Metroid: Zero Mission Coming to Wii U in Europe This Week

Metroid: Zero Mission is coming out on Wii U in Europe this week alongside the Wii version of Punch-Out!! and the long-awaited release of the indie game The Fall Episode 1. Punch-Out!! will be €19.99/£17.99, The Fall launches at €9.99/£6.99, and Metroid: Zero Mission on the GBA Virtual Console will be €6.99/£6.29.

On the 3DS end, the Sega 3D Classics line kicks it into high gear with the remake of Outrun (€4.99/£4.49), and in celebration the series one releases with the exception of Sonic the Hedgehog will all be 50% off from March 12 to 19.

Our Take: “Europe's really lucky this week, especially with The Fall coming out. And if that 3D Classics sale crosses the ocean I'm buying most of them.” - Donald Theriault

"I will do terrible things to play Zero Mission on my TV. I won't, however, do the logical thing and hook up GameCube with Game Boy Player because I don't know, that seems hard and save states are cool." - Neal Ronaghan

Cube Creator 3D Enters Nintendo Certification Process

Big John Games tweeted on Friday that Cube Creator 3D has been submitted to Nintendo for lotcheck, one of the last steps before a release date can be set. Provided there's no issues with the submission, the Minecraft-inspired 3DS building game should have a release date soon. Both a list released during the Game Developer's Conference and the game's page on Nintendo's North American website show a release in the second quarter.

You can check out the demo of Cube Creator 3D on the 3DS eShop right now if you're curious.

Freedom Planet Announced for Wii U

Galaxy Trail Games revealed that their Kickstarted platformer Freedom Planet will be coming to the Wii U. The game takes many cues from the Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog games with its sense of speed and animal characters. The game's launch trailer from 2014 also promotes the ability to turn off cut scenes if you just want to get to the action. No release date has been announced for the Wii U version of what Galaxy Trail calls a “Sonic successor.”

Our Take: “I'm intrigued by how it looks and plays, but I hope to never use the cut scene kill switch.” - Donald Theriault

"If it errs on the side of 'Sonic 2' then I'm on board." - Neal Ronaghan

Nintendo of America Store Adds New 3DS XL Charging Cradles

It didn't take long for Nintendo of America to start selling the specially designed charge cradle for the New 3DS XL. The unit is now available in Nintendo's online store at a list price of $9 (plus shipping) – a full $10 less than the cost of the same cradle for the 3DS XL.

Still no word on if the small version of the New 3DS will be sold anywhere in America.

Speaking as someone who paid a significant amount of money to import a New 3DS XL charging cradle from Japan, all I can say is, what took you so long, Nintendo?

as somebody who was an empty pocket away from backing Freedom planet since I had played the builds of it that were submitted to the Sonic Hacking Contest held by Sonic Retro, let me say that you should be VERY excited for Freedom Planet. like... you should be Shovel Knight excited.

Freedom Planet is to the Genesis and Sega Saturn as Shovel Knight is to the NES. it's not just sonic-esque with the slopey terrain and fast speed; Freedom Planet has the DNA of games like Rocket Knight Adventures/Sparkster, Mega Man X, Ristar, Gunstar Heroes/Dynamite Headdy in some of the boss design... and yes, even a story line that's sort-of a tribute to Sonic Adventure's with a multi-character campaign that's fully voice acted, and has some pretty admirable voice work for an indie title.

I implore you, staff and readers of the NWR Forum; Get hype. Freedom Planet is the real deal.

What does the charging cradle do differently than the standard charger?  Am I missing something?  I just don't get when the point of it is.

Does Cube Creator 3D have an online mode? It wouldn't be a good Minecraft clone without one.

What does the charging cradle do differently than the standard charger?  Am I missing something?  I just don't get when the point of it is.
The point is "convenience." Some people are too lazy to plug in the charging cord and would rather just set the system down on a cradle and be done with it.

I just wanted to say that I think Freedom Planet is to the Genesis and Sega Saturn as Shovel Knight is to the NES. Thank you for your time.
