Title: New Zelda bonus disc
Post by: Berto2K on September 09, 2003, 02:01:47 PM
According to Billy's new home (Game Informer) they have word from their inside sources that there is going to be a new Zelda package for this holiday season that includes 4 games and a documentary. I hope that this will be able to be purchased separately.

Oh no's!  I too hope that it is sold seperately if this is true.

cool, yo.  But if it's packaged with the GC I will personally kick Nintendo in the shin.  Hard, too.

Man, oh man, oh man.  I hope this is true.  I want to play Zelda II again(since my old one won't work anymore )

This looks cool. I hope it all fits onto one GCN disc and can be purchased separately though. Most likely it will be sold like the demo disc (some stores sell it separately , some don't).

KnowsNothing that's a sweet avatar. Alf rocks!

Nintendo sure knows how to make people feel stupid for buying their stuff at launch.

Hopefully BestBuy or Gamestop will sell them seperately, and of course there is always ebay. Now all they have to do is make a Mario compilation and I will be set.

well if its true i'm pretty much positive that two of the games will be four swords and tetras trackers. i cant see nintendo releasing either of the games as a stand alone game, so a package deal makes more sense to me. unless they wasted their time developing these games to never release them.

well honestly i never bothered to clink the link so i assumed that people were just speculating what titles would be on the disc. but considering thats its only a rumour for the moment, its all speculation.

i just dont understand what nintendo is planning to do with four swords and tetras trackers. a package deal like this would be the best way to put the games out.

Finally I might get my hands on Majora's Mask(The last Zelda game that I still haven't played), and the documentary sounds interesting.

Post by: Sirmorphix on September 09, 2003, 05:27:09 PM
I was excited because for a brief minute I thought that they'd include "A link to the past"... then I remembered that capcom made the GBA version so there was no hope of seeing that on the disc.  Damn... I was pretty excited for awhile.  Still, anything that helps sell cubes has my approval.
Title: RE:New Zelda bonus disc?

I think it's almost guaranteed that TT and Four Swords will be sold on one disc at regular price.

If its Tetras Trackers and 4 Swords, then its disapointing actually.....

What the...? Why is everyone dismissing Four Swords? It looks bloody awesome. This is not just some 'crappy connectivity title', its a huge game that Nintendo are putting alot of effort into making sure is of high quality, i would be more than happy to buy Four Swords alone at full price.

yes! four swords looks absolutely stunning, i have seen several videos of it and they are all amazing, 100+ enemies on screen at once, showers of rupee's, despite the out dated LttP style graphics they seem to fit the game very very well, it has been updated a bit

...

everyone go get the game when it comes out its awsome!
Title: RE:New Zelda bonus disc?
Post by: Bill Aurion on September 09, 2003, 06:29:31 PM
The textures in Four Swords have really been upped.  LttP looks horrible compared to what Four Swords looks like now.  Of course you know there are going to be people *****ing about having to use a GBA, just like FF:CC...*sigh*

This has got to be the JUICIEST  rumor about Nintendo in a while. My mouth is simply agape....

They have to throw a bone to those who have our cubes(If the rumor holds up). They have to! If not, I'm gonna bribe a Gamestop or EBX or whoever to get that package...
Title: RE: New Zelda bonus disc?
Post by: Ian Sane on September 09, 2003, 08:09:36 PM
This is such a cool package if it's true.  Not selling it seperately would be completely retarded and would piss off the loyal fanbase huge.  So naturally Nintendo will only sell it with new Gamecubes.  I mean these are the same dipsh!ts who made it nearly impossible for existing owners to get a demo disc.  I hope they're not that dumb but Nintendo has just been so clueless lately.
Title: RE: New Zelda bonus disc?
Post by: Gibdo Master on September 09, 2003, 09:12:24 PM
The thing I find kind of weird about this is that Ocarina is amongst the titles rumored to be on this disk. Why? We just got a Ocarina bonus disk with Master Quest for pre-ordering Wind Waker. Seems kind of pointless and a waste of space. I'd rather see a Master Quest for Majora's Mask or graphically upgraded versions of LoZ and AoL than Ocarina again. The only thing that would make it reasonable to release Ocarina again is if it had upgraded graphics or something.

Either way though I really hope this ends up being true. I'll be super pissed if this will only be available for people who purchase a GC though. Grrr!!!!!!!!

All I have to say is that Billy never (not that I remember) led us wrong with rumors that he heard when he was here.  I doubt that he would change his policies on them since he is the lead over there now too.
Title: RE: New Zelda bonus disc?
Post by: Mario on September 09, 2003, 09:25:38 PM
Yeah, i trust Billy.

