The Japanese My Nintendo shop has added a new item which aims to widen the release of the Switch.

On their Japanese language Topics blog, Nintendo announced today that the cash store would begin selling a Switch for ¥24,980 (current Japanese Switch MSRP is ¥29,980) that would forego the dock, AC adapter, HDMI cable, and Joy-Con grip.

According to a translation of the blog entry, it is meant to be used as a second Switch.

This still sounds a little expensive. What is the individual cost in yen of the dock kit and the grip when they're sold separately?

Why not include the AC adapter?  That seems odd to me, but I guess if they did it with the 3DS then why not.

I think Nintendo's aim for this is more 'replacement part'  and kids don't want to share rather than Switch basic edition

The Joy-Con Grip goes for 2480 yen, AC Adaptor for 2980 yen and a set that contains the Dock, AC Adaptor and a HDMI cable for 8980 yen.

Thanks mate. With that in mind, this doesn't sound like a very good value.

Why not include the AC adapter?
I think they figure people will just share the one adapter (and dock) from their first Switch in the household.

It’s about $45 cheaper. An AC adapter is $30. Even if Nintendo expects people to share a charger, battery life is relatively low and charge time is high. Just buy the standard Switch set then sell the dock for $45. Nintendo has been really shiesty with pricing this generation. This is bad deal because math.
