According to Gamespot, Nintendo has a 37% market share from 19%. Those price cuts, plus MK DD will make this holiday season very interesting. GAMECUBE NEWS

Of course, we all know that Nintendo is really laughing at all these new consumers because they secretly implanted a bug that will totally destroy their system. And they also know about that giant conspiracy going on with towels that contain some sort of material that damages GameCubes. It's all a huge underlying conspiracy!
/sarcasm
Right...enough of that.

37% seems ridiculously high. I mean, doesn't the GBA/SP already own like half the market. How much market share does Nintendo have in all?

The sales increase is from August, to October. In August the GC marketshare was 19% and Nintendo are saying its increased to 37% in the month of October.
Ok, so Nintendo said that sales quadrupled since the price cut. The price cut started the last week of September, so before the pricecut, sales were 100,000, in August. If they really have quadrupled in October, and the GameCube has 37% marketshare then sales should look like:
Wow, so GameCube is outselling Xbox finally. I bet that more GameCubes will be sold in Novemeber and December than Xbox's, and i'll go out on a limb and say even more than PS2. GC is doing much better than i expected, and Mario Kart isnt even out yet! Watch sales go BOOM when Mario Kart is released, i predict over 2 million GameCubes will be sold during November and December. Well done Nintendo.
*GBA doesnt factor in the marketshare

Your estimates are pretty impressive. The one question I have about them is how you allocated the market share reduction of the PS2 and XBox? You took 10% of the PS2 marketshare and 3% off the XBox. Do you have a source for this? That 3% figure for the XBox that GameStop mentions is a yearly figure, not for the month. So, the XBox may be hurting even worse than your figures would indicate. I'll be interested to see how these increased hardware sales have affected the Gamecube's software sales.
I seem to be having flashbacks to 2002. XBox, using the strength of its two free games campaign, absolutely whipped the Gamecube during the Christmas period. This time around, it looks like Nintendo is going to smash Microsoft by lowering the price point to $99. It's too bad that Metal Gear and Final Fantasy got delayed, or else Nintendo would have really had a strong holiday season.

Well the GCN marketshare has to be 37%, which would most likely mean a drop in both PS2 and XBOX marketshare. I just took an educated guess on what the marketshare of PS2 compared to Xbox would be, assuming PS2 marketshare for October was down 10% since September, which i think i read somewhere. But your right, all the numbers do seem a bit high, ill try another way.
Nintendo said they sold 4 times the number of GameCube straight after the pricecut. Soooo
Adds up to 166,250 (TRST number = 165,000, close enough). Nintendo said October sustained these numbers, so that would mean in October (October is a four week NPD TRST month) would look something like this:
Total 280,000. Sounds a bit more reasonable doesnt it? But, the increase has been by at least four times the amount, so that probably means more GCs were sold than that, but there is no factual evidence i can manipulate into that, so 4 times will have to do. Now, assuming 280,000 Nintendo GameCubes were sold in October, and Nintendo GameCube had a 37% marketshare that month:
PS2 334,000 GCN 280,000 XBX 172,000
Another thing, im not taking into account the increases/decreases over the year, just from the past month(s).

I would say its obvious that this is the best decision that nintendo could have made. Not to mention it has some big name titles coming out over the next two months. Its good to see nintendo doing this well.

True, but I still don't see that as "falling hard"- Metal Gear or no, Nintendo's still going to do great this holiday season. It's just that they could've done BETTER (a lot better).

I predict Mario Kart to push GC sales above PS2s, at least temporarily.

Weird... I edited my post, and it re-replied. I wonder how I did that. (BTW, am I the only one annoyed by the One Minute rule between EDITING your post? I can understand the rule in regards to new posts, though)

Crono,
Sony doesn't need to drop its price, and not even Microsoft can afford another ~45% loss on each XBox (well, they could technically afford it, but it would do more bad than good).
