Title: TALES OF SYMPHONIA SOLD GREAT FOR 1ST DAY SALES!!!

According to the initial sales from Japan, Tales of Symphonia, which launched today in Japan, sold a blazing 204,538 copies!

Namco's expectations were for Tales to sell 500,000 copies worldwide(same expectation with baten kaitos)and it looks like it might sell that much with in a week.

finally- hopefully this is not just translating into games sold- i hope this is also pushing gamecubes off the shelf in japan- it deserves to with all the critical praise it has recieved along with its stellar reviews- man but in one day over 200,000!!!! hopefully it doesnt stop here- it must keep selling- go namco

I doubt the 500,000 sales expectation number for Symphonia was worldwide... and in Japan games sales drop off A LOT after the first day...

This is great to hear.  I know a few ps2 boys around here pissed that it is going to GCN

Excellent!  Now all we have to do is wait here for 8 months.

By the way, that is a great number for a GC title on its first day...

That's first day sales? Jesus- that's almost twice what Super Mario Sunshine sold it's first day in Japan, right? Hopefully it'll encourage some more publishers to release their RPG's on the Cube.

I want to see how many cubes were sold during this time period.  

Also, the reason ToS is selling so well is because the series is incredibly popular in Japan, trailing only Dragon Warrior and FF.(Though I personally enjoy the Tales series much more than DW, and especially FF)

i had forgotten about the limited edition cube that was being released. that could be the reason for such high first day sales. anyone know how many of the limited cubes were made?

Nice start.  I want to see what it gets for the week.  ToDII for PS2 sold 400k in it's first week, if ToS is anywhere near that, WOWZERS!!

You people all seem very willing to beleive this but there is absolutely no proof whatsoever. He might have no idea at all what the actual sales were, so you might all be happy for nothing but bullshit.

How about 500 k!  If the game is as good as famitsu says it is, then it deserves to sell like hot cakes. Figures like this mean we can see more RPG love from namco, and maybe from other 3rd party developers that have been ignoring the gamecube potential.

Nice.

Just the other day I was playing the trailer, and my younger brother and his best friend came in (they both have PS2's and they are only into GTA and The Getaway and Games like that) and his best friend, who didn't have any knowledge of the game said the incredibly ignorant response he did which was:

"wow, that looks really good, too bad Gamecube doesn't get good games like this"

I just laughed and left the room.

In the Nintendophiles website they say GBA  game Tales of Phantasia sold 52,50 units http://www.n-philes.com/php/epypkfeyykfvykylppz.php. Seems like Namco is banking on Nintendo systems in general!

i think www.the-magicbox.com has the official numbers for the first day sales- the charts will be out next friday showing how much it sold in the week- i guess we will wait till then- hopefully the sales keep going

Hey, well who wants to wait till the second day of release, when you could line up at 4:30 AM and get a copy on launch day!

Great sales, anyway.
