Title: Kazaa Sharing Help
Post by: Lao-tzu on July 26, 2003, 09:27:54 AM
K, I've tried all sorts of big forums for computer help, but no one has found answers.  I think this is because, well, kids use Kazaa, and adults who go to Windows whatever Help forums do not.

So, here I am... asking you all..

I'm trying to share a file of my own.  (and yes, it REALLY is my own) It's a movie that I made.  It's a windows Media Player file, and I put it in my Shared Folder.

I changed the filename, the title, the artist, the description and the keywords.

However, when people search for it, they cna't find it.

What am I missing??  No one can see my movie.

(Also, the file works fine, on my computer and on other computers.  Once the file is found (searching my user) it downloads fine.... I just need to be able to search for it)

If your friends are trying to download the movie they most likely will never find it. I know virtually nothing about computers, but I think it's because Kazaa has a ton of different servers, and your movie is on a different one than the server your friend is searching on. So the file itself works, and people on the same server as your movie can search for it, but others won't be able to.

yeah, a mate of mine in the UK and i tried this, and determined that kazaa uses servers, have you ever connected to it once and found your with like 20 people online? disconnect and reconnect only to find your now on a server with 1000+ people?

You can use KaZaA to share legitimate files??? I thought it was just for sharing pron and bootleg movies and songs.

Seriously tho, are you sharing any files? You have to select the option to enable share (or rather unselct the option to disable sharing). At the bottom right corner or KaZaA it should say "Sharing x files" or "Not sharing any files"

kazaa technically does have servers, but they don't use them how napster did. They use them to mostly add in some structure to the network and to occasionally add in some new adds and pay content. However they rarely cache the files (and even then, they don't cache illegal files). The reason they will never find it is most of the files you find on kazaa are the ones most downloaded, or are closer to the servers. Thus, the server will send you to that grouping of files, and so forth. If you were to get a bunch of random people to download it (read 15,000) you would start to find it.
