. they arent "giving" away anything. only if you buy the dollar equivilant of a new gamecube in games do you get the disc. why not just sell it for $20 or something? they could still "give" the game away to the people who bought two of those games.
this coupled with nintendos handling of demo discs is really starting to irritate me.

The people complaining need to keep in mind that Nintendo could get away with selling this thing in stores for $50. We all know there are a lot of people willing to pay that much and more for this thing. So, considering that, I think this is REALLY generous. We're talking about getting three (maybe four, depending on what you think of AoL) of the greatest games of all time for very little effort. If you want, you can just subscribe to NP, get your disc, and burn all the magazines that come afterwards. That's still getting it for a really generous price.

Why do you expect them to just give it to you. They don't owe you, or any of us, anything. Just my 2 cents.

I think they mean more that Nintendo should make it more accessible- like Michael said, people would gladly pay some $50 for it, they just don't to have to go through a lot of BS (like registering games) to get it.

"Why do you expect them to just give it to you. They don't owe you, or any of us, anything."
Sure they owe me. I'm a loyal customer who has supported the Gamecube from the beginning. I think I should be able to purchase every North American Gamecube game without much hassle. Making your fans run through hoops to get something that appeals almost exclusively to hardcore fans isn't exactly great costumer service.

How much is a years subscription to NP? Twenty dollars? That seems like a pretty hassle free way to get the disc, and you get Nintendo's magazine in addition. I may actually do that instead of registering my Cube and Games.

The subscription thing is a great idea. I ordered my subscription (w/ free Paper Mario 2 disc soundtrack) a few weeks after the Smash Bros. Orchestra CD issue came out (vol. 164), but I was only scheduled to get the following issue. So, I emailed Nintendo and asked them if I could get the previous issue with the CD, and they GENEROUSLY shifted my subscription back one month, and sent me vol. 164 with the Smash Bros. Orchestra CD (cuz they had some left). I'll never delete the email that said they'll give me the CD.
At the present, my subscription is going to end the same month the Zelda Collection is officially offered, which I will gladly renew to get the bonus disc. Perfect timing.

A couple things to keep in mind here. Number one is that it will probably still remain as a bonus item for future games you register, which means you're not limited to the four they listed. Second, is again the Nintendo Power subscription deal, which has been done for ages. They're always giving out cool crap you can't get any other way. And finally, if you're really that against getting it free when you buy something else, you can wait until EB and the like start stocking the used copies like they did with the last Zelda bonus disc.

That's what I was thinking about doing, but I am eventually going to get at least two of those games (most likely Mario Kart and Mario and Luigi), and I don't really want to waste $20 now, especially since I don't have a lot of money.

what is the date that you can register the games and receive the disk, or order the mag and get it?
now or in a few weeks?

I thought about doing this earlier, and since people are asking questions that are already answered, let's move this discussion to the Talkback thread.
