Hehe, the infamous "Strawberry Shortcake" comic. I'm sure you're well aware of the popular PC game American McGee's Alice, a demented interpretation of the classic story. When PA learned this American McGee was hard at work on another twisted vision, this one based on the Wizard of Oz, they spoofed it with a macabre Strawberry Shortcake comic. Well, apparently American Greetings (that's right, the card company) owns the rights to Strawberry Shortcake and ordered Gabe and Tycho to take down their comic. They both talked about it a bit and provided the email adress of the lady who had told them to remove the comic. Of course American Greetings was flooded with mail and a topic sprang up on Slashdot. Someone there proposed a sort of boycott- don't buy any American Greetings cards when celebrating Mother's Day. I'm not sure if this boycott was to blame, but American Greetings' earnings for that quarter went down some 56%. Do not mess with the geek powerhouses that are PA and Slashdot lest you feel their wrath.
The comic was actually pretty funny, with a "Great" picture of Strawberry Shortcake.

I wonder who owns the copyright for Rainbow Bright now... I was planning on "updating" it... but with my schedule, it might take four MORE years for me to get started on it. The Strawberry Shortcake comic rocked ass.

yeah american greetings case was that since penny arcade was parodying american mcgee and not strawberry shortcake that they were infringing. Now if i were their lwyer i would say its is possible to parody two things at the same time.

Hmm i was pondering before about a Penny Arcade TV show. Is it possible for their humor to last a whole 30 minutes? If it could then it would be a very entertaining show.

Maybe the show would turn out to be something like Seinfeld.

Yeah, well, American Greetings got what they deserved.
