"After 43.2 million spams, and over 2.3 billion pop-up ads worldwide, someone buys an X-10 mini cam."

I always wondered if anyone would buy one of those...

You know what's interesting about PIAC starting this thread?

It's that PIAC is downloading all of the internet to his computer as we speak.
So that's a bit of new history right there:

PIAC - the only man alive to be able to download the entire internet to his computer.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
Best summary of his life EVAH!!! It should say 'every person in the world', though.

"2003 - After 43.2 million spams, and over 2.3 billion pop-up ads worldwide, someone buys an X-10 mini cam."

1969: ARPANET (precursor to internet) invented. (If anyone makes any overused Al Gore jokes they will be beaten unconscious with a 300 baud modem)

Al Gore invented everything, or at least he would like for you to think.  He didn't even know who Thomas Jefferson was when he saw a bust of him.  Very sad and he wanted to be my president?

Otherwise, quite humorous.

LMFAO!  It's almost as if my evil twin wrote that.  That is SO something that I would write.

This is the Internet. This is the only thing that is real. The rest... your wife... your children... all an illusion. When Al Gore created the Internet, it was to free us from these mortal shells that we have been trapped in for millenia. It is vital, imperative that you win the hearts and minds of everyone else on the Internet, else you may be ejected from Paradise, back into the grey prison that mankind constructed for itself so, so long ago.

Kudos to S-U-P-E-R for spelling grey properly.

I really hope that they change "Grey Fox"'s name back to how it was spelled in the original Metal Gear games when The Twin Snakes comes out.  Given that Silicon Knights is a Canadian developer, I suppose it's possible.  I wonder if Denis would listen to an insane ranting fan's request for something so trivial, yet (strangely) means a good deal to him.

ahahah illl always find soemthign on he subject

http://www.guam.net/home/wresch/stories/Misc.%20Authors/Grey_vsGray.htm

ive been lookign through the net and soem sites are rather confused. They are saying that some words are the US spellings and not the canadian or british versions. Well i'll say something some words like Grey/Gray are annomolies. It really depends on who taught you how to spell. in fact the pronuctiation of those two words are different. ey makes a softer shorter noise and ay makes a longer harder noise. There are people named Ray and Rey. I was readign an article and it was like only canadians use Storys/Storeys when reffering to the "levels" of a building when americans use floors. That is not true. I bet most people use both. Perhaps when your outside the bulding and are talking about its multi tiered number you would refer to its storys/storeys/stories(lol). When your inside you will prolly be like ok we'll take the elevator and/or stairs to reach the next floor or maybe youll say story.....whichever word pops in your head first lol.

there is a few definite dfferences...unlike the one listed above..and that is ofcoarse
honor/honour armor/armour
theater/theatre center/centre

even more confusing annomily(perhaps maybe annomoly is an anomolie)

"Grey/gray

From the OED "as the word is both etymologically and phonetically one, it is indespicable to treat its graphic forms as differing in signification." "

"Apple's low-cost computers for schools offers an affordable way to give kids training in software they will never use."

This one totally cracked me up.  I remember in elementary school I used to question us learning on Apples when everyone in business was using PCs and thus PC was the future.  My teacher essentially told me I was full of sh!t (with more PG language thankfully) and laughed it off.  WELL WHO'S LAUGHING NOW B!TCH!  It should be noted that this same teacher taught us that peanuts grew on trees which pissed me off so much I actually went to the library, looked up peanuts in the encyclopedia, and proved her wrong in front of the whole class.

"Ian, you sound like a very difficult student."

Oh yeah.  You didn't try any sh!t with me.  Once in elementary school a kid snitched on me for something I didn't do and the teacher made me write an essay about what I did wrong.  Naturally I pleaded innocent in my essay and sure enough got in more trouble.  My high school principal hated me because I treated him like an idiot but technically I never did anything wrong so he couldn't punish me or anything.  Any of my mature and intelligent teachers all thought I was great though.  This only really lasted in elementary and high school though.  Once I got to college I quickly learned that if I wanted to keep my grades up I had to shut up and pretend to blindly accept anything.

Oh and once in kindergarden some kid pissed me off so I pushed a wall of heavy wooden blocks on him.  That was really funny.

Oh and the teacher wasn't old either.  She was like in her thirties and was probably younger than my parents.

I could get away with murder in high school because the administration feared my mother and father.  I don't have time now to explain.

You better watch it. People I truely hate tend to die. It has already happened about 3 times. One drowned and another got cancer. I forgot whah happened to the last guy...

Anyway, that kid who stole my lunch was asking for it. He respected nothing. not the teachers, not the walls, not himself and especially not the flags out at Piha beach.

I had a CS teacher in my first year of University who I really didn't like.  She was a horrible teacher, rude to her students, and didn't even have a sufficient knowledge of the subject she was teaching.  (Introductory C++).  She gave me a C+ in that class, and the next year I found out she was dying of cancer.  I just kind of smirked.

I got an A+ the next year from a much better teacher in Advanced C++.

Ha!  Got a C+ in C++!!

But still, how can any of you guys even smirk if you hear someone you know is dying?

Actually, now that I think of it, there is a substitute that I guess I would care if she died.  She's about 300 years old anyway, she could even be dead already...oh well.

KnowsNothing, I am not much like the person in my avatar.  I really don't care about life and death.  To me, they are the same.  But when people die, it means they no longer have the ability to annoy me.

I guess.  But have you ever had anybody really close to you die?  One that never really annoyed you?  Or does everyone annoy you?

Sorry if this is too personal.

I have had 2 people really close to me die.  I am not saying much more than that.  Suffice to say, that might very well be the reason that I no longer feel strongly one way or the other about death.

Sorry.  I meant to say that you didn't have to reply, but I forgot.

If I by any chance made you relive some not so great memories, I apologize.  I was just curious as to why you feel the same about life and death.

Wow...I totally forgot this thread was about th history of the internet.  It's funny how most threads in General Chat go off into some wild tangent, and it's fun to see how the discussion actually formed.  Then again, this is "General Chat" so I guess that's what this section was meant to be.

I remember what happened to the thrid person. This chick really pissed me off really badly, I mean really personal and well she seems to now always have a broken bone somewhere. She was somewhat hot and I still somewhat still like her regardless, so I guess thats why she an'it dead yet.
