Title: Final Fantasy VII Sequel? looks like it could be
Post by: MysticGohan24 on October 20, 2003, 10:49:26 AM
There's an intresting Q & A over at gamespot.com that they asked the guy who's behind Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and KOA II and aswell helping with FFVII: Advent Children. ( He also did FFVII game )
But it's the last part that really intrest me.
DPM: Are there any chances for a FFVII sequel to be developed as a game after the release of Advent Children?
TN: I hope that this project may lead to something, since we woke up something that was sleeping.
I wonder.............?

Official word is "There is no sequel!". Maybe they will make one later, after seeing how the fans want more of 7 and less of the rest.

Final Fantasy 7 was terrible be glad that you don't remember it. I hate how this games is the most recognized in the series when its mediocre at best. I mean the game features a terrible story with more plot holes than swiss cheese and it gets critical acclaim. Don't get me started on the horrendous materia system and how it ruined the games gameplay. If they did anything with Final Fantasy 7 they just need to completely revamp the game period. I could go on but I digress..

IMO, Advent Children should not have been even thought of...Leave it to Square to totally screw up my vision for what happened afterward
Now I'll take my leave with an ambiguous quote

Sorry, kids. Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is a DVD movie, and not a game.
I repeat ... Advent Children is NOT a game.

I know that Rick, but it's that little piece at the end of Q&A that makes it sound like a game could take place after the movie.
If they could that is, anything is possible. I guess it depends on the reaction of the fans and how well the dvd movie performs.

Yes, but it was on PlayStation. It was 3D, it had fantastic FMV and it was the first ever Final Fantasy game to be released in Europe (I don't count Mystic Quest Legend -_-)
That's why it's most reconized.

even if there was going to be a sequal, what reason do we have to believe it would ever come to the gamecube? the gamecube hasnt even recieved a single title yet from square(in north america anyways), and as far as i know no more are planned. it would probably be on the ps2 anyways.

Who knows in this crazy world we live in. If it did ever come to be, it could be released on both PS2 and GC. Or maybe it could be a PSP or GBA exclusive. *Shrugs shoulders for hours*

I believe there is a really good chance that a sequel game could be made. I mean think about it, why would Square release a sequel to VII (the biggest seller of the series I might add) now and on DVD format. Several people from Square have already stated that creating a whole new engine for Final Fantasy VII sequel was a waste of money. Perhaps they are not confident that the fan base is big enough. Think about it, releasing a DVD movie is a lot cheaper than making a brand new game. They release it next year to the world and see if people still love Final Fantasy VII. If there is a market, which I know without a doubt there is, then they'll invest money in to making a game. Another thought, is that Advent Children takes place two years after the end of the original game. Perhaps a sequel game could connect the movie to the game even more and let us see the event in between.

Do you really think that Nintendo has a shot at any possible Final Fantasy VII sequel? I don't think that we will. We'll be stuck with Final Fantasy "wanna be's" for a while.
We'll probably not even get another Final Fantasy game on the Gamecube, unless it's Final Fantasy :Crystal Chronicles 2.

We aren't getting a FFVII sequel...That's because I doubt there will ever be a FFVII sequel...

Like I said in another thread, if Nintendo ever gets the main FF series back on its console, it's going to be with a FF7 remake. It's the most popular in the series. If you don't think so, just remember who won Gamefaq's last character battle. The very fact that so many people are still clamoring for a sequel just shows how popular it is. It's the Ocarina of Time for the casual gamers.
Also, I think Nintendo's been trying to acquire the "Playstation Triforce"; the 3 biggest PSX games that made people leave Nintendo for Sony.
Resident Evil: Check
Metal Gear Solid: Check
Final Fantasy 7: ...we'll see
My personal feelings aside for FF7, I would still be very excited to see it on the Gamcube. At the very least, it would give a tremendous boost to the system. Also, unlike movies, videogame remakes are ALWAYS better than the original, so hopefully any major gameplay flaws would be fixed.
I at least expect something big from Square to be announced for the GCN. I just can't imagine Yammy paying Square, his bitter enemy, to just get a handfull of half-hearted support.

LOL What a way to support your view. Why is it the best ever in your view? I've played every Final Fantasy game ever made. FF7 is one of the worst in the series. It was a dumbed down version of Final Fantasy with a dumber plot and a huge ad campaign in the US and Europe that resulted in its high sales. Even most of the game mags had to admit the game was vastly overrated. I said it when forced my self to finish that putrid garbage and I'll say it again. I wouldn't wipe my @$$ with FF7 if the world ran out of trees and the only alternative to toilet paper was poison ivy.

Darc Requiem, so if you hate VII so much, what is your favorite Final Fantasy game and why?

I place my bets on 6. BTW, they should remake THAT. As in "real remake", not just adding a sequence to the front and aft.

Oh god, most people enjoyed ff7, that means it was bad. Ok, for the last friggin time, games are not just artistic but they are...get this...fun. People need to just shut their stupid mouths. If someone had fun with it, good for them. It is so idiotic to get angry over someone having fun. Just kick your gamecube and give it to a friend if that sort of thing makes you mad, because you shouldn't be playing.

Wow thats a hard choice. There are so many good ones to choose from. I mean Final Fantasy 3 was excellent. It was the first Final Fantasy game to feature the jobs system. When I first played Final Fantasy 5, I felt it was an upgrade to Final Fantasy 3. So Final Fantasy 3 is definately my favorite NES Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy 1 was cool because it was a lot deeper than Dragon Warrior but no 8 bit RPG can touch Phantasy Star 1, hell most 16-bit RPGs cant but thats another post.
I know most people love Final Fantasy 6 the best. I like game a lot but I always preferred Final Fantasy 4. It wasn't as pretty as Final Fantasy 6, it was more linear, simpler, but the there was something about the characters. Cecil, Kain, Golbeze, Rosa, Rydia, Yang, Edge, etc. Final Fantasy 4 is definately my favorite Final Fantasy on SNES. I guess its my favorite Final Fantasy of all time. I loved the story, the characters, the gameplay, the only downside was the linear story but it was a great story so it was forgiveable. A sequel to FF4, that explained what happened to Golbeze, Fu Soy Ya, and the rest of the Lunarians would be great but it won't happen. Final Fantasy 5 was good, and very difficult but it was so much like Final Fantasy 3. As for why I prefer Final Fantasy 4 to Final Fantasy 6? Honestly I think Final Fantasy 6 is the better game up until the World of Ruin. The game seemed to lose its magic after that point. Outside of few bright spots like Shadow and Cyan's past....it just was fun anymore. I found myself starting my quest over after the World of Balance ended after I beat Final Fantasy 6 a few times.
As far as the 32 bit era goes. Final Fantasy went into the toilet IMO. Final Fantasy 7 was terrible in every way IMO and made me look on Mystic Quest look good. Final Fantasy 8 was worse it was the only Final Fantasy game that I couldnt make myself complete. The plot line was more nonsensical that Final Fantasy 7 which didn't even seem plausible to me at time. At least the card mini-game was fun. Final Fantasy 9 was an okay game. I thought it was better than it was but looking back I realize that Final Fantasy 9 seemed to good to me because 7 and 8 were terrible. The only thing I do like about this era is because Sony actually advertised them, they sold well enough to cause other companies to bring there RPGs to the US.
