Title: F Zero GX VS XGRA
Post by: Piposan on September 22, 2003, 08:52:42 PM
I own F xero GX and i'm interested in XGRA. I know the Gamecube version is not out yet, but does anyone who owns the PS2 version along with F zero can give me an input on how both games stands against eachother? Which is faster and which gives an overall better gameplay experience?

From what I saw at E3, Xgra doesn't even come close to the speed of F-Zero.  However the title may have changed since then.  Still it looks promising, and I thought Extreme-G3 wasn't bad.
(I picked it up for $9, lol)

Well, I haven't played XGRA, but I assure you that F-Zero gives a much more frusterating NES style experience.

I just read the reviews for XGRA on PS2.IGN.com. It seems the game is much slower then F zero and it runs at 30 frames per seconds, somewhat unstable. Now Acclaim claims that XGRA is being delayed for the cube because they are still tweaking it. Well I really hope that the fix the frame rate, and perhaps even pushing it up to 60 FPS.

I haven't played GX or XGRA, but I have played AX and XG3, so i guess I'll just make my assumptions on that, since AX is similar to GX.

I played XG3, and i really liked the sleek, neon futuristic environments they had for it. I dunno. It was just cool. But it was also slow. Cause anytime you wanted to go fast, you would just bash into the wall when you came to a corner, and that's another thign about it, the handling. OMG. You couldn't do a tight turn if your life depended on it, even with the airbrakes. And since turning was a major problem, I couldn't beat the game, so I used cheats And because of that handling, my fave level was Muon Harbour - the very first level, cause one, you didn't bash any walls and hence maintained top speed (it was an oval track), and two, when you boosted until the speed of sound (very cool aspect), you could KEEP doing it. I also didn't like the weapons. They were more of an annoyance than a help. So i always played against my friends and in arcade mode with no weapons.

Phew.

AX, in conmparison, is FAST. If any of you have played it, you know what i mean. Just imagine this: XG3 is Mario Kart 64 in comparison. What i really like about AX is the handling, because one, it is spot on, and two, the air brakes can give you HAIRPIN turns, even moreso than F-Zero X's airbrakes. These sorta turns a re really needed, especially in the hardest and longest track of the game, Green Plant. No weapons and good handling means that you can concentrate on doing mach speeds and bashing into the opposition like we all do in F-Zero. Hehehe.

I look forward to XGRA, but I won't buy it unless i really like it, and that means a rental beforehand.
So thanks for reading my 8 cents.

XGRA is nothing like XG3.  It's slower (but not slow)... basically, the whole game was rebuilt from scratch.  The reviews I've been reading for the Xbox version (which will be closer to the GameCube version) are stating that the game is completely different than XG3, due to the new bike physics and more prominent weapon systems.

I've been a Extreme-G fan since day one, and I've been looking forward to this game ever since XG3 came out.  I'm going to like it no matter what (that is, I'd better like it), so this opinion might hold a little bias.

If you want competitive high-speed racing on pretty good tracks, go with F-Zero.  If you're more the Wipeout blow-stuff-up type, go with XGRA.  Of course, I'm going to have both, so it's not an issue with me, but you should at least play them both by way of rental first, before you commit to either one, or both.

Please understand that the two games are completely different, and have their own strengths and faults.  I'm going to love them both, and if someone else is torn between the two, I'm sure they'll love whichever one they wind up with.  Really can't lose.

Yep!

I enjoyed XG3 when it wasnt frustrating, but when it did, bring on the cheats!
I'll try XGRA, assuming it's not cancelled for release here in Australia, like so many other anticipated games have been.

yeah I understand that they are both different games, but i like speed. Since XGRA is actually slower then XG3 then i don't think that it delivers. The only things that really attracts me so far are the graphics. The background looks great. So i'll probably just rent XGRA.
Thanks for your input.