Billy - 1
PGC - 0
Title: RE: New Zelda bonus disc?
Post by: Grey Ninja on September 09, 2003, 09:50:36 PM
I give PGC -1 for all the server problems they have given us.
Title: RE: New Zelda bonus disc?
Post by: Gibdo Master on September 09, 2003, 10:14:03 PM
You know this rumor and the fact that Billy is always right about this stuff has me very tempted to just dump PGC and go over to Game Informer. Unless PGC starts putting out similar rumors and insider stuff I just don't see what the point is to coming here other than for the forums. Even the forums here aren't much of an edge over Game Informer because Billy will be participating in the boards over there.

Oh and the server thing has been really pissing me off too. I have cable and can just barely get on here.

It does sadden me since I've been coming here for like over 3 years or so but they just haven't been up to snuff for quite awhile.
Title: RE: New Zelda bonus disc?
Post by: Grey Ninja on September 09, 2003, 10:41:14 PM
Yeah, lousy news and a server that is barely functioning is enough reason for me to go elsewhere.  It's one thing to have technical difficulty for a few days, or even a week.  It's another thing entirely to have a server this bad for months on end.  There's no excuse for that.
Title: RE: New Zelda bonus disc?
Post by: AgentSeven on September 09, 2003, 11:19:37 PM
Oh my God, I'm going to have to agree with Mario.  I had a freakin' blast playing "Zelda:Four Swords" at E3.  As many of you know, I now have 4 GBA's, and this game is one of the reasons why.  This will be an absolutely incredible party game...

(Before anyone calls me nuts for having for GBA's, let me say this.  First I have a ton of game playing friends, inlcuding my girlfriend, and second, I got the GBA's for $20 a peice.  Not bad.  Plus I got link cables on clearance at "K-mart" for $3 a peice.)

Anyway, I hope this disk somehow inlcudes, Four Swords, Tetra's Trackers AND Majora's Mask, but that's probably too much to ask for.  It will probably be just the first two, like everyone else said.  It would be really sweet if it was all of the "old school" games however...

The news here is awesome.   Many many times has it been the first on the net with the scoop.   Yes, lately.

I very rarely have problems connecting here.  And what's with people having problems with double or triple posts?  Impatient?  Again, I've never had that problem.  Although my cable connection is rock solid that could be why.
Title: RE: New Zelda bonus disc?
Post by: nitsu niflheim on September 10, 2003, 03:33:46 AM
PGC has been having server problems since at least as far back as May.  Look at the front page of the forums, it'll say the most people online at one time was like 180 people or so in May.  The most I have seen on line at any given time has been less than 50.  If it takes me more the 5 minutes to open a link in the forums, then something is wrong.

Several times I have to refresh the page, because I swear it forgets that I am trying to open a page.

But for the bonus disk.  I if have to buy a new GCN to get it, I will, but you can rest assured Nintendo will get an earful from me.

You know you can visit BOTH sites.  It's not like you have to choose one or the other.

The Zelda documentary would be interesting, but I have access to all of the other things, so no reason to get it.

Four Swords looks very cool, and Tetra's Trackers looks okay from what I've seen, but I have no GBA, so it's a moot point.

I have to say something about "Lame Informer."  I had a subsrciption to this rag forced up me when I last visited GameStop.  It's just seems to have NO credibility whatsoever.  It seemed to me that they were always praising $ony while dumping on M$, Nintendo, and even Sega.  Especially Nintendo.  I wish that I had not thrown away all of my issues of this rag, so that I could quote some of the more offensive "articles."  Many of which were hardly newsworhty.

I'm starting to doubt this bonus disc.  If someone finds any information about this posted elsewhere, from a RELIABLE source.  Please post it.

The one thing that has pissed me off about GI is their opinion of Mario Party.  Oh wait, it's not even an opinion, more like a personal vendetta.  They probably don't even play the game, yet give it a horrible score.  Their review of Mario Party 4 was pretty funny.  In a sense it was written like so:  "The others were horrible, so this must be too.  I maybe looked at the boxart and it looked crappy, so I gave it a crappy score just like the others."

Grrrrr...
Title: RE:New Zelda bonus disc?
Post by: joshnickerson on September 10, 2003, 12:25:59 PM
Yes, the same rag who based their sole review of Eternal Darkness on an early E3 build (and gave it a D). I've only read it a few times, and each time I tossed the issue back on the rack in disgust.

Back to the bonus disc, it could very well be true. My local Wal-Mart had a special deal where you could get a Cube, link cable, Wind Waker and the OoT: Master Quest disc for $149, and it sold rather briskly. Of course, I'm betting that if this disc does come out and Nintendo says it will only be for new Gamecube owners, retailers like Target and Best Buy will be selling them for ten bucks anyway.

Well, PGC's reporting it now, and that's confirmation enough for me. I used to have a copy of AoL, but it got lost when I moved from Okinawa to Kansas and I've been yearning for another copy ever since.

One of many things to be thankful for (besides a GameCube):

The disc will not include the Philips CD-I Zelda games. I saw a few clippings from G4's Icons and I was so shocked at how bad it was it made me appreciate the movie Ishtar (a turkey of a movie starring Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty. The movie is so bad it even made Super Mario Brothers look like 'Gone With the Wind') much more.
Title: RE:New Zelda bonus disc?

