Funny how Rest is a universal TM.

After a long day of Pokémon Go, the next step is Pokémon Sleep.

Pokémon Sleep is a new game app developed by Select Button, who previously released Magikarp Jump. Full details about the app and how it will use sleep to affect play were not disclosed, but the game is slated to release next year.

Alongside the app will be a new device developed by Nintendo. The Pokémon Go Plus+ will track sleep data in addition to having the functionality of the Pokémon Go Plus for Pokémon Go. To celebrate, sleeping Snorlax can now be caught in Pokémon Go.

Is this a late April Fools joke? ;)

More seriously, could this be a reinvention of that lost Wii bio-metrics peripheral?

The name of that thing "Pokemon Go Plus+" is so ridiculous.  I guess Nintendo gonna Nintendo, until they New Super Nintendo XL Plus+.

If this is marketed well, it could be huge. Gamifying a healthy sleep pattern is a really good idea in a world where sleep deprivation affects like 1 in 3 people. I suppose it's a bit iffy since smartphones definitely impact sleep habits, but incentivising people to put them away when they go to bed might be a stroke of genius.

I can already sleep without an app.

I can already sleep without an app.

Can you really, though?

I have a tendency to struggle with falling asleep if I'm aware of how important it is to get a good night sleep that particular night.  Gotta get up in the morning to catch a flight?  Going to run a 10K the next day?  Stayed up late going to a concert on a weeknight and need to get as much sleep as possible in the short time I have before getting up for work?  Instant insomnia.  I sleep well if everything is routine and there is no pressure to get some sleep.

So if I'm going to bed thinking that I need to sleep well tonight in order to catch some rare Pokémon then I'm screwed.  Going to have to pass for health reasons.
