Post by: Ghost Rider on August 01, 2003, 03:28:53 PM
just read on IGN that if you preorder Rebel Strike you get a bonus disc with the Hoth level, a level from "Gladiator" and the entire 1982 Star Wars Arcade game. sounds nice

I just saw a commercial for Rebel Strike...wow that's early!
The entire 1982 arcade game!!! OMG THIS IS SO AWESOME! that game was amazing in the arcade! it's my friend's favorite arcade game of alltime, we got to play it at a (classic arcade games only) arcade like 5 years ago, he was glued to it hehe.
I bet my friend will buy a gamecube based on this alone lol p.s. great find man

Though not as good as the WW preorder deal, this is something I am going to have to do.

Just this? Nintendo is holding out on us.... They could give us a MK Double Dash Demo and a 1080 Demo there too..

Nintendo isnt holding out on us. It's a Lucasarts disc, not a nintendo disc.
I think the bonus is great, but why a Rouge Leader demo? The game is over a year old! Maybe its for the new co-op

Its nice to see Nintendo giving out free bonusses for preordering games. Now just give me Majoras' Mask with the next zelda and Super Mario 64 with mario 128 and I will be set.

incidentally i had that same idea DRJ and i voiced it months ago on this forum only to have people tell me it's stupid and they wouldn't be interested...

Man, I sent this news bit into PGC like 4 or 5 hours ago at least, and they still not put it on the main page. IGN has since updated with news that it will come one month before the game is released. Once I saw this disc offer, I preordered right away.

I'll preorder it when I go pick up SCII and F-Zero- that's about a month before Rebel Strike comes out. Initially I thought you'd get the disc when you got the game, which made me wonder why they'd give you a demo of a game you just picked up- very odd.

Something tells me this was Factor5's idea (obviously approved by LucasArts). Which begs a question I have, did LucasArts own the license to Star Wars games even as far back as '82?

It would have been nice to get the N64 Rogue Squadron. Imagine getting the whole RS series in one package, but I guess LucasArts wants to promote Gladius which I guess is pretty smart.

LucasArts has been around a lot longer than a lot of people think. Ever since the creation of videogames, LucasArts has been around almost as long to bring us our Star Wars entertainment
(Just wanted to throw in something: Who could forget LucasArts' Maniac Mansion?)

Even if LucasArts wasn't around back then, George Lucas would still have owned the rights and since pass them on to LucasArts. Funny thing is, before Star Wars was released Lucas asked 20th Centruy Fox for full control over licensing. Since Fox didn't think Star Wars would be a hit anyway, and that licensing wasn't very big back then, they give him the rights to licensing for free. Fox is stupid.

He actually reduced his fee for more licensing rights. He knew he had something, I suppose.

it's sad that maniac mansion was lucasarts best game until this generation of consoles started.

Hey, wait a second. I love the Escape from Monkey Island series. Though besides that there really was nothing special from them, imo.

The gamble paid off- I bet he makes most of his money on licensing.

Hasbro has paid Lucas $470 Million so far for licensing rights to make toys for Star Wars.

LucasArts PC adventure games were always tops. None of that "let's try to kill the player" (a couple rare exceptions) or "let's make it impossible to continue" :uote:: challenges to keep you from enjoying the story and humor.

I never liked that game. Never. Judging from the leaked beta I've been playing, Jedi Academy is clearly the best. Though, that was made by Raven, and not Lucas Arts...

LucasArts is the publisher, they have the rights to all Star Wars games. Raven is the developer, like the Jedi Knight games.

Matrix: And Bioware made KOTOR, and Factor 5 made Rogue Squadron- LucasArts fields a lot of it's titles out to other developers.

I don't think Lucas remembers what Star Wars is supposed to be like.
These days he's surrounded by Hasbro action figures and cash.

Kinda funny how the only two Star Wars movies Lucas didn't direct, Empire and Jedi, are the ones that fans tend to like the most.

He should definitely just stick to screenwriting. I hope to God that he doesn't direct the next Indiana Jones movie. It would be a shame to see another Phantom Menace disaster.

Lucas is not directing the next Indy movie. Speilberg is, but then Connery let out be mistake that Speilberg may NOT be directing, but then that would be insane. The Rebel Strike bonus disck is TONS better than the Zelda disc! You know that other Star Wars arcade game I'd like on it? The SEGA one! That was tops! You actually had a lighsabre duel with Vader! Kick ass!

Both the sega ones. I managed to clock the first Sega one with only one credit. Blew away the top score by an entire order.
But personally I am not as excited by this bonus disc if you can call it one. It feels more like a demo disk to me. Whether I get it or not is of no consquence.
but if it included one of the sega games or both yeah, i would be on board.

i'm getting it! Of course, if Sega made another Star Wars game, then perhaps they might include their Star Wars games, but alas.......... Sure, they could put every single old SW game on the disc, but then it's just a BONUS disc, and not a 'LucasArts Retro Collection' disc. So live with it, and bloody hell, pre-order Rebel Strike!
Title: RE:bonus disc with preorder of rebel strike
Post by: joeamis on August 04, 2003, 10:41:51 AM
i don't think they would be willing to shell out a large sum of money to sega to include their games on a bonus disk i mean paying for the atari 1982 game is different, it's more than 10 years older and it's atari, not sega

Wow! This just in everyone! IGN has reported that the Rebel Strike bonus disc will not only include the orignal Star Wars arcade game, demos and videos, but also:
The Empire Strikes Back arcade game!

You're both slightly mistaken. Ign reported those extras (like Empire Strikes Back arcade game) will be on the main game disc, not the bonus disc that's already going out.

I'm actually pretty pissed off that the original arcade game is on the Rebel Strike disc. I mean that's the f*cking reason I even pre-ordered the damn game. With the demo on the Mario Kart bonus disc there really was no point in pre-ordering the game anymore. Sure it's probably going to be a great game but I usually prefer to wait for reviews and I could have bought the game at a later date which is what I original planned on doing.
Well at least the pre-order disc will likely become a collector's item of sort and it is nice for people that didn't pre-order to get to play the arcade game. I just wish I knew about it beforehand since the hassle of finding a store in Canada that acknowledged the pre-order deal wasn't really worth it now.

That leaves the concept art gallery to be the only thing remaining on the RS bonus disc.
