Title: Why Nintendo?
Post by: Bishman on August 31, 2003, 05:52:58 AM
I am going to be so broke by Christmas. There is so many must own games this fall. I had the hard decision of choosing between F-Zero and SC II. I picked SC II. I will try to buy F-Zero when I have cash.

Here are games that I must buy.

F-Zero GX *
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes*
True Crime: Streets of L.A. *
Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike *
Dragon Ball Z Budokai
Viewtiful Joe *
XIII
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Need for Speed Underground
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Yu-Gi-Oh! Falsebound Kingdom (LOL, I've played the card game and it was ok. I might rent it first. Stop laughing!)
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! *

How can I buy all these games? I don't know. But I must have these games. Oh yeah, trying buying all these games while upgrading your computer.

Forgot to add Pikmin 2 and Mario Party 5 to my list.  Looks like I'm going to have to follow my own advice and drop a few

(off-topic: ty vroenis ^_^.  It's nice to see others trying out FMP.  If you really enjoy it the 2nd dvd is already out and the 3rd one comes out in a few days.)

sure i'll be getting all of those games, if they ever come out in australia.
one adavantage (sort-of) i suppose is that release dates get spread out - easier to manage financially.
(not in australia bill!  but i am going to get them as soon as they come out.  i think the second one is due in a couple of weeks.  i have the entire series on divx but am faithfully purchasing now that it's out in region 4.)

That's pretty funny considering Kirby's Air Ride got a higher score from Famitsu than F-Zero GX did...I really don't mind someone giving their opinion if they've actually played the game before...

"all on rails"? Huh? It's a racing game, not a shooter!

PIAC: Just to hype you up, Lucas Arts announced Sam & Max: Freelance Police for Spring 2004
Title: RE:Why Nintendo?
Post by: Hostile Creation on September 01, 2003, 12:08:43 PM
Games for me?

Kirby Air Ride
MK: DD
Killer 7
Maybe Prince of Persia, if Killer 7 gets low scores.

EGM gave PN 03 a very low score (primarily fours and threes, I think).  I'd reconsider it Mario, because though I don't trust EGM at all, it's pretty easy to say what a sucky game is.

Already got F-Zero.  It is fun.

actually i have played it because my father is japanese so we visit japan regulary and i visted a nintendo video game show. its just really average andn rails .get f zero
Title: RE:Why Nintendo?
Post by: Mario on September 03, 2003, 11:40:05 PM
Well Hyper gave it 80%, and ive heard good things about it from people. Plus i think it looks really cool. (PN03 that is)

And so what if you've played Kirby and didnt like it, doesnt mean everyone else wont like it. I really like Luigis Mansion, despite some people calling it crap. I still bought it and it turns out that i love it. Oh well.

I already have F-Zero, and I still intend to buy Kirby.  You may have played it, though you very well could be lying, but I don't trust anyone that can't type properly anyway.  So it's on my list, and I expect that it will be very good.

I'll let you know if I like it or not, how about?

Mario: I've only read the EGM article for P.N. 03, which made me decide not to get it.  Only reason it did that, though, was because it was only a vauge possibility anyway, and I was having trouble deciding whether to get it or not.  But whatever, it very well could be good.
Title: RE: Why Nintendo?
Post by: KDR_11k on September 05, 2003, 06:43:35 AM
P.N.03 is a fun shooter. It's not a game with an epic storyline, but it's got a good battle system. The controls are fluent, the graphics nice and the monotonous environments really aren't a problem. Heck, if you watched "The Cube" you don't care about diversified environments anyway!
Title: RE:Why Nintendo?
Post by: Bill Aurion on September 05, 2003, 06:47:25 AM
It's kind of funny how people complain about the similar environment in P.N.03 when Halo was notorious for the same thing...
Title: RE:Why Nintendo?
Post by: Hostile Creation on September 06, 2003, 04:24:31 AM
Hey, I hadn't really noticed that, but you're right.  It's extremely boring.  Heh, weird.

Y'know, I honestly think that the developers that made Halo included some sort of eye-drug (eye nicotine, if you will) that directly affects your brain and subconsciously compels you to play it more.  It is a good game, and it's fun and all, but it is far from being the best game ever, and I hardly think it's even worth buying a system for.  However, despite realizing this, I'm still inclined to play it as often as I can.  So that's it.  They have eye-drugs in Halo.

[edit]Uh, forgot: I'm talking about PN03, not Halo here [/edit]

Well, just finished it. Clocked 4 hours-something on easy difficulty. Remember, that's really easy, so you'll finish all levels on first try (as opposed to 5-10th) and often without losing a life. Once you finish you can start over with all your stuff but no points. So be sure to shop a lot before ending the game. Don't worry, your boss will tell you when you reach the last mission.

I finally found the story! It started in level 9 and the game ended a few missions later. They could have spread out the story a bit and go into more detail easily. The story turns were about 70% what I expected, but they give the whole thing a nice atmosphere not unlike what you feel at the end of "The Cube". Yes, I refer to that movie pretty often because it had the most atmosphere I ever saw in a movie.

The environments really don't get that repetitive. They of course repeat when you are in the same location and some room styles get reused (very few and always with different enemy spawns). Most levels have distinctive designs, though and the only similarity throughout the game is the color style. Mostly grey, sometimes a little brown in between, but all in all this just seems to serve the atmosphere.

What I didn't like was how easily bosses get killed with your specials. Heck, even the last one needed no more than 4 super attacks (though those 4 were all my energy could deliver). I hope this changes with the higher difficulties.
Also I think the game should keep track of highscores, not just give you a rank at the end of the game.

Hmmm... So you have a lot of games but not a lot of money? Just get those good grades, and if you want a job, give a whirl. But I must tell you, even with a job, you're hard pressed to buy all the games you want. I look at these wish lists and say "Dammnnn! You guys have a lot of time to kill!" I, on the other hand is a working stiff pushing 40 hours (apparently overtime is a sin). I (had to) took this semester off, but that's another story.

Anyway, here's my little list for the rest of 2003. And I do mean little.

Definate GCN games:
Viewtiful Joe
Metal Gear Solid:TTS
Mario Kart Double Dash!!

Maybe GCN Games
True Crime:Streets of LA
Prince of Persia:Sands of Time
XIII

Definate GBA games
Final Fantasy Tatics Advance
Sword of Mana
Super Mario Advance 4:Super Mario Bros. 3 (Damn Nintendo for making me buy this game again! And they know I will!)

Maybe GBA Games
Sonic Advance 2 (Yeah yeah, I've been holding out on this one)
Mario and Luigi (Still 2003 bound?)

There you have it. Now to squeeze in some F-Zero and SC2...

About Kirby's Air Ride, I heard from a gamer who I respect immensly, someone who loves challenging skill based games, that the game is really good. Not that anyone here would care about some guy who I know, but let me put it this way: I wasn't even mildly interested in the game, and now I am very interested. When a skilled gamer who you respect says good things about a game, it opens your eyes...

So yeah, too many games to buy. The gaming industry loves to take all my money. It's funny, too, because 99% of new games I have NO interest in, but when they release 10 games a week, 1% still translates into a ton!

dmhawkmoon, I wrote a review in the reader review section.  I'm a bit of a Kirby fan, so the review is very good toward it, but I too find Kirby to be a very good game, even better than I expected it to be when I bought it.  It's a ton of fun playing with friends especially.  Multiplayer is much more fun than F-Zero (dunno about Mario Kart, though City Trial is probably better than Battle from what I hear).  Anyway, maybe read my review.  Good game, I thought.
