Title: Eternal darkness - stupid question

I am playing through Eternal darkness again, and for the life of me I cant remember how to operate the big telescope with the mirrors you have to adjust. I had no problem the first time around (but that was months ago), I have tried everthing.
Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe you're messing with it before you're supposed to. You can't do anything with it but waste time until very late in the game, as I remember...