1) Mario Party 4 was fun when you had friends playing it with you, hence the term "party"
2) I make 3 that says that is in no way, shape, or form the same review of ED that was in the mag.  And if you ask they probably will deny the "bad review"
3) The CD-i games were that bad.  I played one of them many years ago and was scarred.  I almost ditched the Zelda series after that, but thankfully I recovered.
Title: RE:New Zelda bonus disc?

Bill: Yo did realise that Phillips, not Nintendo, made the CD-i Zeldas, right?
Title: RE:New Zelda bonus disc?
Post by: Bill Aurion on September 11, 2003, 03:49:28 AM
Yeah, that's why I didn't ditch the Zelda series.  I eventually learned that it wasn't Ninty who made them after all(I was pretty young when I played the CD-i game, so I didn't really look to see who made the games I bought.  I just knew that Zelda=Nintendo )

I don't beleive it's a rumor, since Game Informer Online has sources that
confirm that this deal will be coming from noa. here's a link

Also PlanetGamecube has reported the samething, This leads to more
credentals that it's actually coming.
Please let there be an option to buy it seperately as well as packaged with
NGC.

sincerely,

Hi!

As you know, there are countless web sites on the Internet that post Nintendo news and information.  Many of these independent web sites take the liberty of posting news based on rumors, speculation, or assumptions--and that is just fine. We understand that Nintendo fans are eager for as much new information as possible!

However, as a publicly traded company in Japan, Nintendo has a responsibility to those who rely on us as a manufacturer (retailers, suppliers, employees, stockholders, etc.) to be the most accurate source of information on the latest Nintendo products.  Only when information is official can we comment on it.

Therefore, the information fans will see on our official web site will always be confirmed, reliable information from official Nintendo sources and press releases. Although officially confirmed information can still change from time to time (like product release dates), Nintendo's own web sites will be the most current official source for all Nintendo news and information.

On Nintendo.com, we also strive to provide as much information as possible on upcoming games and accessories that are made by other companies and licensed for use with our systems.   However, because these products are not produced or sold by Nintendo, we may not have all of the latest details. In these cases, we recommend that fans visit the web site for the actual company who produces the product in question, or contact them directly for the latest news.

Nintendo of America Inc.
R.M. Ricket

It seems Nintendo is denying it for now.

I hope they will let it be purchased seperately.

Nintendo is not denying it, this guy is saying that Nintendo cannot comment on anything that has not been officialy announced.

Hopefully it is true, it would mean that every Zelda game in existence(except the CD-I 3) is playable on the GC(with a little help of the Game Boy Player)!!

What you probably should have asked Nintendo is IF a second bonus disc is released would they please make sure to make it available to current Gamecube owners.  At least then you might get a "we value our loyal customers and hope to please them blah blah we'll take it into consideration yadda yadda" message.

One thing that is worth noting is that the Nintendo rep actually acknowledged the existance of the rumour.  Usually they give a "I don't know what you're talking about" bullsh!t message.  Just the fact that the guy commented directly on the rumour and seemingly knew what it was about suggests that it's probably legit.

This is the kind of thing that Nintendo should give away as part of their customer rewards program. Buy a gamecube get one free, buy a game and get some point to order one online. It will be easy enough to get from Best Buy or EB or Gamestop, since they will sell anything, but Nintendo needs to think about its current customers as well. Sure this will help sell cubes which is good for Nintendo, but what about the people that bought their stuff without any freebies?

Yeah I guess so, either way it's good that we'll have a good Zelda compliation.

I just hope they will have it for grabs for us who already own a GC.

Be intresting if anything will be upgraded, maybe SNES quality Zelda and Zelda II? and Improve Frame Rates for MM since at times it will go down to 15fps in the 64 incarnation.

Best Buy will most likely have it....

At my Best Buy the other day, they were selling the Rebel Strike bonus disk for $5, I decided, what the hell, I wont be able to get the game when it comes out, why not buy the bonus disc when I can?

So, I went up to checkout, and it came up as $0.01

To bad I couldnt go back and grab 99 more....

Best penny I ever spent, even better than the penny I spent on my Ocarina of Time player's guide, and the soundtrack for Crash Bandicoot 2 for GBA.

The five dollar price tag was to pre-order the game. (Boy that pre-order term is really stupid, I mean what's it mean? You order it before you order it?) It was a great deal though.

As for finding the Zelda bonus disk V.2 if it IS infact a pack in disk. Just do it ebay.

I'm actually starting to get pretty irritated with the new Zelda bonus disk. I'm extremely excited about it, yet there hasnt been any date or any concrete information. I know it's going to come on but when it's coming out is killing me!!

The solution is obvious:
- Buy the bundled Cube & Zelda Collection'
- Sell the brand-new Cube on ebay
