Title: What do you think this means? (Online speculation)
Post by: Round Eye on September 04, 2003, 01:08:34 PM
"Wage war against The Armada in the sequel to the smash hit. Play single-player missions or co-op multi-player with up to 4 players or 8 players online. With hundreds of hours of game-play, an ever-changing environment and fast-paced explosive action, Armada 2: Star Command will give you an adrenaline rush like nothing you've felt before."
Just checking the new realeses coming out on EB games when I came across this little tidbit about Armada 2. Notice the part where it says 4 players co-op or 8 players online.
Hmmm....
Thinking they just meant to say LAN, but one can hope.
BTW played the original on DC was'nt that great of game, could never figure out how to do it peacefully.

Armada 2 is also for Xbox and on EB's site they have the same description for both games. I figure it'll only be online on the Xbox and they were too lazy to change the description for the Gamecube version.

alright i have been around a long time, but what is the deal with nintendo not getting online games from 3rd party developers. what does nintendo lack, or what have tehy done that has caused this lack in 3rd party games. i understnad taht they themselves arent stressing online games. that explains why they dont make online games, but why dont the 3rd parties make the freaking games online for them! when i heard nintendo wasnt stressing online, i was like....thats ok, there will still be 3rd party games online....obviously i was wrong, and i think nintendo really dropped the ball on this one.

Well Nintendo gives absolutely zero incentive for developers to make online games. Aside from not making their own online games they don't promote the system's online capabilities and they outright bash online gaming every chance they get. As a result it's a huge risk to make an online game for the Gamecube because there's no safety net in case of failure and Nintendo has trained their fans somewhat to not even be interested in online gaming. Nintendo tells everyone that online gaming isn't profitable which of course then means that online gaming on the Gamecube certainly isn't profitable.
So essentially by telling like it is Nintendo has completely f*cked up any chance of third party online games besides PSO.
Plus if you think about if a company is having MS absorb the costs of making an online title for Xbox Live that same company isn't going to then make their OWN online service just for the Gamecube.

Isn't Armada made by Sega. If it is then its a possiblility. Sega already has servers set up for Gamecube use.
And yes I think I remember that also... I will go check the release page. Leading creadence to that is there is no mention of Armada's release on either page.
