Nintendo of Europe has finally given up on an unfulfilled promise.

During a past Wii U-centric Nintendo Direct, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata assured European fans that Nintendo TVii was being looked at for the region. Two years later, Nintendo of Europe has decided to pull the plug.
A statement, which can found on various versions of their website, reads:
''At Nintendo of Europe, we continue to challenge ourselves to develop a range of entertaining experiences for all to enjoy. Due to the extremely complex nature of localising multiple television services across a diverse range of countries with varied licensing systems, regrettably we have taken the decision not to launch the Nintendo TVii service within the European region. Although on this occasion we did not anticipate such challenges, we will always strive to develop a range of entertaining experiences for all our users to enjoy.''
How Nintendo of Europe plans to fill the gap on Wii U remains to be seen, as not every country has access to the same streaming services. It also raises the question as to whether or not NoE is planning to remove the Nintendo TVii button from the HOME Menu, which has been there since day one.
It was a terrible failure since only works in the United States :/
TVii: Interesting idea, utter failure in practice [that] ended up being useless.
Easy way to fix this: get the BBC iPlayer working on Wii U. Who (in the UK) needs anything else?
Right now, it only exists on the...*shudder*....Wii Shop Channel.

seriously!? after all this time, Nintendo couldn't even be bothered to up-port the iBBC player or whatever it was called!?
I guess I shouldn't be surprised, seeing how they were also to lazy to update the Netflix player* to allow for profiles, regardless of the fact that the Wii U itself allows for separate accounts, but no matter which account you log into, it's all on the same profile for Netflix.
*and Netflix has to be the #1 non gaming app used on this system by a WIIIIIIIDE margin.
probably rivals even the most popular games in total lifetime usage.
