Title: Vintage Review: Metroid Prime
Post by: Jonnyboy117 on July 23, 2016, 10:50:37 AM

Journey back with us and experience Metroid Prime for the first time.

Journey back with us to a time before YouTube and before video reviews were really a thing, as we dig classic reviews out of our archives and polish them up for a new generation of gamers. These aren't modern reviews of retro games. These are true, period perspectives. You'll find no nostalgia goggles here.

The original review from 2002 can be found here, and our new video can be viewed below.

Only a 9.5? This reviewer won't go far.

I would've given a 8/8 to much water, but meh.

Great idea and execution.  The review still holds up well, and I've forgotten that before this game, Samus was never a tank.

Where I would have likely composed something hailing Prime as one of the greatest games of all time, Dr. Metts offers thoughtful critique into the series as a whole, as well as the nature of the character he loves so much. The movement aspect is definitely something I can relate towards, but seeing as Prime was one of my first Metroid titles, I was unable to identify Metts' criticism upon my first playthrough.

Still, Metroid Prime is just so damn good, isn't it...?

It's interesting to see mentions of glitches in the written review, as I don't recall ever experiencing anything of the such in the game myself, and I don't recall hearing talk about such issues either. That doesn't mean it didn't happen, as I didn't get the game until later so I may have just not seen such talk, and later versions of the game could have been fixed as suggested. Though I wonder if it had something to do with the disc or system used.

I miss Nintendo taking chances like this. I guess that's why Zelda is so refreshing.
