Title: A little serious X-box discussion... please.
Post by: enigma487 on July 18, 2003, 06:49:21 PM
alright. here's my situation: My brother and i each own GameCubes. roughly 30 games between the two of us. last summer i bought a PS2 (only 5 games). mostly bought it for DVD and FF-X. Now, through work, my brother and i have the opportunity to get a ton of games free. well, have to pay shipping, like 7 bucks each. here's the list
Fuzion Frenzy RalliSport Challenge Brute Force Halo Inside Pitch 2003 Kung Fu Chaos Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II Project Gotham Racing Tao Feng: Fist of the Lotus The Ultimate Halo Companion DVD SET Shenmue II Azurik: Rise of Perathia Blood Wake Nightcaster Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee NFL Fever 2002 Blinx MechAssault NBA Inside Drive 2003 NFL Fever 2003 Quantum Redshift Whacked Sneakers
it would come out to like the price of the X-box plus less than $175 for all of them. are any of these decent games? i can't seem to find any reviews that aren't entirely X-BOX biased. i know it's crazy cheap, and we will probably get the games anyway (we can sell them and at least double our money....) but would many of them be worth keeping? looking for honest opinions here, and I thank you for them. any X-Box bashing will be reported to moderators.

In my opinion, most of those aren't too good- obviously games like Halo, Mechassault, Shenmue II, and PSO are all great, but the rest I wouldn't pick up at full price. Since they are only $7, though, you could resell them like you said and make some money which you can spend on more good XBox games. I'd personally look for Panzer Dragoon Orta, Unreal Championship, Fable, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

For $7 pick em all up. I mean if you dont like them you can sell on ebay for 10-15 each easily enough.
Games I've played from your list
Halo (Excellent game, a must for for the XBox) Azurik (Complete garbage, Have it, beat it, was not impressed at all)
Thats about it from you list.
Like I said, for $7 its a no brainer.

I have a very high standard for games I own, meaning I pretty much only buy games I deem worthy of around a 9.0/10 or higher, and I'm very strict as you'll see if you read any of my reviews later this year when Gamers-Syndicate launches...Knowing that, here are the ones worthy of a place in my library.... Rallisport Challenge Halo Mechassault Mind you, those are only the ones I would pay for. Since you're getting these for almost free, here are the remaining ones I would actually play (but not buy). Brute Force Phantasy Star Online Episode I and II Project Gotham Racing
And then there are games that are just plain mediocre like Quantum Redshift and Blinx.....

What's the Halo DVD set? That sounds cool...
Even if you don't like 'em that much, seven bucks can't beat... you could pawn them or trade them for a profit, even.

Yep, for that price you've gotta catch them all!
I must warn you though, Azurik: Rise of Perathia is mega crap. MEGA.

Assuming these are new, legitimate copies, seven dollars isn't too bad. In addition to the titles Grey Ninja names, Project Gotham Racer is also another great game. i'd check the going prices on ebay for the others, because a lot of them can be founbd in various retailers for under $10.
But i'd definitely check and see if these are real copies or not. When i worked at Best Buy, i bought a PS from a guy who worked there. It was something like $130 for 30 games, a few controllers, and memory cards. Turns out most of the games were CDRs, although i still got it because it even with the CDRs it was still a solid deal.

you used to work at Best Buy aoi? i work there, and that is kinda how i'm getting the games. I just have to do some training stuff through microsoft, then order the games right from them.

Yeah i worked PC/HO mainly, and occasioanlly worked tech desk, warehouse, tv/video, and digital (which used to be cellular, WebTV, and satellite). That store sucks hard now; i don't think i could ever go back.
One thing i do miss about retail is the perks from reps, and special events. MS and Intel are really good at that. It's obviously legit, but again, check ebay. Launch games like Azurik, Nightcaster, and Blood Wake might not even be worth it. And you need Live! to even play PSO, so that's something to consider as well.

Halo Shenmue 2 Mech Assault RalliSport Challenge PSO Kung Fu Chaos has a few moments of good fun in it. And Quantum Redshift, if only for the comparison that can be made ot F-Zero when it comes out.
The rest are crap, so don't bother.

Store 410 in Dearborn, Michigan. i think that was back in 1998. Luckily, i've purged much of those experiences from memory.

I don't like the new Unreal Tournament. I prefer the 2000, game of the year edition for computer. I played the new one for Xbox, and it really annoyed me (lightning sniper rifle? Please. . .).
I played Halo again today. It's fun. But I hate to play video games with anyone other than my good friends. Everyone else? God. . . how can they stand themselves?
You guys are cool, though. I imagine you'd play like my friends do.

Halo is fun but I wish they implemented bots in that game(my friend with xbox has only 2 controllers) and I wished they had more variety of weps. BTW how did they immagine to make a lightning sniper rifle it doesnt sound right.

It's just a sniper rifle that shoots a thing that looks like lightning. It's EXTREMELY cheap, though, and people will run around with it headshotting people. Even after they slowed down it's rate of fire it's still really cheap.
Halo's singleplayer was magnificent, but I don't know why anybody would rave over the multiplayer. Like it's been said, there's no bots, weapon variety is deplorable, you can only carry two weapons (screw realism, it's not FUN), the arenas are tiny, there's like 2 different modes, and that whole timed respawn- I've played with a guy in CTF who killed me so much he could get my flag and back to his base ebfore I even respawned. I seriously hope Halo 2 or Halo for the PC fixes these problems.

Bungie (sp?) should learn most time realism isnt fun, and that damn lightning sniper rifle is cheapness to the max.

Most of those are very good games.
RalliSport Challenge: I have, still very fun Brute Force: Don't waste your money on buying it. I beat it in 3 days off of a rental Halo: What more needs to be said, except the fact that it's Halo? Inside Pitch 2003: While rated the worst baseball game on Xbox, it's still very fun if you have Xbox Live Project Gotham Racing: Very fun racer. By far the best on Xbox so far MechAssault: Decent game, but over hyped. NFL Fever 2003: Decent football game. But NFL 2k3 is better, and with Fever 2004 and ESPN NFL Football coming out soon, it's not worth gettin' Fever 2003.

I must disagree with you on this one. I'm a big time racing fan & I absolutely hated this game. It stunk on Dreamcast (Metropolis Street Racer) and it wasn't much better on Xbox. I do know a lot of people love it (Especially on the TeamXbox forums). This is a love it or hate it game though. The graphics are okay and the variety in the races is very good. My problem was the racing itself... I found it to be a little less than mediocre. Rallisport Challenge & Sega GT are both much better in my opinion.
