Life on the farm will be a little bit more portable.
The planned Wii U version of Stardew Valley has been moved to the Nintendo Switch.
In a post on the game's blog, the developer confirmed the release dates for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions while noting "Looking at Wii U and the current gaming landscape, we made the difficult choice to shift our development efforts to creating a version for Nintendo Switch."
The Wii U version was announced on the first day of E3 this year.
Don't worry, at least we still have Project: Giant Robot to look forward to.
The game had to have been almost done, and there are none of the costs involved with shipping a physical version of the game, so there was really no reason to not go ahead and release the Wii U version. It's basically a big FU from the developer to Wii U owners.
I'd rather have the greater portability of the Switch, but to announce this so close to when the launch was supposed to be with people already excited for he Wii U version is just lousy.
the game was made using C# and the XNA framework. Dev used Visual Studio 2010 as his IDE. All the graphics are made in Paint .NET, and the music/sfx are made in Propellerhead Reason.
I'm going to get a switch, but I wonder what will happen with Yooka Laylee.
