Title: Just how good is Disgaea?
Post by: S-U-P-E-R on September 30, 2003, 10:30:57 PM
I'm thinking about buying this one, I dunno, I'll rent it if I can find a place that has it (and some free time). I mean, typically, I loathe most rpgs (usually because they are too easy for me), but this looks wacky and fun and unique. How challenging is it? How wacky and fast paced is it? Did I even spell the name right?

well if you liked final fantasy tactics you will be right at home with disgaea- i havent put much playing time into the game so far but from what i have played it is a blast- the story is pretty interesting to say the least with lots of comedy thrown in for good measure- the gameplay is fast and is fun as well- but as i have said- you should like tactics games if you really want to sit down with this one- if you were a fan of ff tactics or tactics ogre than you will definately like this game- rent it and give it a shot

I've never played those other ones because I am a weirdo. I've thoroughly enjoyed Fallout Tactics and the other Fallout games, and Advance Wars if those are relevant.

i would say that advance wars is a decent indication on what you would see combat wise- but the game is still an rpg at heart- although the battle system is in the same vien of a strategy game like advance wars- it deals with all of the same things as a regular rpg does- character developement (with experience points and all) equipment and new weapons and things of that nature- basically for the battle system, you place characters onto the battle field and you must usually defeat all the enemies- basically you control your character's movement to where they will go on a grid based system (like advanced wars) and you must get them near the enemy- when the enemy is in range, you can choose to attack or magic use (like in an rpg) and that task will be carried out to the enemy- basically advance wars is a watered down version of what a real strategy rpg is- hopefully this helps you a little

Yeah, a conversation with some of my coworkers (and the claims of much lolling) has finally convinced me to get it. It may have to wait until payday, though, I tied up most all of my money in a savings account. Not that that's a bad thing, though...
