Title: PS2 drops to 99.99$?
Post by: Fish on October 10, 2003, 06:42:23 AM
According to GC Advanced, They know some Dude in Target who found out Sony is going to drop PS2 price to 99.99 next month, not exactly the most reliable source, but stranger things have happened.

Sony doesn't have to do anything now. They are still selling PS2's pretty fast so they don't need to do this. I hope they do.  Castlevania looks very nice. .)

I know dudes from Target to. If they could know any less about everything I'd be surprised. Besides, Sony has been clawing for money (i.e. the PlayComputerStation 2)

Sony doesn't need to lower their price to 99. If sony did M$ would follow suit. Thier winning this generation by 30 million consoles?

Hmm lets think about this. Gamecube has outsold it for what a week? It still can hold its own at the higher price.

I'd wager that Target would just be trying to out-guess the console companies as per usual. GameStop and alla them had $150 PS2 and XBOX banners printed up at e3, and boy golly were those useless when they only dropped to 180.

Last month, Playstation Magazine said it would drop to $150 by the time that magazine hit newstands.  Interesting isn't it?

Sony's still losing money selling the PS2 at $180, right? I really doubt they'd want to lose even more money cutting the price almost in half. Nintendo could afford it, and it's really paying off.

Even at $99, it would still be overpriced

Yay? They're only doing it because GCN has started to outsell it.

I don't think Sony cares.  They are ~40 million consoles ahead of either the Cube or the Box.  Even if the Cube sold at #1 for the next two years, they'd never catch up and remove the "most sold 128-bit console" award from the PS2.

Anyway, I predict that Sony will drop the price to ~$150 just before Christmas.  They don't need to go any lower.

Well about the PS2 price cut,its may be possible because Sony has now been able to shrink and combine the EE and GS into a single processor utilizing a 0.09micron technology. It runs at less than 1/3 the power needed for current PS2 batches with less heat as well.

wait... PS2 for 99 = low enough that I could pay 200 on DDR pads and then I'd be able to DDR in style
*drools*
I don't want Donkey Konga, I want good ol' DDR!!
Drop the price sony, Its the only physical work I'll ever do.
