At least 36 hours worth

A bug in the level creator for Super Mario Maker has necessitated a day and a half of online downtime.

Nintendo has sent notices on their various websites advising that an unspecified bug in the "Create" mode has necessitated a stop on all online services. The maintenance is currently slated to end at 8 p.m. Eastern tomorrow night (1 a.m. GMT on Friday morning).

A mandatory software update will be available for the game upon completion of the maintenance.

That sounds like a big bug. I'm curious as to what it is.

I'd guess code injection, i.e. a hacker could take the whole server over.

That is a messed up bug that deserved emergency stomping.

Shame about the video being blocked, but Nintendo is fond of the heavy hand.

"Find a bug for us and we'll get huffy about your private youtube video!"  Apparently Nintendo is still run by a rude 80 year old man.

So if I ever find a major bug like this I should just ignore it or actively exploit it.  Nintendo clearly does not want you to make a good effort to inform them without revealing the bug to the whole world.

To Nintendo's credit, a representative thanked the user. It's just that the Youtube block seems to be burying the evidence. Also, you can make private and unlisted Youtube videos.

Yeah, that's pretty crazy. At least it was fixed quickly before it got out of hand.
