Title: Super Mario Maker Will Not Have YouTube Support
Post by: Shaymin on June 18, 2015, 08:16:00 AM

The developers want players to experience the levels by playing them.

Nintendo has confirmed that YouTube uploading of level creations and replays will not be present in the shipping Super Mario Maker.

Super Mario Maker producer Takashi Tezuka confirmed the move in an interview with Game Informer. When asked why the feature would not be present, Tezuka said "We thought about having YouTube uploading, but it’s not in our game. The reason for that is other than just watching movies of courses, we’d rather players play them and experience them in that way."

Super Smash Bros for Wii U had uploading of replays announced for an upcoming update on Sunday.

Nintendo, EVERY game in the entire world has "YouTube support" in that someone can capture a video and upload it.  This seems like silly old man stuff from people that don't understand modern technology.

The logic is flawed anyway.  If people can see the levels ahead of time they might think "Hey that level that guy made looks like fun.  I should download it to play myself."  If anything a game like this seems like the exact sort of title to have a YouTube feature.

People will just upload them in a different way anyways.

Seems like a misstep to me.  Mario marker seems more appealing to me the more they show it, it's a game that has value by seeing more of the zany things you can do with it.  Why not enable to free word of mouth through youtube views, it's basically people advertising the game for you.

Well, if "watching the game" isn't very fun, THEN I GUESS USING THE NINTENDO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS TO PIMP MARIO MAKER WAS FUCKING POINTLESS, WASN'T IT?  ::) This sounds alarmingly similar to their bullshit excuse why they weren't going to have a story mode in Smash Bros. U ("Because everyone just went to Youtube to watch the cutscenes."). Nintendo, people are going to be recording & uploading Mario Maker Stages to online video services whether you like it or not. You can either get with the internet for once and let other people entice new players by showing off their latest creations, or you can waste countless time & money chasing people off Youtube with Copyright claims.

I'm sure Nintendo will change their mind once they see the flood of auto-play stages cluttering up the easy stages.

I'm willing to bet eshop $ that a year from release, there'll be a patch that adds youtube upload functionality.

Most likely, it's a feature they're considering, and didn't have time to include at release.

I wouldn't take that bet. Nintendo just announced YouTube support for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. That said, we're like two steps behind the point where Nintendo realizes, "Wait, why are we doing this again?" then changes its mind.

I don't personally care about this, I would never upload videos or watch them.
