Title: Episode 702: More Crane Than Kick, You Might Say

Age takes us all.

It's the Game Awards, the annual commercial masquerading as an award show. Capcom had some arcade stuff, and the return of Sir Arthur, but mostly we talk Sephiroth.

After that, we have some limited New Business. Gui is playing Burnout Paradise, but isn't quite as taken with it as he is other Burnout games. He's also fallen into the Hades hole. Welcome. Jon is living the past in the modern day with NHL 94 Rewind and he's also playing Dragon Quest XI S, which he insists isn't "anime." He is outrageously wrong.

After the break we answer two emails: why don't console manufacturers talk more about their backwards compatibility options, and what impact the simmering disagreements between Nintendo and their Smash community have. You can ask us to resolve your conflicts here.

"More Crane Than Kick, You Might Say". Jon dispenses wisdom for free that others charge dearly for. I really liked his talk about open-world games and their tendency to throw a thousand things at you. Like Jon, I have a completionist streak, but so many games these days are like some college professors. They think they're the only game/class you're playing/taking. Not every game needs to be 200 hours to have a fully realized world. Since most people don't even see the ending of a game, I wonder how many people bother to complete all the various side-quests,etc.

I completed Horizon Zero Dawn. I loved the game, but there was a point about two-thirds of the way through where I was wondering when it was going to end. The last of the game picked up and I ended the game with a good feeling, but it could have stood to have been streamlined a bit more.

Jon guessing what the announced Smash character was: Not just changing the rules, but changing the game mid-game. Like a boss!
