Nothing to see here. Just an elaborate hoax.

[Update] It looks like "leak" of Rayman's inclusion in future Smash Bros. DLC was nothing more than a well-crafted prank.

The guy behind the hoax posted a video on how he pulled it off.

[Original Story] Pictures and video footage uploaded today on NeoGAF indicate that Ubisoft character Rayman will be a playable fighter in upcoming DLC for both the Wii U and 3DS versions of Super Smash Bros.

The leaked media shows Rayman posing like he's ready to join the fray, and an uploaded video shows someone selecting the limbless hero on the game's character select screen.

It's worth noting that whoever is releasing this information also has Mewtwo, an already confirmed downloable character, on their select screen as well.

Nintendo has yet to confirm the inclusion of Rayman, so stay tuned to NWR, as we'll be sure to provide more information as soon as it becomes available.

There are already Rayman-related trophies in the game, so this wouldn't be a complete surprise.

Yes Please! Have a Smash Brothers for NEW 3DS and be a update that lets this happen, it has better servers and event mode and owners of the current 3DS game can update for free .


Back to Rayman, since Ubisoft has been so negative to nintendo lately this is a little shocking. I rather have Simon Belmont

Eh...I'm not buying that this is real, not until we see more than so-called "character select screen" footage, which is the easiest footage to fake since there are very few moving parts. It's just pretty hard to believe that Ubisoft would get Rayman in Smash after everything that's gone down between them and Nintendo over the past 2 years. It'd be a great pickup if it WAS real, though.

The moving background behind the characters on the character select screen of the Wii U version is particularly hard to fake because it moves from one character block to the next continuously. If this is a fake, whoever is responsible did a damn fine job with not only the moving background but also creating that Rayman model as it isn't sourced anywhere else from what I've read.

Well Rayman Origins sold the best on the Wii and even with all the bullshit that happened, Rayman Legends sold the best on the Wii U.  Ubisoft might have realized that Rayman fits the Nintendo audience better and wants to do all they can to get him more exposure to Nintendo fans in hopes that the next Rayman game can be a bigger hit with them. 

I mean Ubisoft did manage to get Rayman related trophies into the game so getting the main character included as DLC isn't that far of a stretch.

it's confirmed.  The footage was removed, meaning someone reported it or they got some kind of DMCA notice.

It's the yellow back ground wave that gets me. Really well done if fake.


The poster of the video took it down on his own. It could mean he did it to make people think it was removed forcefully by Nintendo. Or maybe Nintendo really did contact the guy to take it down himself because they are now wise to the fact that we know a video like this forced from YouTub basically confirms it as real.


Rayman is not in the league of Sonic, Pac or Mega Man. I say he doesn't deserve to be In the game but for you fans I'm happy for you.

You could also theoretically have a figure with transparent limbs, though that's way more work than Nintendo will ever put into an Amiibo.

I'm still not convinced that this is real, but it's certainly possible. Hell, just having another non-Mario series character would be great.

He never actually selected the character on the screen so it was clear there were shenanigans involved.

I think seeing Master Chief would be more believable than Rayman, Ubisoft has made it clear they see Wii U as a plague ridden carcass.

I actually knew it was a fake simply by where Mewtwo was placed. Along side the other Pokemon seems like the logical choice, until you consider Dark Pit, Lucina, and Dr. Mario aren't along side their franchise members. So, Mewtwo should be side along them instead.

I don't particularly like the idea of Rayman in Smash, even his trophies. Mostly since I don't think he's that big of star compared to the other 3rd parties. I will say though if he got in then I would certainly be happy for his fans.

I was fairly neutral from the get go but I was really leaning toward real. Especially with Rayman trophies already in Smash the possibility still seems there.

Now with that said the first limbless hero that gets in Smash better be Sukapon! If Sakurai continues then I suspect he will be our next retro WTF especially with almost zero content in him from this game. Melee had a trophy and Brawl had a sticker. I bet Sakurai is purposely keeping him as obscure as possible. If the mostly Western Duck Hunt Dog and Duck can get in I think the mostly Japanese Sukapon can make it next.

Just imagine Rayman's amiibo, if this had been legit... :-/ Not that it will ever happen anyway, given UbiSoft's complete abandonment of Nintendo.

Anyone can make a terribly fake memo list. It takes special skill to go full After Effects skill and attention to detail. Didn't even notice things like the background flames on the character select screen, even when he knew most of his work would get muddied by the intentional off-screen footage capture. Kudos for an excellent fake.
