I must admit that I haven't listened to a lot of Bowie, although I did grow up in the '80s. But there's one song of his which recieved a very good cover from Nirvana, which was "The Man Who Sold the World". I rather like that song, although the Nirvana cover was loads better.

Let's Dance came out when I was in 7th or 8th grade. I can't remember which, but I really did like it and still do. It's just such a departure from what he was doing up until then. I do not have his new cd but am definitely going to get it. His show should be really good. I remember seeing old concert footage from probably around the Ziggy Stardust times and he is good live. The San Jose show is my only hope of sseing him. We can get a babysitter for a late night going 2 hours away from home, but 2 days or so to go to L.A. and back isn't going to happen.

I have 'Bowie at the beeb', the live cd, and he sounds really good live, so i cant wait. I'm taking my uncle, who back in the day was telling me "forget Zeppelin and listen to this guy Bowie". Finally, i listened, 20 years later.

Note: This was when MTV was good and actually showed VIDEOS! I remember my sister and I would camp out in the living room on weekends and watch MTV all night. They would only break in at the top and bottom of the hour for commercials.

Scary Monsters is a great cd, often labeled 'the last great bowie album' . Ashes to ashes is incredible. He basically rips apart his own persona of 'Major Tom', calling him a junkie, you got to love that.
By the way, i had MTV when it debuted, and there were NO commercials-ever. I was so hooked, i used to be able to name the video before the little synopsis came on, like 5 seconds.. I was cool

You're right. I couldn't remember exactly the deal as it was so long ago. But I do remember staying up all night watching videos, and you would watch for what seemed like forever before a "veejay" would come on. It was so great. They were good about showing pretty diverse genres of music too. I remember watching "120 minutes" back then. There were some pretty cool videos. It's too bad they've clogged themselves up with all the distractions they have now. It really sucks when they think it's great to show "4 in a row". Anyway, I'll contribute to the Bowie-ness again later. I'm off to my mother-in-law's for a family lunch. *stabs out own eyes with fork so can't drive* *mother-in-law says "that's okay, i'll come pick you up"*

Yep, i do believe Beta was better, and Sony really wanted it to succeed, but they were the only ones, i guess.
Get the Labrynth DVD. It has a lot of behind the scenes stuff...its really good.

I really like the new cd. It is great and I hope to be able to get tickets when he comes here. I have also been able to rekindle my fondness for the Let's Dance phase. I really do like it. I think it just hasn't been my favorite because I was so saturated with it when that record was out. I watched MTV almost non-stop back then and they were always showing videos from that record.
The only thing I find troubling is hearing Under Pressure and not being able to get Vanilla Ice out of my head.
Edit: Uglydot, as I was looking at this thread my 2 year old walked up, saw your avatar, pointed and started yelling KIRBY!.......IT'S KIRBY MAMA!
