Title: Which Art style do you prefer? Xenogears or FF 7/9

Xenogears = A polygonal world overlaid with pre-drawn sprite characters

Final Fantasy 7/9 = A pre-drawn world (background) overlaid with polygonal characters.




ME:
I prefer the FF7/9 look. It's more artistic with greater detailed environments to wander around in.

That really depends on what you are talking about.  Are we talking about the games running on a good PC, or on their original systems?  Xenogears simply kicked FF7 square in the nuts in the graphics department when running on a good PC, but on the original consoles, I would have to give FF7 the trophy.

i will only say xenogears for the fact that i am a xenogears whore- man i love that game!

Awww bloody hell.  RPGLover is right.  Xenogears kicks FF7 square in the nuts any way you wanna cut it.

I didn't get to play too much of FF7 sooo I can't compare too well.  But I'm still making my way thru xenogears.  

ILOVE the graphical style in xenogears!  And the anime cut scenes...*drools*  The only thing that bothers me is the camera, but that has nothing to do with styles.

I don't know about graphics, though.  I consider style and graphics two very different things.  Style would be the difference between OoT and WW. obviously, the cel-shaded graphics make for a different style.  but at their time, and for their style, they both had (have) astounding graphics.

Eh, I'm not a huge fan of either.  I like either polygonal characters in a polygonal environment, or pre-drawn characters in a pre-drawn environment.  Pre-rendered backgrounds in games like FF7 annoy me - Find it difficult to see.  Sprites in 3D usually annoy me, too.  The exception is Paper Mario, whose graphics seem to work quite well and are consistent somehow.  mmm.. Paper Mario.  Oh yeah, and FF Tactics too - but that's not as noticable because the sprites aren't moving as much.

Realism vrs cartoony.  I perfer the cartoony look myself--just because "real life sucks".

I want to be able to adjust my perspective, that's why I hate prerendered backgrounds. I can identify with a character more closely if the view is pretty close to him/her. Comes closer to seeing through the char's eyes without sacrificing overview in ther process.
Adjustment of perspective also lets you see every corner of your surroundings and allows for better depth perception (I have none in reallife, I can only measure depth by moving my head a little).
