Title: "This page does not support your browser"-error
Post by: JB on October 14, 2003, 01:34:27 AM
When I visited PGC today, an irritating JavaScript alert popped-up saying "This page does not support your browser. A browser version 4.0 or higher is required!". If I click this alert away it comes back within a second, making it impossible for me to read or click on anything on the main site. This does not happen when I visit the forums. I am using Mozilla 1.5 RC1(Windows version) at the moment, which has been working perfectly on the PGC site ever since it was released. Why is this happening?

I get exactly the same error with Mozilla Firebird 0.7.

I think it may be one of the ad servers. Look at the status bar and notice what resource continually tries to load...

Long live Mozilla!

The URL that Mozilla is trying to load seems to be http://main.digitalagemedia.net/scripts2/ads.php?id=19&cat=6 but I can't see anything if I enter the address directly into Mozilla or even IE(which I am only using to find out the cause of this problem).  It seems to be the advertisement on the top-right of the main page, which doesn't even load in IE anyway.

Can somebody from PGC do anything about this? It is impossible for me to visit the main site while this ad is on the site.

Yeah, i'm using Mozilla Firebird 0.6 and i'm having problems accessing the site. The pop up does keep on coming back and just does not stop, which made it hard to access this site and use others in other tabs.

I just started using Firebird, and am having the same problem.  Hitting the stop button works sometimes, but you have to be quick enough to hit it between messages.

I've noticed more and more websites are getting around Mozilla's ability to block popups and selectively block images. This appears to be an annoying version of that. Or it could be bad programming.

Pressing stop seems to work for me. I'll have to cut down on my PGC visitation today. =(

It's not really a pop-up, it is an alert window. At the moment Mozilla doesn't have any option to block alert windows. What version of Mozilla are you using Fammy2000????

I've pulled the code until we get a resolution.  FWIW, we didn't ad the code ourselves ... one of the ad providers changed it.

Steps to take if an ad annoys you:
1. Disable Plugins and Java/Script. Or, if that causes too much trouble with the rest of the site:
2. Add the servername to your "hosts" file, resolving to 127.0.0.1 (localhost).

I have Firebird 6.1+ (some nightly build for a while back). I wasn't referring to blocking JS popups, just popups/images in general. Sorry to get slightly off topic. =)

Thanks Rick!!!! As far as I can tell, the ads weren't even working in Internet Explorer 6.0, even though they didn't cause alerts.
