Title: MegaMan Transmission
Post by: mjbd on June 30, 2003, 03:40:38 PM
Anyone else pick this one up yet?  I picked it up today.  Didnt realize it was already released, but I was at media-play, noticed it, and decided to buy.  I used to absolutely love mega-man on the NES.  I didnt pick up a SNES until 1996, only 6 months before I got my N64.  So I only have one MegaMan for my SNES, MegaMan X.  I waited for one to come to the N64.  I remember seeing MegaMan Legends on the PSX for the first time.    That was not MegaMan.  I had assumed MegaMan had took a jog away from the path once chosen, and would never return.  I beleive I was wrong.  When first seeing Mega-Man Transmission, I was excited, and unsure at the same time.  I was glad to see MegaMan in 2.5D, something more developers should consider.  So far, it feels pretty new, and pretty classic at the same time.  Visuals are cel shaded, which I think worked out pretty good.  Control and Sound are classic.  Overall, I am still very early into the game, but think its worth the time/cash for any fan of the NES MegaMans.

I like everything I heard and seen about the game like the graphics, gameplay, box art, etc. But do you ever get to see all the MMBN people like Lan and Mayl? I didn't buy Timesplitters 2 until I heard there were AI bots in multiplayer.

Uh, you play as Lan (controlling MegaMan.EXE), and your first mission is to rescue Roll for Mayl.  So yeah, I'd say that the MMBN regulars are all up in dis house, yo.

I snatched it up the moment I saw it at Wal-Mart.  It took me some time getting it figured out, since the whole chip thing is way different from the Mega Man I am familiar with, but it is pretty fresh.  I wish they hadn't given the old characters, especially the bosses, make-overs, though.  Some of them, like Star Man and Bright Man, look nothing at all like they used to.

My brother and I have been following the Mega Man series since ye olden days.  MMNT to me is the best MM game since the SNES era, gameplay wise.  And the music is "old school" great, more melodic (very important! but is melodic a real word?) than the PSX offerings.

It's beyond the typical "8 bosses" fare.

Gave it a rental. So far, its tough, I died at the first boss. Oh well, pretty cool, except the animation really sucks...and its a shame they didnt bother to use the voices from the show, leaving the original undubbed Japanese track.

Why do they do that?

There's a show??? Anyways, thanks for the info Mr. Senior Director guy. I'll be picking it up after I'm done with Lost Kingdoms II.

Bartman: Because there are quite a few anime fans out there who prefer undubbed, subtitled versions.

Gup: Yep, I caught one episode (jap) via eDonkey. Doesn't seem too good (more like the niveau of Pokemon or Sonic), though.

The battle network series have given a face lift to a lot of the old foes. I don't mind it that much.. My brother beat the game in two day... I'm still working on the first group of bosses after you Gutsman. (But I did manage to get the gutsman chip.)

But I have been taking time off and playing BN3:Blue.

I've followed the games since the NES days, too.  I spent my summers back in those days with Mega Man, and those memories stick with me fondly today.  I hated when the series went to the PlayStation, and the soundtracks spiralled right down the crapper on the BSX.  Sure, the audio quality was better, but they didn't have the catchy, up-beat, toe-tappin', whistle-along tunes I loved.  I can't help but whistle or hum along with Mega Man tunes.  I just love 'em.  Actually, come to think of it, I have been downloading Mega Man midis all the while, right now.  I used to have them, but I don't know where the disks went that had them.

I used to watch the television series, a bit.  It was okay.

Yea, MegaMan's on the NES were one of the best reasons to own it.  MegaMan Transmission's reveiw over at IGN was kinda weird, the only real complaint they had was the visuals, which I dont think are to bad.  Dont get me wrong, its not beutiful or anything, but I dont think they take anything away from the experience.  Its classic old school MegaMan with enough to keep things fresh.  Its also a bit cheaper to, only $39.  IMO, any MegaMan fan of the NEX days would be a fool to not give this one a shot.

I still think the TV show voices are much better than whats on now. Sure, Mega Man doesnt have his trademark pip-squeak voice, but it sounds a lot less annoying that whats in the game.

Then again, this was under development way before the translators could get a hold of 4 Kids' actors.

Oh well, its pretty much like in every Mega Man game before it, those bosses are a pain in the ass...fricken Mega Man still cant fricken duck...

as for the complaints, I think they're pretty straight foward, the animation IS tacky. Only half of MM's animations look good. Everything else looks either wonky or funky. Heck they have Lan walk around like an idiot NPC character (Oh wait...HE IS!) I miss where you could just skate around aimlessly for no reason at all in the GBA version. Oh, and the music is nice, if it were longer. They probably have like 30 seconds of music or something and it looks constantly. AGH! And IGN was right, why no GBA connectivity? Especially since you can jack into Lan's GCN in the GBA games. (Hint, hint, Capcom)
