Title: Twin Snakes Delay?
Post by: Jonnyboy117 on September 26, 2003, 09:56:19 PM
Nintendo's official website says so.

Nintendo of America's official website now lists a Q1 2004 release date for Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes.  The game was previously expected to come out before the end of the year in North America.

Nintendo.com does occasionally contain errors, though we doubt it's the case here.  However, PGC will be checking up on this story with Konami and Silicon Knights for confirmation and further information.

Props to Gumby at the GA Forums for spotting this one.

Update: PGC reader General Oniram pointed us to further confirmation of this report.  At Konami's official Twin Snakes website, the Staff page says "Early 2004" at the bottom.

That's alright really. It leaves me more money to buy Mario Kart and games I never really wanted to buy because MGS:TT and Final Fantasy and Pikmin 2 would of made me buy.

Now that means more sales because I will be buying Viewtiful Joe and probably 1080 Avalanch considering it uses LAN which means I will be tunneling it

Nintendo REALLY needed to have gotten this game out for Christmas- we all know the January/February time isn't a good one for games, so I hope Nintendo isn't surprised when it doesn't sell.

The main problem I see is in Nintendo losing a Mature title for the holidays.  Probably the best replacement they've got is True Crime, which is multiplatform and not nearly as high-profile as MGS (though it looks like it will be a great game in its own right).

Typical, it is Silicon Knights afterall.

I think this was planned...Halo 2 comes out the week after Twin Snake's new date.

Its odd. It stings on one hand, because what better way to get people on the 'Cube for $99 and a Metal Gear Solid game to go with it. Its a one-two knockout baby!

On the other hand, it was kind of expected, they didn't set the release date in stone. Winter is indeed a somewhat long season; it seems they want to repeat the 'March Rush' of this year.

True Crime does seem the way to go as far as a 'mature' title is concerned, for those whining and moaning how the 'Cube doesn't get GTA-esque games, here you go. Scoop it up and enjoy!

But True Crime is a multiplatform game, so it's not like anyone's gonig to be buying a Gamecube this winter because of it. Twin Snakes is an exclusive remake of a very popular game, which would have given people incentive to pick up a Cube come Christmas time- a $50 price drop alone isn't going to do that.

And Halo 2 is due out a week later? I'm all for cutting into it's sales, but Twin Snakes isn't the game to do it. I really don't want Silicon Knights to have the same problem that Rare did- taking forever to develop a game that barely sells at all.

The only way to beat a mature title is to release an equally mature title to try and get the older gamers to buy your game...It's the perfect strategy...

Honestly, though, which do you expect to sell better- the sequel to one of the most popular console games ever, pretty much the only reason people even bought an XBox, or a remake of a four and a half year old game? Sure it'll eat into Halo 2's sales, but nowhere near as much as Halo 2 will eat into ITS sales. I'd rather Twin Snakes be released without competition so it can sell as well as it should.

I wouldn't consider either games as having a solid release date as of yet, so all this talk is a bit premature.  There's still plenty of space in "early 2004" for both.

And by the way, I wouldn't consider a year and a half "forever" on SK's part, they simply need to grow a bit more so they can give more resources to multiple projects at the same time.
