Title: Pro Logic II on an Audigy, or some semblance thereof?
Post by: RichardAshkenazi on July 31, 2003, 06:27:03 PM
So I want to hook up my Gamecube to my PC. I have a SoundBlaster Audigy (no drive addition or anything). I use an Altec-Lansing analog 5.1 speaker set. So if I were to use an adaptor and plug the audio RCA plugs into the line-in jack, is there a way I can get that sound card to do Pro Logic II? Is there a workaround, or another option of some kind? And what's the story with that CMSS thing it does that seems almost the same, but not? WHAT DO I DO?? I'M LOST AND ALONE!!!
...Thanks.

Last time I checked, Audigy doesn't support Pro Logic II at all. You're outta luck.

Last I heard, Prologic II was disabled on Audigy cards, as it was causing problems. I get Prologic II on my SB Live! though.
CMSS is the same thing as Prologic. You will get surround sound, but the back channels won't be seperate. That MIGHT be fixed with newer drivers though, I am not really sure.

Okay then. So as far as you know, does CMSS use any Pro Logic encoding in the audio signal when in determines what's in the rear channel, or does it treat it like any other stereo signal?

AFAIK, CMSS == Prologic.
The rear channel is a blending of the left/right rear audio. When things are behind you, you can hear them back there, but you can't seperate the left and right.
Just buy the adaptor, plug it in, and see for yourself. The adaptor costs about $5 CAD. It's what provides the audio for my GameCube, and I am quite satisfied with it. Given that I have a Soundblaster Live!, I have full 4.1 audio.

Silly Creative Labs. Seriously.
I'll do that. Find one of those clay pots in Zelda and try to throw it behind the camera or something.

Rogue Leader has a sound test that has a TIE fighter making a full circle around your head. That's about the best prologic test I know of.

What if i own a different sound card? Is there a software that can decode the line-in signals into a 5.1 speaker set ?
