Title: Metal Gear Solid 3 Theories
Post by: Solid[Snake] on September 27, 2003, 08:03:56 AM
A lot of people have been saying that they think you play as Big Boss in MGS3. I happen to think that you play as Ocelot, and I'll tell you why:
1. The game takes place in Russia in the 1960's (according to images from the trailer), the height of the Cold War. This could explain some storylines for Ocelot. Ocelot quote from MGS2: Ocelot: "Mother Russia can ROT for all I care." Gurlukovich: "When did you turn?" Ocelot: "I abandoned her during the Cold War."
2. The character looks like Snake. Ocelot could be another project of Les Enfants Terribles, maybe the original clone, or maybe a son of Big Boss. Here's why: Ocelot has Liquid Snake's arm attached to him in MGS2. How else could Ocelot's body accept this arm, unless they had similar genetic information?
3. The Snake in MGS3 looks younger than Snake in MGS2. Since MGS3 takes place in the 60's, assuming the Snake in MGS3 is 20-30 years old, that would make Ocelot the age he is now.
4. MGS2's cliffhanger has to do with the patriots, and Ocelot is working for them, as far as we know.
5. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. An ocelot (small tiger/large cat) in the wild eats snakes.
Plus, I think that MGS3 will do a Godfather Pt. II kind of storyline, switching from the 60's era to the present day (2010?) era of MGS.
Any thoughts/theories?

LOL
Ocelot != Snake
Big Boss == Snake, since Snake was a clone of Big Boss
Basically, I think I would know if that was Ocelot in that trailer. Besides, the person in that trailer had some damage to his right eye, and there were a whole lot of hints in the press pamphlet that it just wasn't Snake.

I would agree that the Snake in MGS3 is Big Boss, except for the fact that Kojima wouldn't give so many hints unless it wasn't true. If you've ever played MGS or MGS2, you'll know that Kojima loves playing mind games with his audience (i.e. Psycho Mantis [MGS1] and every plot twist in MGS2). That's why I think theories for MGS3 require a little more than superficial observation.

The fact that Snake is a clone of Big Boss and the character's bad eye kind of proves that it's Big Boss(basically what Grey said)
(And the ocelot is native to South America, not Asia )

There's a difference between a theory and wild stabbing in the dark. I mean... sure you do have some stuff to back up your idea, but there's a hell of a lot more to disprove it. The main thing being that Ocelot looks different than Snake... acts differently... has a different voice... and a different build.
The thing is that Kojima IS fscking with us by doing this. The hints in the pamphlet were very subtle, and from the action on the screen, you would have no idea that it wasn't Snake you were watching.
Kojima screwed up BIG with MGS2, and I don't think he wants to repeat that. He tossed in a new character as the main character, and everyone hated him. Most gamers felt cheated when they went to play MGS2, and were forced to play as one of the gaming characters ever. By letting us know ahead of time this time, he is giving us time to warm up to the idea, and to learn to trust him again.
The trailer did wonders for my faith in the man. MGS2 was a letdown of collossal proportions, and I strangely feel compelled to trust him again. I remember when MGS2 came out, I went into the store and stared at the cover for a good 5 minutes. When I actually played the game, I feel like spitting on the cover whenever I see it. But you know what? I am sure I will be there staring again when MGS3 comes out.

>>"The main thing being that Ocelot looks different than Snake... acts differently... has a different voice... and a different build."<<
I would say that Liquid has a much different voice than Snake, wouldn't you? I would also say that Solidus had a different build then Snake, wouldn't you? Also, I speculated on the fact that Ocelot could have been a child of Big Boss, not necessarily a clone.
>>The hints in the pamphlet were very subtle, and from the action on the screen, you would have no idea that it wasn't Snake you were watching.<<
Very subtle? They flashed '1960's' all over the place! Unless Snake is going back through time (and let's pray he isn't), it was plainly obvious this isn't the same Snake. The allusions to it being Big Boss are TOO obvious.
Listen, I'm just speculating. I just thought it would be a cool thing to do with the story. I would rather be surprised by the storyline than have Snake end up being Big Boss. Wouldn't you?
