Nintendo has announced the next Splatfest for North America, and the first post 2.2 competition will feature an important scoring change.

The competition will take place beginning at roughly 11:57 p.m. Eastern time on October 30 and cover all of Hallowe'en before ending at just after midnight Eastern on November 1. The teams will consist of pirates (Callie) against ninjas (Marie).

With this, the first announced Splatfest since this week's 2.2 update, comes a new scoring system. The win percentage multiplier will be 6x, setting a total pool of 700 points for the battle.

Thinking on it, it's possible ninjas will get the popular vote despite the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise. Then again, I am a child of the '90s that caught the tail end of the international influence of an economically-strong Japan.


Any way, with the bump of wins going from 4x to 6x, I do wonder why they have the popular vote at all.

I mentioned this in the other article, but I think Splatfests need a change of pace because they're running the risk of getting really stale. You can't have the same maps all 24 hours, not with the expanded number of them in the game.

So now that the Win multiplyer is x6, what exactly is the point of the popularity score? No matter what the differential, it's almost guaranteed now that the team that wins the "Games Won" category will win the overall Splatfest.

At this point, the popular vote is more to determine why one team is in civil wars all the time if it comes to it.
